Reported in the Age and herald that Jeff says he wants to play on and thinks he has 1 or 2 years left in him!!!!

So that means both White and Yze want to play on and i dont think we are interested in resigning them!

Will we get anything in return or just let them walk?

Sad time when they wont be playing their last games in the red and blue!!!

i would put money on the fact that neither will be at the mfc next year. if that is the mfc's decision we will do the right thing and offer them a spot at other clubs. in that case we will offer a swap of draft picks in similar scenarior to what we did with peter walsh a few years ago.

that is if we have declared we dont want them and no club comes looking. if a club comes looking they might try and get something.

i could see a club using white as a top up ruckman if a) they have no one or b ) they are in premiership mode. but he isnt a premiership ruckman. he wont dominate the play, he wont assert his body on the contest. he is back up experience at est these days. and no one will pay much for him.

Pick 50 and white for pick 48 would do the trick. That being the case i think a few clubs will consider him a cheap, pain free option and if it doesn't come off they really haven't lost anything. Sydney and Carlton would have to consider it.

It was sadder MFC did not make a more sensible assessment of both players years ago when they had some market value. Their last contracts have resembled retirement pension plans. We should seek to avoid this calamity in the future.

I would be surprised if either player was picked up in the PSD. Certainly no trade value. The next couple of months could resemble a reality check for both of them.

I think we would get 3rd round picks from either.

But hell why not just trade our 3rd rounder and White to Freo for Warnock, they get a pick and a short term back up.

Agreed. Both should have been delat a couple of years ago.

I also agree that Yze has no hope in getting picked up, he needs to know it's over.

He cant cut a game in a bottom club, is short, has no physical presence and gets towelled in the ruck. You must think other Clubs are totally daft offering a 3rd round pick for a 31/32 yo out of contract.

Why would we trade at all for Warnock if we have the PSD#1 and Warnock is out of contract and want to come back to Victoria? And if White loves the Gold Coast where his family is, then why would he agree to a trade to Freo in the West?

Still think he would do OK next season as backup, but oh well. Good luck in whatever may happen Jeff.

out of interest rhino, you are saying we should have made the hard calls years ago, which i agree with, but i havnt read anything from you RE brad green. what are your takes on trading him now while he has value? perhaps it would make more sense for you to add them in the green thread so we dont hijack this one, but i was keen to hear from you. i might have simply missed you, but you have been strangely silent on this one.

lol. looks like rhino rolled u deanox. Anyway, personally I don't think Jeff White is anywhere near as bad as what people are saying. His footskills are probably near the best of any ruckman in the comp as well as his workrate around the ground. Clearly ahead of ruckmen like Blake who is getting a gig at the cats. Anyway, I don't really care to see him go because i don't see a place for ruckmen in todays game.

Green, Bruce, Yze should have been traded at their peak trading value. We would have had a plethora of high first round draft picks if the club had some sense

Yes. He will be seen as a back-up by other clubs currently in the top 8 IMO. The club would trade for late picks ie Over pick 55-60+. An d I'd imagine those late pick(s) would be used as swapping of picks for a better position to help secure a better draft pick - at best.

All this "we should have traded them when they had currency" is hindsight garbage. White was one of the premier ruckmen prior to the centre-circle rule, and we were playing regular finals football. Why would we trade him then?

Unfortunately for Jeff, the centre-circle rule has diminished his most useful asset, his leap, and he is a shadow of the player that he was. Having said that, I wouldn't be surprised if some club did pick him up as a back-up ruckman, but that all depends on Jeff's ego. I get the impression that he doesn't like playing second fiddle.

White has tried to justify why he should play on in the HS back page article.

"This year, including games with Sandy (VFL affiliate Sandringham), I've averaged the most possessions I've had in my career.

That's all well and good, but first and foremost he is a ruckman and his ruckwork has gone downhill big time. This is the guy who has the most hitouts of any ruckman from the last 2 decades, yet this season he's outside the top 10 for average hitouts per game.

The introduction of the rucking circle was the beginning of the end for white, he was a big reason it was introduced and we always knew that once he started to lose his leap he'd be finished. He's only getting older and he will continue to lose his leap, he will be even less competitive in the ruck next year. It's a tough decision, but an obvious one

You only do a trade if you believe that it will improve your list. Midfielders are a dime a dozen, so it made sense to trade an overpaid Woewodin for a 1st rd pick. And I agree that trading Yze or TJ back then, wouldn't have hurt us in the short or long term. But quality ruckmen aren't easy to find. Jolly would have been an adequate replacement if we kept him, but he's no worldbeater.

I think it would be silly to let White leave. We have Jamar and Johnson as our ruck stocks, with Meeson being a waste of a draft pick and Warnock a possibility. But that makes for a very young and fairly inexperienced stick of rucks, with no veteran leadership. I think that if the MFC signed White to a one-year, minimum contract (say, 150k a year) it would be a worthy investment. If they let him go, I think it would do the team more halm than good. Letting Yze go is completely different, as we have Macca, Green and Bruce who all fit his mold in the on-field positioning and leadership. White has probably been the most effective ruckman over the past decade. It would be hard justifying letting him go. I'm sure he would be happy to stick around as a leader and teacher, much like how Macca is.

Trade PJ? He is just getting his groove on now, and becomming a very serivable player. He is very versatile PJ. I would be happy with Jamar and Meesen though.
