He didn't get alot of game time because they wanted to manage his injuries properly, when fully fit he wins alot of the ball apparently

Thanks Jarka. I was struggling to understand why there was so much excitement over this kid.

Statistics get in the way of your assesment again ?

Mo this kid wasnt in our plans like Barry Predergast said he couldnt believe he was still their at 17

Looks the goods to me

Actually reminds me of a skinny kid that played for Brunswick and walked into North Melbourne

Be nice if he also played 300+ games the way that guy did

His name was Wayne Schimmelbusch

Yes he was. he was one of the players Barry thought would be in the mix close to 17. It depended on a couple of the sides picks. StKilda's, Geelongs and the Hawks.

Watching some footage of him, he strikes me as very slight but very smart with the footy. Reminds me of Brent Harvey

As a Tigers fan, he modelled his game on Deledio and there is a bit of that boldness in his play.

I hope he can continue the impersonation, we need that run and fearlessness with the footy.

One thing that i have never seen mentioned about Blease that struck me when i watched the U/18 final, was that he also has a bit of mongrel in him even though he is quite a skinny kid.

I remember watching him thinking "this kid is a goer, i like him".

Also, a couple of astute footy "experts" in Liam Pickering and Robert Shaw, are both on the record as saying that having watched him in that final, they saw something special in him.

Averaged 10 possessions per game during the under '18 carnival as an outside mid. I'd hardly describe him as a ball winner.

Also, it was reported in yesterday's Age that he was suffering from OP towards the end of the season, and did his hammy. Doubt that we'll see much of him next year.

He doesn't gather a massive amount of possessions, but he hurts the opposition every time he gets it, the sort of player that only needs 15 touches to get in the best. Actually the final u18 game against WA was a good example of this, he had less then 20 touches but was one of the better players on the day.

Loves a tackle, i think he understands that because he's so quick he can run done lots of blokes and does so.

The kid looks good but he's got a long way to go and a lot to learn - Doing it with Blease

Does he know something we don't?

Probably his own personal expectations more than anything.

The kid will be a gun, seriously reminds me of Jason Akermanis.

I think he means that we are no longer affiliated with Sandringham.

But its obviously a freudian slip, no more.

Peter Matera anyone?

I thought Akermanis straight away as I can remember him when young. looks a real game breaker.

I don't know why some people are unhappy with the draft choices because we didn't get two key forwards. It takes a few drafts and this was our second really good draft.

We are loading up on fast players who can kick well. imagine the doggies with much better key position players.

I think people compare us to Hawthorn already but you can only draft whats available at the time.

I have high hopes for this kid in particular as he is an outside runner but doesn't mind the contact side of things at all.

One more gun midfielder and perhaps key position forward and we can have a premiership side in the making!!

By his own admission, he had a quiet under '18 championship. His best game was in the final against WA, and he only got 10 possessions. Jarka explained that this was due to limited game time. My original post was in response to someone claiming he was a ball-winner. He's obviously not, but can hurt the opposition with the quality of his disposal.

And yes, I do like players that know how to find the ball, which is why I was hoping we would take Swift at picks 17 or 19.

And you are one of those gullible people who gets their jollies off when their club's recruiting manager comes out with "I can't believe we got him at pick so & so".

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
