Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Mousey..theres absolutely nothing wrong at all with extracting and enjoying the game ..to whatever level the spectator or participant wishes...nothing. And each to there own to a point come the value you place upon that. That you stil savour the exploits of Mr Air..great.. I stil fondly remember watching #2 dazzle the world on the wing and if anyone ever deserved a Brownlow..or a GR medallion etc on sheer artistry, skill and devotion to the club..it was one Robert Flower. Yes he from what we know now apparently shhoed away many offers but stuck with the Dees. Thankyou Robert.. ..also thankyou to the likes of anyone who played with heart for the Red and Blue. That they did was testament to their choice to pursue a carreer in footy and apply themselves to it.. They also would have reaped what they considered a fair reward. That is their life-decision. Its theirs as indeed are all of ours, ours !!

Strangely and I dont use this so much as argument..simply to suggest theres always another position on things.. I have heard Neeta often experss his gratitude to eh club..that he often felt that he would beholdig to them for the opportinites and the chance to grow a she has..into a marvellous bloke..Again..always more than one way to come at many things.

I dont begrudge the Yzes..The Whites..the whomevers of this sporting world there due but its a two way street . Its not National service.. they havent come to the game under protest.. They do so because they have teh chance through their own abilites to do something invariably most of us never will.. experience a passion at its ultimate level. hey provide..the club provides.. theres a balance. .( well in the main ) When one ceases to serve the other it comes to an end.

We may as spectators sometimes more the loss of a player as though they were part of our lives but in reality we're only there to watch . The club is there to exist and prevail. Its a competition after all. The goal isnt to just make it..its to win. To prosper.

Theres an agreement between clubs and players ..mutally agrred to...when its usefullness or time ends..it ends..Thats it. Theresno real ongoing debt by either party other than what ever one wants to GIVE to the other..What some of us is that the Club owes nothing...what is there to owe , for how long ? how would it be measured..how or whom would ajudicate ? Theres nothing. Each thanks the other for being part of it..and life goes on. :)

Fair enough mate and i understand now.

We owe them the opportunity to continue playing AFL with other clubs in 2009 and hopefully for White at least get something for him, may be a third round pick.

We owe them nothing of the sort. You really think Clubs are that incredibly naive that they would forget somehow the last four years of White's demise since the rule change and then all of sudden after the Port ping a lightbulb in their head and say "We need that man!" on the back of one game. Beggars belief it really does.

Maric would be missing because of school.

Frawley? Well i still am yet too see why everyone thinks hes vital to our future, has not shown anything to me to warrant a spot in our best 22 every week.

I couldn't agree more mousey...i was getting worried that it was just me that wasn't seeing anything in this kid

Disagree with the main thrust of what you've penned 'Bub, but genuinely appreciate the analysis. Thanks for a thoughtful explanation of your position.

I find it amusing the amount of people going "oh what why!?" on here without a. knowing what's going on at the selection table and b. actually backing up with any kind of argument whatsoever

I find it amusing you're here at all

He's almost got a point 45. Yes, we are here to analyse, scrutinise etc, but we can't second guess the off-field game plan. The plan which dovetails into the big match at season's end; Drafting for the future!

IMO with these last couple of games it really doesn't matter which players play. We need those players selected who can benefit the most, but in terms of where we are going list wisei in 2009.

Cant see us winning against Port no matter who we pick

They are far stronger at the contest than us and our clangers will create far more oppurtunities for them than we can cover

I'd find it odd if supporters on a forum don't have an opinion on any given week's selection, maybe that's just me. And what does Yze have to gain from playing this match, and how does it help our list management into '09?

I agree Swamp, i wouldn't give us a chance to win even if we had no injuries. I'd like to see us fight and not lose by over 60 points yet again at that horrid ground

I think you've answered your own question 45. Could this be the loss we have to have?

Very selective 45. The full statement was, "We need those players selected who can benefit the most, but in terms of where we are going list wise in 2009.

So, as I said, you answered your own question. I can accept that I may only beat you once in a debate ;) I'm not greedy.

I'm pretty sure Maric has VCE or school-football commitments, because it seems grossly unfair to drop him.

are school footy commitments a possibility? has he played most of the year at school or sandy? if he has qualified for school finals it would not be a surprise if the club let him go back to play there for a weekend or two...

ps sorry didnt see DD36's post. that'll explain it...

Hmmm, not sure I agree. I believe they are, overall, more skilful. But as a rule, have dreadful tackle counts.

Seems to me they are good AT the contest, but not so good GETTING TO the contest

Sorry, i was selective because i don't understand that sentence.

It seems to be missing a section. I'm glad you're not greedy, i don't really see this as a debate as we're not arguing anything. I stand by my question of you, what does Yze have to gain? Are you saying that he benefits because we will probably lose and therefore get a better draft pick? I don't see how he benefits.

How do we, the MFC, benefit out of creating a list for the '09 season by dropping players that will be a part of that list for players that won't?

Not very logical if you ask me

to be honest its just valenti is not good enough, tries hard, would love him to do well but just isnt up to afl level.

That's rubbish, he has been in our best-22 easy this season

Even if your right about the first part i doubt your second part (getting to the contest) will be a problem for Port

When we make a clanger Port will already be at the contest

What bothers me most about our style of play is we dont move the ball quickly enough for it to be affective (the style ISNT the probelm)

I wouldnt care about clangers within those parameters as those forward thrusts without error have the best chance of scoring

being too timid to make a decison is a clanger waiting to happen at this level

We are quick to judge the ball carrier which is often not the cause of slow play

besides disposal errors what has killed us this year is our lack of ability to create space to recieve the ball when its required

To me this is the biggest difference (besides skill) between VFL and AFL which is why i find it ludicrous that starring at VFL level justifies AFL prommotion

What would you learn playing at VFL level

Get your form back ?

Yze anyone ?

Our disposal level is woeful enough for me to bet we would still make clangers WITHOUT an opposition player on the field for 5 minutes

Its called taking the game on and i am afraid we have too many players not confident enough to do just that

Yeah, good to hear he is concentrating on school. He's had a taste of senior footy and did brilliantly, but to be perfectly honest a good VCE score will help him more in life than playing a losing game in Adelaide.

Smart kid and great to see the club accommodating him. It will be much the same if we get Watts in the draft, he probably won't play any senior footy at all.

By the way, Greeny made it pretty damn obvious on the Footy Show tonight that these are farewell matches for both Yze and Whitey.

What cheers me up is that I'll be able to watch Maric throughout '09 and '10, not so worried about his non selection.

If White and Yze are getting farewell games, why in Adelaide? Why not give them one at the 'G in a game we might be aiming to win?

Ah well, in two weeks this horrible season will be behind us and we can all laugh at Collingwood

Its quite possible ( pure speculation ) that Bailey has given Maric a few games ..to see where he's at. With nothing really to gain from the rest of the season maybe Bails is leaving Maric to get on with his schooling with no real pressure. Makes sense to me.. but possibly the jury is out on the merits of that !! :D

Yeah nah school commitments were not the reason for his ommision, just not a spot on the team for him.

Says who?

We're 16th and he can hit a target, there is definitely a spot for him in the side especially since Aussie is struggling.

Maric has qualified... He can now forward his career with MFC over the next few years. Last thing he needs is to play in the upcoming PA debacle, which is pencilled in for a loss from all accounts, but don't tell anyone. If he is not hitting the books, the young fella can rest his body.

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
