Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

For those of you who are tired of Cam Bruce's contribution to the Melbourne Footy club think again.

Cam has put his hand up in the last month to play injured for the remainder of this season to lead the younger players each and every week. Without his support, we have no future. The future of our great club lies within our developing player group. Cam is the father of that group, they all look to him for guidance and he is leading by example. Cam has a condition known to most as shin splints where the facia beneath the shin is deteriorating but manageable. Cam is on crutches for 24 hours after each game and plays in pain!

If thats not leadership what is? Im sick and tired of reading pessimistic and negative crap directed at him.

All of this has come from Cam's mouth - he happens to be a close mate of mine and business partner. He's busting his guts and if you cant see that then you're blinded by your own selfish agenda!

Magic... The great majority of MFC supporters recognise Cam's wonderful contribution to this club over a sustained period in our modern history. I am like many who recognise his unique skills and his consistent excellence. I want to see him in the Red & Blue when we rise up to another premiership campaign. I think you will find most Demon supporters feel the same as I do. No need to defend him against a few mavericks who parade on these boards with dillusions about their importance. Bruce will survive the misguided barbs directed at him and establish himself as one of the best players this club has seen in its modern era.

Mate, I think you will find it is only a few posters here who give Brucey a hard time. I have identifed most of them and ignore them; I suggest you do the same.

If it's that bad, why play him? His efficiency is down in comparison to his magnificent effort to take the field. If he was on crutches after the game for a day, why risk him? There are others at Sandy busting guts that aren't on crutches after the game!

Did you go to school with him? I went to Beauie primary with him MANY years ago. Maybe we know one-another?

Shin splints are such a pain in the arse. Every step you take gives you discomfort, and when you run it's just constant pain ...

And the worst part is that you sound like a little girl if you complain about it. I'm stunned he can pick up the amount of possies he does with that condition.

What I'd like to see. is a guy like Cam Bruce go down out west to Werribee and thank that Richmond supporter personally for the donation of $10K to the Melbourne Football Club

;)

Do you think he would?

Great stuff mate! I didn't know of Cam's shin problem and what sort of guts does that show? Terrific leadership indeed. I bet YM would declare himself unavailable if he had a blister on his little toe! Bruce's so called bad handballs are only so because some of our boys are not ready for the swiftness of them. They fumble the ball and Cam gets the rap from our 'expert' Bruce haters. I have followed the Dees since the '50s and Bruce is in my top 50 players of my time. He is also a real role model as a BALL player. He is scrupulously fair at all times. Definite captain next year!

Yeah me too. He must have found that hard to bear! Cam could kick 10 goals straight from 10 disposals and his baggers would declare them inefficient because they didn't split the posts and only scraped in.

Don't let them get to you AM.

Bruce has always been a bloke I've seen as the most versatile player at our club and to have come from the Ammos to put together his career is staggering.

With all due respect..I'd call it stupidity !! But this is why. It makes no sense. If he is doing this with such results then he certainly doesnt do himslef any favours. It wil come home to haunt him. Nice of him to lead..very noble, yadda yadd yadda.. He not the only one who can.. We're not playing for finals etc..and yet he risks himself.. Again..stupid

This is not war.. this is not life and death ..this is after all..just a game. This is after all..his livelyhood. Whyrisk your ongoing health for such little return ..I am not being disparaging for the sake of it..its a legitimate question.. One, someone like me who's a bit older feels is warranted. There are ways to lead without putting your bosy through unecessary rigours...for what ??

With all due respect you are a mate and close..good for you..we see things differently.. possibly more clinincally. Probably with better perspective to be honest.

If hes in this much distress ..hang the boots up for the rest of the year.. have a good pre season..and come out fighting fit for next year.. That makes sense to me

Otherwise Im really not interested in half fit people going out for whatever reason..again..its just stupid..and very poor return on the doillar being paid by the club. That goes for anyone..

always watched Cam on match day and if anyone else has noticed that he wears his track suit bottoms till the last minute and has done this for a long time and i suspect this maybe the reason he has done so.

Always had me wondering why he did so, just put it down to some sort of superstition.

Thankfully management has dealt with the sniper.

That said I have to agree with bub. It might be a courageous act to play under pain but the question must be asked whether he's not jeopardising his future and that of the club for that matter by playing on this season. Surely, it's better to rest it up and be fit for the next pre season? We've already seen this year the effect of so many players not having a full pre season's preparation.

As soon as Junior's back to lead the club, he should be put to pasture for the remainder of the season and no more heroics!

If Cam Bruce has shin splints, he should be rested for the remainder of the season to promote full recovery. When he returns to full fitness the skill coaches need to teach him how to kick accurately and how to judge where and when to handball so that he passes the ball to players on our team.

Shin splints are manageable, I have them to.

They can be at times very painful but also at times non existent. He could and im guessing will play on for the rest of the year.

Even if he did have the rest of the year off it may not get better.

It takes a VERY strong player to play through it (if it is that bad) mine isn’t as bad a Cam's

Good work Brucey

We all love you

I totally agree with TP and let him recover from it so you can bring in a young fella in.

All for the youth but the kids need experienced players out there as well.

I'm not a Bruce for captain member but still rate him as a leader. Would go so far to say if the OP is true he is showing the kids a thing or two in regard to professionalism and the preparation required to get the most out of your ability.

I'm not a bruce fan but I'm not a hater either the problem with him is years ago he got a above himself and thoght he arived as a AFL elite before he did and played arrogant football.

I'm interested to know how he changed as a footballer from when he first began playing and when he "arrived" as an elite footballer?

I would say when he stopped playing smart football and played with arrogance trying to take one handed marks too often, playing on when he had no chance to get past the opponent. To be elite you have to be able to turn a game on your own you think Bruce can do that?

He has not stopped playing smart football. Anybody can make a few mistakes, especially when coaches, teammates, and game plans change. I simply can't agree he plays with arrogance. What's this about 1 handed marks and playing on? Not saying it has never happened but I bet we can find other examples in MFC and other clubs from elite players.

Let's see, when did he stop playing smart football. We'll take a look at his team ranking for MFC since 2000. Reference:http://finalsiren.com/Fixture.asp?TeamID=13&SeasonID=2008&Go=Go

2000 ranked 19.

2001 ranked 16

2002 ranked 6

2003 ranked 4

2004 ranked 3

2005 ranked 4

2006 ranked 1

2007 ranked 1

2008 to date ranked 2

I'm sorry but I can only see a great servant to MFC, great leader who sets an example, and a wonderfully consistent player even when carrying injury.

As for turning games, a team needs to win first before that analysis is generally made.

Even last week though he was voted best player for MFC by the opposing coaches (reference 'Footy Classified')

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
