I agree with Dunstall - I don't think we're best served by playing Jurrah as a key forward.

He'll be far more damaging playing on the third best defender.

Well in that I sort of agree..as in the very original post I had him forther out with Watts in the square. The opposition is forced to match up on us and where we are, not other way around remember. If on the day a particular setup match isnt working, we can swap them etc.

Im very keen they allow each other room and that theres no inclination form the club to 'pair' them

Possibly part of the problem we al lface in deciding this player or that as to role is that the classic line up has all but gone in the modern game. What you need is a forward unit.. who or watt is this or that all but becomes physcial sematics. Its the role given to each, not the locality.

You might be right, but Jurrah plays like a classic full forward. I know he's not kp in build, but is it a stretch to call him the second tall, especially the way the game is now played ?

Looked to me like the game against PA saw a different approach from the team towards our forward line. On several occasions those kicking into the forward 50 were looking for the likes of Jurrah and Petterd rather than constantly going for the Robbo option. Saw it sail over Robbos head a few times when he was giving average leads that would have been blindly honoured in weeks past. Good to see our mids kicking to the best option available.

Does this represent a changing of the guard or is Robbo merely playing his genuine role as a second option/ small forward?

the "x" is obviously undecided, for me. Some will put Davey there..I think thats a waste..but suffice to say there is something there to get really happy about.

Swap Jurrah and maric is you like, but in this day and age a forward line is really a total unit and must work as one.

The back line is sorting itself out.. Warnock, Cheney Garland, Rivers ,Grimes, Bennel etc etc..

The middle..well................ theres a draft coming

Point being..I think martin might be that missing link of a kpp CHF we've been after..and to think hes been there all along..lol.

Im not completely sold on Marric yet and also is Martin a good enough kick to be played as a FF? I think he plays the 2nd ruckman role very well

This would not be a permanaent forward set up with rotations going through with players like Jetta, Davey and possibly Green all playing time down there

I'm a strong believer that Bate will only get better as the side gets better, if fact he has the ability to be a 40 goal + forward as long as he is the third or fourth forward option. I still think Miller will slot into our forward line for that stronger body or maybe Martin is breing groomed for this role. Round 1 next year if all are fit we will line up like this

Martin can't play full forward until he learn how to kick.

Love his agility, love his ability, but he still looks like a basketballer to me.

Martin looks a bit "pigeon toed" when he runs. I wonder if this affects his kicking?

Not necessarily...you assume they are only forward players !! They arent...but have at times.

There are a number of players that could slot in or rest in the forward zone. It is my , and that of many other posters that some players remainon the field after stints through the midfield and rest up forward , only coming to the bench every other occasion as compared to when they are presently ( if that makes sense ..lol )

I think Maric will be just fine. Another preseason and form and he is something special. many have forgotten this already but some of us havent. Id like to see Jurrah and Maric in the same attacking half... it just might light up a few games

I still think Green is most dangerous as an inboard winger...reminds me a little of another classy Melbourne player in that role.

No matter what combo we come up with there are several players suddenly bumped... rotations are the key.. but its the manner we do it in that holds the key.

I've give you more than your fair share of crap, but when you write a serious post you have more idea than most on this site.

Three weeks ago the bolded part would have had you laughed at and ridiculed, some even called for Mahoney to be sacked mid-season, but you're right - our forward line functions well and has a number of options.

We can argue 2nd and 3rd talls, and all that, but it comes down to service, to delivery, and that's where the next line connects with the one before it. A good midfield makes a good forward line a great forward line.

He's taller than Micky O who played as the second tall for 10 years.

The way all the mids were trying to sit the ball on Jurrah's head reveals he can kick 4 goals as No.1 forward - FF.

Tony Shaw said he can't be KP - what [censored]. It's sub-conscious racism, and I don't admonish for it, but it is a shame when a 20 year old takes 4 contested marks in the worst team in the league and kicks 4 goals at FF and he is called a "third tall option."

And it's only because of the colour of his skin. And don't say it's because he's slight - he's 20. And don't say it's because his speed and agility equals a better fit for HFF, a FF that does what he does defensively and offensively is ridiculously valuable (look at Fev - at what he does and doesn't do).

Now opposition teams will put some work into him and come up with tactics to combat him. He seems to play from behind a bit and they'll focus on this. So he'll have a new challenge to overcome - but he looks like he's got the tools to work with.

Indigenous players seem to bring another element to Aussie rules that other players don't have. Maybe it is the 'natural instinct' element. The Warlpiri Wizard certainly has this in bucket loads.

Cannot wait until he's put on a little more muscle and been put through a pre-season. This kid is a star! He's story is legendary.
