DEMONS SECURE FINANCIAL SUPPORT (eventually)

At the SUMMIT we saw his model in summary which is a model not just for today but the future and for future administrations. Wish I had a photographic memory for you......

The devil's in the detail and I don't believe much detail was shared.

Most boards (as in a distinct collective of directors) say the right thing, but - as you said - we haven't been able to find a sustainable model yet.

The AFL and the Melbourne Cricket Club (MCC) have come to an agreement to provide Melbourne with a $2 million support package for the 2009 season. The MCC will provide $1 million in funding support for the Demons after the AFL announced an increase in the Annual Special Distribution funding from $250,000 to $1 million on Monday.

We'll need more information than that, get typing!

I was out on my nightly constitutional and listening to SEN. Out of the blue they announced that they had a press release frm the MCC that said they would be matching the $1M from the AFL. SEN obviously rang Schwaby to get a quick comment from him. Schwaby said that the phone had not been out of his ear for about three days. He said that relations between the MCC and MFC were always very good as were relations between the AFL and the MFC. You don't have to be Einstein to work out where the problem is. Schwaby did not speak for long, but was very passionate and said that we must never let ouselves get into this situation again and that we must build a strong business that generates revenue that does not nescessarily depend to the fortunes of the football team. Schaby is very good get.

Does anyone else liken this to two parents fighting obsessively whilst their neglected child watches on? The only problem is, rather than looking at the child and seeing sense, the 'parents' will look at us and think what an ugly duckling we are, with no obvious signs of blossoming into the proverbial swan. We can be fairly confident that there are those in the AFL that would like to see us boned, but I doubt the MCC is any better.

They will most likely come through for us this time around, but if things haven't improved dramatically in the next 12 months, and we are in a similar position next year, the situation will be a very hairy one for this club. Which is not to be taken lightly, given that the position we are currently in isn't particularly savoury.

Was surprised when Schwabb said that thus far we haven't had a business plan to make us financially viable. I hope he is speaking in relative terms, otherwise previous administrations should be fustigated. And I'm not talking about your standard, bread and butter, 'win footy games and you'll build membership and make money' strategy - that is a given. I'm talking about a proper business model to support the club's 'football business'.

We are a 150yr old child who has got only itself to blame for our current mess, we need our parents help getting out of it. One parent has agreed in principle whilst the "father" is being hard nosed business instead of a family. I hope Stephen Gough and his ilk do not live to regret not helping when the helping is needed most.

You beauty, $2 million injection, well done Schwabby & Stynes & Co. NOW...There's our launching pad put it to good use and on with the job!!!

It's up to the members and supporters to support in 2009 in terms of numbers, ensuring a trouble-free and prosperous year at a most difficult economic time. We can't rely on these kind of handouts too often. Merry Christmas.

DEMONS SECURE $2M IN DEAL

MELBOURNE DEMONS THROWN LIFELINE

Demons chief executive Cameron Schwab said the input from the AFL and the MCC was vital to the ongoing future of the club.

"Our eventual goal is to get to the stage where we are not reliant on this support and with the support of our members and supporters we think we can achieve that in the future," Schwab said.

Great to hear that each party has been able to get past their differences for the good of the MFC. At this point there really doesn't seem to be any negative news for the Dees, we've got some really exciting talent for the future, the members are signing up in their droves, and now we've just been given $2million for Christmas!

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the
