Loving this

Watching tha game on foxtel. Already there is a different feeling.

Rivers is BACK. Cheney is a smart player. Spencer and Jones are the reason we are winning the clearances, even though thier kicking has been average.

Frawley is a different player. I know thats a lot to take from a quarter of footy still I'm excited.

Half time and just 7 points down.

We just need Brock to lift his game and we'll win this!

How good was it too see jetta kick his first and all the boys get round to him.

Just gives you this awesum feeling.

Posted

So much positive. Lets just find a bit of direct run from Buckley and more Brock around the hard ball and I think we can win this.

Down by seven points at half time, but the defence has been very good. Our attack looks to be held together with sticky tape and staples, but so far a nice tight game. All debutants doing well - particularly Cheney.

the rucks are irrelevent. so an over-rated aspect of our game. Hawks have the worst ruckmen going around and West coast have the best, yet one came 1st and one came 15th last year. 20 hitouts per game that dont go to advantage doesnt have much of an impact

Incorrect once again freak. The Kangaroos with McIntosh, Hale & Petrie were important in their sides win. McIntosh tried hard all day and had Johnson and Spencer chasing him, McIntosh took some telling marks in defence and pushed forward to kick a few telling goals in his sides 34point win. Hardly irrelevant.

McIntosh certainly took his medicine over the summer after being labelled by Laidley as perhaps a trade in trade week last October.

When your midfield contains the likes of Mitchell, Ablett and/or Judd, the rucking division becomes less important.

When your midfield is one-dimensional, slow and generally struggles to win clearances, your ruckmen can be your most important asset.

Correct.

Jared Rivers... Fully game... No broken bones... Victory! ;)

Now we just need to get Brock and Rivers playing well together.

Petterd was excellent up forward, and the first gamers really impressed.

Is it too early to ask for Watts to get a game? :D

Jaded....you will have to update your famous tracker.....Rivers got through ok.

No. It's not to early to ask Watts to pull on the boots. Our forward line is performing like a black hole at times. There is a sequel to the movie "White man can't jump", hollywood producers are putting pen to paper at this minute for a new script........"Bate can't jump", starring Matthew Bate.

Cheney was really good I thought, as was Jetta (disposal use questionable?)

Bennell I thought was alright, great attack on the ball in the 3rd(?) quarter on the MCC wing

Today's performance shows how important players like Maric, Wonna, Blease , Jurrah and of course Watts are going to be. I don't even take into account Robbo with those guys but they are clearly the future attack for the Dees and none of them are playing yet. It would be great to look forward a couple of seasons to see how the forward line structures up with those cattle available.

Alistar Nicholson would make a better full forward than Brad Miller, cant wait to J Watts is ready.

HF: Jetta Watts Davey

F: Petterd Robertson Wonaemirri

Cant wait to see that in action.

Davey doesn't seem to play FP anymore, he's more of an onballer nowadays. Maric would take that spot. And once Robbo's gone, Jurrah can have his spot. In any case, it's far better than the pathetic forward line we've got at the moment.

Whilst they did a few good things I think both Bennel and Jetta need more time to develop at casey. Grimes and wonna straight back in when they are fit. Otherwise much better just need to sustain the 1st 2 quaters for a full game.

Sure Frosty had a bad game, but jeez, lets not forget how poor our delivery was into the forward 50. And the forward line, it's non-existent. What the hell is Josh Mahoney doing down at the club? He hasn't got a clue when it comes to forward line structure.

it was a typical match... we didn't play the full 4 qtrs... but, as a PROUD melbourne supporter i can say that this is a long healing proccess that is long term. the club itself has come a long way, the next thing is the team... the club still has a fair way to go but i take my hat off to jimmy stynes... the best thing since sliced bread!

Totally agree, was not on his pat malone there (though, it wasnt like everyone had a shocking day). There is only so much you can do with the players that you have on the park. We will get better and better

Thumbs up to our fans. The ones that showed up were right behind the boys.'

The prematch stuff was good, involving the kids

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
