We need a bloody midfield too. We have an honest, hard at it, but ultimately one paced midfield, with no genuine line breakers, and no one who can hit those lace out passes to our forwards. Im starting to lean towards getting Daniel rich in the draft.

We have 1---- Aaron Davey.

We have plenty of young up-n-coming mids: Jones, Moloney, Mclean, Valenti, Grimes, Morton, Pettard + Bruce

I agree we could use 1 or 2 more very fast midfielders, but this is something that can be easily fixed through drafting. it's not a dire situation.

Simon Buckley could evn be part of the answer. We could easily draft a fast midfielder with pick 40. Plus Rich isn't even considered fast.

finding a key forward is a MUCH bigger concern. 10 years of drafting and the closest we'v come in Brad Miller. So if we're going to draft based on needs, Jack Watts is the man.

I'd be happy if we missed out on the big 3 (Naitanui, Watts & Rich) and got Hartlett.

All good players...think though that its harder to find gun KP forwards then it is midfielders.

FINALLY. Somebody who didn't just see the Vic Metro/WA game. Whilst I tend to agree with the majority on here that Watts looks to have a tremendous promise about him, I wouldn't be remotely upset if we ended up with Hartlett at all. The next Simon Black.

Buckley, the rest of his game is developing nicely. Ultimately we won't be succesful if we rely solely on high draft picks to develop our midfield, but I take your point. I am undecided about who to draft mainly because I haven't seen any of them play. If we get off the bottom (which now looks likely) we may have our choices narrowed but we need all of a ruckman, midfielder(s) and KPP so we can't miss!

Not sure about Petterd..........he could be an ace up our sleeve come time for the Gold Coast Team, we could trade him for one of picks when the time comes. So he can go back to Broadbeach. Moloney could be on thin ice.

But you certainly get a tick with Grimes, Morton, Buckley as part of the midfield answer.

And your correct on Jack Watts. We need him. They are a dime-a-dozen.

I'm really torn this year in regards to building the midfield first over taking a key forward. Anyone who has been reading my posts over the last 18 months will realise how desperate I want a power forward in the team but guys like Hartlett almost look too good to pass on.

We've picked a good year to be down, it's a good problem to have.

Diablo, from memory Hannabal is also big on Hartlett.

I recorded the Vic Metro- WA game last Wednesday, I am going to re-visit that game re: Hartlett. There was another from the Western Jets who looked ok too, who got best.

Hartlett comes from SA, hence the problem. He played against Tassie earlier in the day and cut them to ribbons. Admittedly Tassie aren't the best side in the comp, but he had a reasonable carnival according to those who saw it all, and has good raps coming out of the SANFL.

Obviously we should get a quality player as we'll have a pick inside the top 3, but really I'll be [censored] if we pass up on Watts and take a midfielder.

KP forwards >>>>> midfielders. Buckley is coming along nicely as an outside mid who breaks the lines, Flash can do it when he plays well and give Cale time, he'll be a star in a few years (He's obviously an outside player).

Ricky Petterd is gonna surprise you all I think.

Where is the class amongst these, who exactly in the Craig Bradley or Michael Voss or Nathan Buckley???

yes, Grimes will also be a star.

McLean, Jones, Buckley, Davey, Grimes, Petterd, Moloney, Morton... Bailey has a lot of talent at his disposal in the midfield.

And no doubt he will add a lot more this trade period and draft. Who knows, we may even end up with Daniel Rich.

It's a lot harder finding talented KPPs later in the draft, than it is midfielders.

Look at Franklin, Roughead, Reiwoldt etc.. they were all taken early. Hawkins was a F/S but would have been a top 10 pick otherwise.

But there are so many elite midfielders who were not first or even second round picks, which is why IMO we have to try and finally grab a decent key forward with our first pick.

Has to be Watts

Just picture out supposed premiership contender side in 2-3 years, who on Earth is going to be the one kicking all the goals? AT the moment our only contenders are Miller, Newton, Bate, Sylvia and Robbo - none of them can play the role

Of course we could use another good mid but this is MORE important

It's not so much "line breakers", but genuine class. Bartel, Selwood, Ling, Corey, etc aren't line breakers, although Ablett, Chapman and Wojinski have toe, but it's how they use the ball that makes them such a devastatingly quick team.

But you're right. We're last for a reason and our midfield is our major concern.

I'd still take Watts in a heart beat.

I totally agree. I would be disappointed if we got Naita I hope he proves me wrong but the last thing we need is another Jeff White. It has to be Watts or Rich.

We really need a CLASS midfielder who has pace, and more importantly good skills.

Mclean - Great all rounder, Has underrated kicking skills, tho prob our slowest midfielder

Jones - Absolutely tough, not smart enough, could learn a few things off bruce in regards to finding space, kicking into 50 is very questionable.

Moloney - See above

Sylvia - Has all been given up for a spot in the midfield.

Bruce - Finds the ball heaps but finds opponents heaps with his kicks. Has some smarts tho just lacks in polish.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
