Oh, the Wizard. He was my favourite player when he wore the red and blue. The epitomy of excitement and unpredictability. During his time at Melbourne, he was electrifying, and a major reason behind our 2000 Grand Final appearance. He then moved to Freo and became a show pony with questionable off-field exploits, but I guess that's par for the course at that club. Some of my favourite Wiz career highlights include:

* 8 goals in the 2000 prelim

* 9 goals in the second half against Collingwood after not getting a touch in the first half

* Almost doubling the marks and goals of the year in 1998, but missing out on the goal to Woey

* Handballing into the back of Garry Lyon's head in the season-ending 1995 loss to the Cows

I know he's gone off like stale milk, but after a season where we were about as exciting as a Tonia Todman infomercial, it's nice to remember the sheer excitement the Wiz brought to watching Melbourne. His career with the Dees would fill a long highlights reel. If you released a DVD package of his highlights, I reckon you could find at least 50 of his 259 Melbourne goals that were absolute magic and would bring a smile to your face. There was just something special about the days the Wiz would light up the G with a bag. A 6+ haul from the Wiz was just something else. I wish he'd stayed at Melbourne, but I'll fondly remember his time as a Demon.

Good summary Pants.

He was never the same when he left MFC. Issues in his private life turned a creative, almost genius footballer into an angry bitter and nasty footballer who undermined his talent with a variety of questionable behavioural traits.

Yep. It was a filthy cold and rainy day at Waverley and we flogged an ordinary Hawthorn outfit from the outset. Farmer had a few bounces and torpedoed from around 50 if my memory serves me correctly. He also clobbered Shane Crawford that day and earned a holiday!

Yeah, it was really quite sad. I really liked him at Melbourne. Maybe I'm looking through rose coloured glasses, but I saw him as a cheeky young fellow who provided a real excitement about going to the footy. He just seemed a bit offputting at Freo.

Woey ran further (from around defensive 50), had about five bounces and a couple of baulks (spelling?), and slotted through from about 45 to the Punt Rd end at the G. A memorable highlight from another whipping of the Power at the G.

Great memories from the Wizard, he truly made our list exciting again, right from that first pre-season game we saw him play out at Waverley.

I was quite surprised at how similar his stats are for the two clubs, somehow assumed he was at Freo a lot longer and did a lot more there:

Games : Freo : 131 Melb: 118

Goals: Freo: 224 Melb: 259

Kicks: Freo: 1106 Melb: 882

Handballs: Freo: 471 Melb: 417

Marks: Freo: 432 Melb: 296

Well done to the Wizard on a great if somewhat not quite fulfilled career.

He has had an up and down year with some indiscretions, but given his last few weeks and especially the last round where he was Freo's 2nd best player and leading goalkicker, he is unlucky not to have been given another year.

He can still play good football.

55 metres out. Collected ball from inside defensive 50m. It was very wet. I was behind the goals where the ball bounced through from Farmers torp. I was also saturated.

More individually created by Woey. Farmer's included two kicks and two handball receives (one from G.Lyon - special mention).

Finished off his career well by playing a huge part in Freo's win over the "Filth". Geez, Pies supporters will be happy he is retired now.

Farmer averaged 1.94 goals a game in 249 games. Better than KB 1.93 a game.

Loved watching the Wizard run around in Red and Blue. Did some magical things and played a key role in the great forward line of the late Ninties and early 2000's. I'm glad we got rid of him when we did though.

    REDEEMING by Meggs

    It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.
