I must admit I have been a bit blah about the start of the season but today I have started to get a little excited again.

I really hope we can get 35k members this year and show some improvement on the field so that we can all be hanging for a big 2010 season where we hit the 8 again looking to a cup in the seasons after!

Me too. I think we will see an improvement. In all honesty we need it. 2008 was the lowest I've seen the club since 1997. (Special mention to 2003).

I think I predicted a final tally of 31,484 by the cut-off in June, back in September/October of last year. Pretty sure it was that number - it could have been 31,848........, I can't seem to find it yet in the archives of the forum here at Demonland. But I will, if someone doesn't find it before me.

I'd love for it to be 35,000 plus but I think that figure will be out of reach for the club this year - hope I'm wrong.

Unless you add peoples' pets like the Hawks did.

If we win the first two games - you can look to the stratosphere - 32,500 for sure.

Good man Devoted Dee.

Far out, this club is UNRECOGNISABLE to the MFC of 2-3+ years ago... and I LOVE it!

I signed up my dad today to a reserved seat. I reckon if I'm lucky he'll go to 1 game this year. But we can all try, can't we. If anyone thinks they can convince him to give up God and support the real thing, please let me know. Maybe something along the lines of "jack Watts is the real Messiah"?.?.?.?.?

I just wanted to mention that a thread over on 'Ology mentions that we have 25 000 members with 3 500 unsigned 2008 members.

But that doesn't compute because we had over 29 000 members last year and those numbers would have everyone signed up from last year leaving us under the 2008 number.

Maybe people bought multiple memberships last season after Jimmy took over, but I bloody hope not.

I really hope someone is really awful at maths at membership services...

I haven't done mine yet but I'll be out that way this week so you can add another one. Looking good so far. Very good.

Well we did ours a little while ago, and we also signed up my Essendon supporting brother and his Sydney supporting girlfriend......

If we have 25k before a ball is bounced and the sponsorship money as well, does that propel us up the endangered species list above the Kangaroos and Port? Jimmy and the boys really have pulled about a dozen rabbits out of the hat. Hope it continues

It would enhance our chances of being off the "endangered species list", but it would ensure we are far from the "extinction list" for now.

We budgeted for 30,000 members this year, so if we don't hit that mark we will lose money in that department. I would say at this stage we look almost certain to crack it, but not if we get flogged in the first round like last year. In terms of endangered species list i'd say we're on par with the Kangas and Port is ahead of both of us purely for the fact that they are an interstate club and the AFL would never let them fold.

Much of our financial success will rely on the team backing up on the good work that we've done off the field, and i don't necessarily mean winning, just not getting hammered! A big coup will be if we can pull of a win this week and then face the pies with some confidence the following week. Memberships and exposure would give us plenty to hear about.

I'll be getting my MCC/MFC membership at the game Sunday as well as my mate. So there will be 2 more members spending their weekends in the Frank Grey Smith Bar watching the Redlegs with a few schooners (well one a quarter).

Gees i love footy season!

Loved the fact that i'm supporting my club and whoever came up with that MCC/MFC crossover should be applauded.

What's this crossover you fellas are talking about?

It sounds from Rampaging Demon's post that non-MCC members are able to access members-only areas of the MCC Reserve.

Is this the case?

Posted

It's the $50 MFC / MCC membership.

If you are a member of the MCC you can have the option of purchasing a $50 package which is officially an MFC membership as well or a regular $130 ish membership.

I have gone the $50 option as money is a big tighter this year but it still shows support for the club.

Plus i love the Grey Smith Bar!

It will depend upon the actual mix of member types against what was budgeted and not just the overall membership numbers.

Thanks Ox05, I've got the MFC/MCC membership package as well - and I share your love of the FGS bar!

But my question was really in relation to Rampaging Demon's comment:

a great concept and for $150 a year - am able to drink beer from a glass while watching the mighty dees tear up the G!!!

I don't know what he's getting at, but to me it reads as though he believes the $150 MFC/MCC membership gives the bearer entry to the MCC Reserve, without an MCC membership.

I'd hate for a bloke to be disappointed!

    TRAINING: Wednesday 13th November 2024

A couple of Demonland Trackwatchers braved the rain and headed down to Gosch's paddock to bring you their observations from the second day of Preseason training for the 1st to 4th Year players. DITCHA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I attended some of the training today. Richo spoke to me and said not to believe what is in the media, as we will good this year. Jefferson and Kentfield looked big and strong.  Petty was doing all the training. Adams looked like he was in rehab.  KE

It was another strong season from McVee who spent most of his time mainly at half back but he also looked at home on a few occasions when he was moved into the midfield.
