Could he be playing with his brother next year? He couldn't possibly be happy at Richmond with the Wallat outburst and has already been dropped this year, handy player would like to see him in the red and blue next year. Thoughts.

Can't see them getting rid of him, despite the woes from the weekend. Most tigers supporters would hate to see him go I'd reckon.

Did ya see his clanger late in their Port Adelaid match?

Bottom line just needed to hold onto the ball with 90 seconds to go but had dellusions of grandeur and attempted to bomb into the forward line but kicked it out of bounds on the full.

Port kick it down the other end and get the match winner.

Mitch Morton is that Russel Robertson type of forward, not key position and not a runner and to be honest I think his types are a dime a dozen.

Sylvia could easily play Robbo's role if needed. Bate is essentially the same sort of player as Morton.

Still if the deal was right maybe......

Could help keep Cale at the Dees.....

Erratically talented but repeatedly selfish and not team orientated. Prone to brain fades. Not a patch on Cale.

No thanks. The price asked by the Tigers will be ridiculous. No bargain there.

I don't think he's "a dime a dozen" at all. He has the sort of forward nous and confidence which would just about bring Brad Miller to All-Australian.

Now, if he can keep having a shot instead of doing the team thing, it can't hurt our chances at all.

Do we really want or need him? Getting an average player from a bottom side isn't much of a coup, as Carltank found out with CJ.

Newton out, Morton in... then yes. But if he's just another forward to add to the list, then no.

I blame that mindset on Wallace. Shane Crawford was on the money -- the tiges are playing selfish survivalist football.

He made that clanger by taking a high risk option where the reward was personal glory.

It brilliantly displays the attitude of the young players at Punt road; they are playing to look good so they feel safe on the list, but they grossly misunderstand the qualities that make them 'look good'.

This is Wallace's fault.

With decent coaching he'd be a better player (and i think Bailey has shown he could do it)

Having said that, he's still no better than Bate. Forget him.

Agree 100%. Probably did sniff out any last hope Terry had of continuing, no matter how unlikely.

Having said that, he's had 5 years, along with some assistants. Failed dismally.

West Coast had many issues with Mitch Morton.

He is said to be very arrogant, if it was happening before he even went to the Tigers how is it Terry's fault?

what exactly was happening?

He may have been arrogant, but WC still didn't want to trade him and arrogance is not necessarily indicative of the way he plays the game.

Its Wallace's job as coach to instill his players with the right attitude and mindset. He has failed in this regard.

I was making more of a broad comment on the team as a whole, but Morton is an example of this.

What was happening was his poor attitude...

It was mentioned many time during the time of the trade and in the season leading up to it.

Supposedly Morton was seen as arrogant and didn't care about the team and his father often confronted John Worsfold about not giving his son enough game time.

Just saying that you can't completely blame Terry Wallace for Morton being a bit of a tool because it seems like he always has been.

Speaking of the teams mindset.... I also don't think you can blame Wallace.

That mindset was burned into Richmonds club culture long before Wallace came along.

That is a cop-out and if that view is taken then it is no surprise it continues to be a problem.

Morton might have a poor attitude, but i think its reflective of the coach. It is the coach's responsibility to eliminate attitudes like that and inspire players to make the correct decisions.

Good coaches do that.

Steve Johnson drastically changed his stripes, for one.

Mitch Morton is a known problem. Worsfold wouldn't play him because it was poisonous to the team. It's not Wallace's fault that Morton is a [censored], but it is his fault for bringing Morton to his club.

We're developing a young team and Bailey is is developing a strong culture of competitive team oriented football. IMO, we wouldn't touch him with a 10 foot pole.

How is that a cop out? Are you saying Neale Daniher was in essence a bad coach?

Because we didn't have a great culture at all, hence why every good year was followed up by a bad one.

The new Richmond coach won't get anywhere either, they need to stop the in house fighting, stop blaming everything on the coach and stop acting upon their fans and the media's opinions.

The Steve Johnson thing was different, they had a solid core of leaders who gave him a serve and he took it... They had done the same thing with Ablett as well. Both of those players put ego's aside and worked harder and got better.

Mitch Morton got given a serve by his coach and spat the dummy, just like he did at West Coast.

Richmond have a "blame everyone but the players" mentallity. They need Chris Newman, Richo, Cousins etc to be the ones to help the coach. Leadership groups have a big say these days and what they say directly would affect a player like Morton much more than a coach ever could.

To be torn down by a superior isn't something new.... To be torn down by his team mates who are on his level is entirely different.

Carp.

No coach wants to instil the malignant antics that bring players down in performance.

And as you pointed out with Steve Johnson. Its the player that changes personal selfishness not the coach.

Axis of Bob is correct about Morton.

I think so, yes. In some ways at least.

The new Richmond coach won't get anywhere either, they need to stop the in house fighting, stop blaming everything on the coach and stop acting upon their fans and the media's opinions.

Neither of these things were to do with ego, or more correctly, johnson's was not and ablett's problems were due to lack of ego.

Wallace, as coach, has decided Richmond will be one of the few clubs not to go down the Leading Teams path of peer evaluation & empowering the players.

I think he should have done better in this respect and it is my opinion that a big part of his job is to get this area right.

Not interested. He'll probably stay at Punt Rd and at the end of 2010 he'll put his hand up to be Richmond's uncontracted player to go to Gold Coast I reckon.

Posted
wonder when his contract is due, if its this year then possible PSD#1

That's what I was thinking. He's a goal kicker and anyone who can do that should be welcomed at this club. I don't know why everyone is singleing Morton out. Wallet has to be blamed he clearly wanted them to play the same football that got them in front in the first place instead of slowing it down. Why did those 3 Richmond players stay around the half back line when they needed to get back and help out Bowden who was always going to be beaten one on one on Tredrea. Anyone who continues to play McGuane deserves what he gets.

Thats got little to do why Morton has been culture problem at 2 clubs. The issues with Morton are not specific to Wallet. Wallet will be gone within a month and Morton will still be a [censored].

HAHAHA... too true. God he is an absolute spud!

So glad our young defenders can actually play footy.

Fair enough. Based on what evidence was he a culture problem at West Coast and again at Richmond?

Bearing in mind of course that he was 20 when he left West Coast, and has played 24 of the last 28 games with the tigers.

I've heard some rumours about him at West Coast, although they were more to do with alleged family interference, and nothing from his time at Richmond until today. And even that relates to a case of poor on-field judgment than a personal/cultural issue.
