Watts wont be a key forward at AFL level

Just before everyone gets their hopes up that we have drafted a star forward in the mould of Carey, Riewoldt, Brown etc

Watts will be a utility at AFL level, and will either turn into the next James Hird or another Aaron Fiora type.

If we draft him, you better hope it is the former.

YM you really need to get your hand off it. He is a key forward in every sense of the word. You base your posts about Watts on nothing.

Seen him play a few times actually.

Still hoping we take Naitanui at pick 1.

Naitanui is actually a little bit of a hack as far as I'm concerned, and could become a gigantic blunder if he doesn't develop his footy skills and smarts. I still think Danny Rich is going to become the best player out of this draft, based on what little I've seen of him. Unfortunately, he's West Australian, so the "go-home" risk is probably a little high.

I'm interested, YM, in why you think Watts won't play solely in the forward-line.

YM ppl try to ignore your posts as much as they can, coz they are always rubbish, but is it really necessary to post how much you like Naitanui more than Watts every 2 days?

Watts is definitely a key forward, and played as such for most of the championships. The fact he can play on the wing or on a flank is a bonus and is necessary in modern football (flexibility that is). Watts will be a star no doubt. 14 of 16 afl club recruiters apparently rate him number 1 pick from what i've been told.

Naitanui on the other hand, could be a star. His tap work is awesome, as is his tackling. However he averages about 8-10 possies a game this season... that's really not good enough for a top pick. Their are huge question marks whether this area of his game will improve at afl level. perhaps it will, but still too huge a risk to take.

Watts or Rich for me thanks. Either nab ourselves a star mid or a star forward.

Not forgetting Cale Morton was a CHF but didnt play forward much this year.

When was Morton a CHF? He played most of his junior football for Claremont and WA running along the wings and flanks. He has key position height, but don't think he's played much KP because of his twig-like body shape.

Watts

Then Rich

Then vickery

Then Natuini

Then Sidebottom

there is the top 5 in order i reckon

One of Vickey or NicNat will slide.

Hartlett and Ziebell would be above SS.

Anyone who has class, plays in the midfield, but also pushes forward and yet kicks 10 goals on the biggest stage in a Grand Final on the Telstra Dome, will be taken early in the National Draft. Steele Sidebottom has a rocket next to his name.

As silly as it seems YM might actually be right..... Hodge played CHF for the Geelong Falcons in the TAC...

spot on. Vickery & Naitanui may switch positions but i doubt it. Or Nat & Rusty.

I think you've got it though

Don't know about that. Watts at No.1, then Rich/Naitanui will go to WC/Freo. Vickery to Port. Hurley will go to either Essendon or Carlton (so pick 5 or 6), Ziebell, Sidebottom and Hartlett will fill up 3 of the spots 5, 6, 7 and 8.

Watts is only 17 and 194cm, he's already over 85kg meaning he'll get much too heavy to play extended stints in the midfield. He will be a KP forward, maybe with the ability to pinch hit in the midfield like Pavlich, or run up the wings like a Richo or Riewoldt.

Hodge is 184cm's tall.... 10 cm's difference and he is still growing.

Only turned 17 this year. Very very young.

194cm

85kg

Played as a forward all his life.

Im suggesting he will be a CHF eventually like Buddy and Riewoldts position.

First two or three years he will play FP next to Robbo/Miller

Last week it was Blease, this week it's Sidebottom, next week it'll probably be whoever does well at the Draft Camp.

Professional recruiters aren't as fickle as the football public.

And given how much you have ripped into him before he is even drafted, if (when) he is taken at number one, I certainly hope he will have your support anyway.

I think you made your point the first time you posted it. Half an hour earlier. (Posts #17,18)

Re: Fickle. True, I made the point after your view that Hartlett and Ziebell would go ahead of Sidebottom. We'll see.

Was last week Blease?

You got number 1 right. Reckon Natuini will go 2 and Rich then at 3. 4 - 10 to consist of Hartlett, Hurley, Yarran, Trengrove, Vickery, Robinson and Ziebell (not necesssarily in that order). I reckon Sidebottom will go 11 or 12.

Y_M'll just bump his threads where he hailed Watts as the messiah :)

PS. It doesn't matter if fans on here 'support' particular players :P You should have learned this with Miller.

No you haven't you muppet.

You have said many times before you have only watched him on video you lier.

Stop talking crap.

You have never seen him live.

You have no idea what you are talking about.

The whole football world knows we are taking Watts.

We will not be taking a wonky athletic freak show who is slower than Watts over 20 metres.

Get over it.

You are starting to sound like a twisted spoilt little know-it-all, when in fact you are so far out of your depth it is embarrassing amd i am tired of reading your dribble.

Naita will be lucky to play 1 or 2 games next year.

Watts however will play the majority of games for the MFC next year as a key forward, mark my words.

The sooner you realise this and the sooner you stop bagging our new recruit the better.

Pull your head in ya muppet!!!

yes he will be KP foward

194 and still growing, 2.80 20 m sprint off on the lead, takes great pack marks. he will be up there, you dont have to be MASSIVE to be a KPP foward- look at franklin, built like a rake. look at mckinley- under 190cm. look at medhurst- under 185 cm.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
