Yellow number for the captain's guernsey?

The issue of designating a certain number to the captain has arisen before. Richmond do this with #17. My question is would it be good to give our captain a yellow number on their guernsey? Instead of designating a number, they would retain their original number and hence keep their own history but having the number in yellow would designate them in a similar vain to the yellow strip in the Tour de France - but in this case obviously as captain. I don't think yellow would look too bad on our guernsey and it is just one player. Your thoughts?

Please note it is late and I am tired (but can't sleep) so if you think this is a stupid idea go easy on me. :)

It's not a silly idea but I like having a skipper that makes his number memorable by his actions.

I was thinking of it more as symbolic way to signify the honour of the captaincy but you make a good point all the same - actions do speak louder than words (or in this case colours) :)

OOH !!!

we can have green numbers for the fastest player..... orange for anyone carrying an injury to make it easier for the opposition to line them up...pink for any show boat ponies... and maybe keep yellow for any player who habitually shirks ..

Our numbers are white....leave them that way.. Its a team..they all wear same jumper..with SAME numbers ( colour ) <_<

I voted and thought it was a silly gimmick.

I cant see the point of it. And Captain is honour for actions on the field not for any yellow running along his back!

True.

Fair point.

Doesn't really add anything unless yellow pages or orange or whoever wants to tip in some cash to change the colours.

If it is something that nobody beleives in then you're right it wouldn't have any meaning. The idea was more an altervative to giving the captain a certain number without changing the look of their guernsey too much but in itself (as you say) a yellow number doesn't have any real meaning.

Maybe instead of a yellow number we give the captain a jetpack.

I see where you are going with that one...

Going by this thread, it might make everyone cringe. However that is actually not too bad a marketing suggestion. Carlton had a light blue M&M guernsey and whilst that was hideous, light blue numbers on their normal guernsey wouldn't have been anywhere near as bad - the only question is would that be enough to get sponsors on board (I doubt it).

Did I miss something? I didnt even know this was on the cards. Whats the point?

Sounds like an excellent opportunity for the AFL to generate more merchandise revenue by selling 'new yellow number jumpers'

How about the AFL just work on getting clubs a fair stadium deal.

If we need to easily identify the captain we'd just have an armband like in soccer

Not necessary imo, and doesn't really bring anything to the table.

Thanks for bring up the idea though, keep them coming

It's a silly gimmick no doubt, but if I had to choose between the yellow number and the "designated captain's number" I'd choose the yellow number, purely because I hate what Richmond have done with #17.

I've said this before, but if I were a footy player I'd want to make my number my own, whatever it was. I'd keep the number I was given from the start, be it 1 or 47.

Yeah, it was always an "out there" suggestion I guess (at 3am lol) but nice to see that some posters can embrace open communication/ideas even though they disagree with them. :)

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
