How many can retire or be delisted?

All this talk of a major cleanout at the end of the season with retirements and delisting dead wood; does anyone actually know if there is a limit to the changes that can be made to a list at the end of any given season?

There is a limit..... It is called sanity

A team, if they really are on a death wish, can delist every player if that is what they want! The only problem is contracts.... Not all clubs can make wholesale changes to their list every season....

Do we really want a league full of Carltanks??? :P

If i had it my way::::::

OUT:

retired (forced retired)---- White, Neitz, Holland, Yze

borderline retire- depending on their bodies and whether they want to go on- McDonald, Whelan

Delist- Weetra, Bode, Carrol

Trade for picks---- one of Bruce or Bell--- only because these are the only players on our list that have some worth, but are also very expendible.

keep Sylvia because though expendible, his trade value is below his real worth, so it would be a bad trade for us.

overall- 4 retired, 3 delisted minimum---- maximum 6 retire, 3 delisted and 1 traded.

IN:

6-7 draftees, 1 PSD, 2 rookie elevations.

While I agree with the suggestions involving most of the players mentioned, I have read somewhere that Carroll and Weetra have contracts covering 2009.

Can anyone confirm this?

Bailey has said that Carroll is contracted for 09. Don't know about Weetra.

Id love to trade Bell and Sylvia for a second round pick.

Fwiw, CC's mentioned that there'd be around seven changes.

Cheers. So what do we already know? Neitz is gone, White, Yze, Holland, Macca are probably all gone. That's 5. Surely there will more then 2 delistings. Correct me if I've left out anyone that is above a 90% chance of retiring.

As many as there are out of contract, and not wanted. Or who agree/wish to retire.

Simple.

I'm pretty sure Weetra's out of contract this year. Carroll is definitely contracted for 09 unfortunately.

In the gun and out of contract:

Yze

Neitz (obviously)

White

Holland

Bode

Weetra

I'm not sure of the contract status of Newton, but surely he's on the brink of extinction now. For now I'll assume he'll be on the list next year.

With Valenti and Aussie now surely certain to be promoted, that would leave 4 spots available for the draft. I'm not convinced that's enough, so I'd be looking to trade one player out for an enhanced draft position, but the problem is I don't think we've got anyone who would really fetch a price that would be worth it. We might dredge a second rounder for someone like CJ or Bell, but I doubt it. The likes of Bruce and Sylvia would get nibbles but IMO they're worth more in the side than on the draft table.

I had Warnock's name on my "delist" list written in pen at the beginning of the year. I've since had to apply the white-out.

Of the remaining rookies, I'd retain Spencer for a second year and turf Zomer.

A lot seem to hate the list management time of the year, but personally I love it. I'd love to be a fly on the wall in the list management meetings.

Nasher, do you see Syliva as more important in the side now, or more important in the side in the future?

I think Sylvia's a player that would look very good in a good side. In my eyes he doesn't look as bad now as he seems to to everyone else, but maybe that's just rose coloured glasses. I like the way he's built and the way he attacks the ball. He can take a grab and he's a good kick.

If he can iron out the brain fades that currently litter his matches then I think he'll be a genuinely good player. It's all ifs and buts at the moment, but I'm still hopeful.

yet you dont have any time for newton who has played 14 games and kicked 20.12? why should sylvia get yet another role of the dice?

he is averaging 10 disposals, 4 marks and 1.5 tackles in his 14 games.

just for comparrison. one club legend, D Neitz, averaged 11 disposals, 5 marks and .9 tackles over his 306 game career. In no season did he average more than 1.1 tackles per game. Im not sure what people expect from a full forward? i expect him to kick a couple of goals.

Macca has signed on again.

Newton will be around next year. With our current forward stocks, he has to be retained. This makes him very lucky as in just about any other club he would be gone in a heartbeat. The only upside for us in this is the chance that something finally clicks and he realises the position he is in, and pulls his finger out.

Patience Grasshopper.

Miller is just coming good

He's still too tall and lanky. He'll grow into his body over the next 2-3 years and may turn out a decent player. We can afford to be patient with him. We have good coaches who are every chance to turn Newts into a solid contributor. No certainty but worth a shot wouldn't you think?

For mine

OUTS: Neitz, Yze, White, Whelan, Weetra, Holland, Bode

TRADES: Wheatley, Bell, Green

Yeah, lets trade Wheatley and Green.....two of our best players this year. Green will be Captain next year. Players who can kick like Wheatley are an asset, look how our point kick in's suffered without him on Sunday.

If Green is captain next year I think I would tear up my membership. You can't be serious?

You are right Wheatley's kicking is an asset, to the opposition, as he turns it over so often it's like he's playing for them

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the
