Well its pretty true ..I mean after 45 years plus between drinks you have to have developed a realy good sense of humour... or.... well the humour works for me :)

I read that this morning, im not sure what it is about the articles but i really like them. Perhaps its because, for once, they are semi positive about the football club. His anicdotal stories are very amusing also.

I read it this morning, I am a big fan of Flanagan but this was his weakest piece so far, It really didn't say anything.

I don't see it as a joke being a Melbourne Football club supporter. I Hope he is writing for us next year though when the Big Old V8 is fired up & the Demon starts climbing up the ladder with purpose. This Year is like a holding pattern..

It's bang on true, when Ablett kicked that goal in 9 seconds i was laughing my head off! At some point you've just got to laugh because you can't always be angry, take the good when it comes and move on from the bad.

I thought it was a serious F up to leave Ablett on his own metres in the clear at the First Bounce myself. I didn't find it humorous at all.

We should have been 3 goals up in the first Q.

A simple, but great read.

Particularly enjoyed the mention of the fun that was had over the last couple of weeks. Yes, even though it didn't rain, the Adelaide game was in horrendous conditions at a horrible time, and we lost both games, but we made the best of it. Celebrated my head off when Dunny kicked the first goal, and everybody really fired up when we kicked a couple in the last, even after the first half! Watching Ablett streaming away from us towards goal (after having a perfect view of the whole centre circle crew fading to the right and Ablett dropping back to the left, you could see it before it happened. Sure enough, tap, run, goal. Crowd has a giggle and says oh well.

20 minutes later when we were pushing hard and just kept peppering it, when we hit the front, i wasn't the only person who heard "Blow the siren now!" while we were celebrating! Gotta love going to the game and soaking up the conversations around you - it's just part of the experience regardless of how the game was going, and I think that's what Flanagan was hinting at. The addition of "sucks" after each team's chant from the kids, the unbelievable optimism of the lady behind me (5 minutes into the last, she was still saying "if we can kick eight goals we're a real chance!"), the pure love for Robbo each time he got near the ball, the comments of "this one's a certainty" every time we have a shot on goal.. it's why you go when your team is down, for the little things.

Can't wait for a couple of weeks to be cheering Aussie on!

I read this morning, and my spine tingled... Why? Beacuse Martain Flanagan was sitting behind me at the Game just gone.

As so was the 'Drunk' and the two 'Young Blokes'. The guy making jokes, wasn't all that funny. He was 'hamming' it up for the kids. And sometimes I found him a bit too critical of Melbourne. But it was true, we did have fun at this game. I was there with my Partner, my 22mth old boy and my little sister cheering the red and blue on. Infact, my boy who was probably more enthralled with playing with his matchbox cars than the game. He interacted a bit with the 'Drunk' who was more than happy to help my son when he dropped one of his cars on the otherside of the seats.

Martin basically fitted in with the crowd, in fact I really didn't know it was him to start with but thought it was funny that this guy turned up with nothing else but a notepad in his hand.

He was asking the kids why it is that they barrack for Melbourne, what brings them to the games and what they look forward to in the future. I actually found it interesting in what the kids had to say. It made me think that if these kids can see it, I hope the rest of their generation can too.

Its funny, the 'Drunk' and I have actually spent time at a game before. He was the bloke I shared a celebratory hug with when we won against Brisbane last year.

Every time I go to a game, I make sure I pay my $2 and get my lucky dip in the 'First Goalkicker' draw. I haven't won it yet, but I will. But I do it more for the interaction with the ladies who organise it. They do a great job.

I don't get to go to many games, but at least I know that there is a community I belong to away from Gippsland. At my other home, the MCG.

Thats what I love about our club, and the game.

It's almost like this club is being totally re born. Right from the bottom up. You Don't hear all the Funny sarcasm from the MCC area even though there are some characters.

We do have Passionate supporters & we will celebrate....Brilliant Idea to engage Flanagan at the start of the year.

Go Demons.

Why do you go to the game when you know your going to get flogged?

Because you are passionate about your team.

Because you love your team.

Because you would do anything for your team.

I like Flanagan but I think he's running out of material.

Another good article by Flanagan, although this one was a little lite on for content. Amusing nevertheless.

Have to say I had a chuckle when Ablett raced out of the centre and kicked the first goal in 10 seconds. It was totally absurd.

My favourite Flanagan article was one earlier in the year.

Maverick Side of Melbourne.

Hey I have been following Melbourne forever - I've seen Barassi play - those were the days, we "missed the Boat" a few years ago - when we were right up there - we don't have that determination to win - you would never have seen Carlton or Essendon in their glory days lose by 5 points like we did!!

I'll always be loyal and true, I go to all the home games, what I'm saying is I'm sick of watching all the same old, same old, mistakes they make, like not manning up, playing around the edge of the ground, but I think we are on the improvement list, all the excuses all those years from Daniher (and he was also a good coach) of we are building a spine etc - so what happened - we have some good players and it always looks good on paper, maybe they have to try harder, or is that as long as they get paid, they don't care? Maybe they should be paid monthly on their performances? They can do it when they want to - without sounding unfaithful - sometimes they don't want to and they are so frustating - but I'll always support them - even though I threaten to support the Bulldogs next year, as they have guts.

I am a firm believer of 1 or 2 year contracts Max. Particularly after consecutive poor seasons. The Players need to be hungry, to fight for there position on the list.

When things are nice & safe you never extract the ultimate effort.

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
