At the end of the day Hawkins hasnt been able to crack into the Geelong team..and of course its Geelong but someone like Franklin and even roughead would have made a starting 18 position in their line up. From all reports he's hardly been carving it up at VFL level either. The problem with Tomahawk is that he still appears to be too big - agility and endurance are more important than size if you are a forward in today's game. No disrespect to Tom Lonergan, but you would have thought that a guy with the wraps like Hawkins would have played more games.

Don't worry about that, Watts is all class. If you want aggression, Lewis Johnston from SA shows a fair bit, and he would hopefully be there abouts with our PP. He'd provide that X-Factor too in our forward line.

I wouldn't mind seeing a forward line that read:

Wona - Watts - Johnston

Maric - Miller - Davey

You have not got a clue of the difference between "hard" and "soft". Hard has nothing to do with suspensions or physical acts directed against other players. The defensive pressure in todays game with fitter, stronger players running hard than ever before suggests the game has never been harder and more contested. Its a testament to the physical nature of the game that hard at it players like Brown and Carey had or will have shortened careers through build up of wear and tear on their bodies. In fact some of the so called "hard" players of the past were some of the most gutless individuals you could find particularly those players that poleaxed unsighted opponents behind the play.

Everyone keeps saying this and its a load of bollocks. Hawkins played the first 10 or so weeks - ahead of Lonergan, was dropped for a couple of weeks to find some touch - as most 19 year old kids are along the way, and has since been injured for the last couple of months. He has played twice as many games as your average 19 year old KPP prospect.

He signed on with the Cats mid year and Bomber came out as recently as a month ago and said they have big plans for him. He will not be going anywhere.

That aside I wouldnt trade the No 1 pick for him in a million years, far to one dimensional. I'd consider the PP though.

Dominating at VFL level doesn't translate to being a competent player at AFL level. Just ask Mark Jamar or Paul Johnson. There is a significant gap between the two, even more so at Geelong. Hawkins has yet to play in the AFL like he has at the VFL.

And it is true that he can't crack into the Geelong team. He has been fit for most of this year, yet Lonergan and Gamble have taken his spot in the team.
