Can Aussie win the rising star

He is leading our goalkicking and hasn't even played all the games this season, he is exciting, media journalists and commentators are in love with him and I think he is a bit of a cult figure at melbourne. I know these things don't get you the reward but for a young fella to come off the rookie list and lead your clubs goalkicking throughout the season is a huge achievement. I reckon he is getting the most out of his footy in a team that is going pretty average. Palmer from freo is the favourite at them moment but if Aussie keeps going like he is he has to be a chance

Short answer, No

There are a few ahead of him I think, and there along way too. Cyril for one

Either way you look at it he's far from "way ahead" of Wonaeamirri. And it's easier playing in a successful team than one struggling.

I think Houli or Palmer will win it, but Aussie will be close behind. I actually think he's overtaken Cyril in recent weeks...

Love to see Garland do well, but with all the Nathan Brown fanfare, he hasn't had a lot of recognition.

Cotchin and Ibbotson will be up there.

Wonna would need to pull out a few 6-7 goal outings to get him over, this is unlikely given that we are smashed most weeks.

If he kicked a few bags in the next few weeks, I would put some money on him for sure.

Not sure how they actually pick the winner but by far the best player of the draft last year is Cotchin. Has only played 4 or 5 games though so hasnt had the exposure like Rioli. Aussie appears to be getting better as the year progresses so you nver know. I reckon he is top 3 or 4 right now.

I think it's 9 judges give their 5,4,3,2,1.

That's how Rivs won with 45 votes, all in the last round because all gave him 5. From memory all gave Davey 4 as well

Palmer will win by a mile, like i've said since November,we should have taken him instead of Morton which no one agrees with me.

Wonna 21 goals

Rioli 14 goals from more games.

Palmer isn't as good as Morton will be. Yes he's had a great year but when you watch them play Morton has more footy smarts. His disposal will be fine and as he bulks up he'll surpass Palmer, who will also be a good player.

A panel will give their votes at the end of the season. Games played has no bearing as Mark Murphy won a couple of years ago, even though he only played about half a season after the Lions stitched him up.

There's no way Rioli is ahead of Wonna.

That's cos no-one cares. If the cliches are true Palmer will play his best footy before he's 25 (man's body), and Morton will play his best post 25 (teenage netball-player's body)... Trying to judge the selection of Palmer over Morton NOW is ridiculous. Palmer's season has gotten Fremantle exactly as close to a flag as Morton has anyway.

Wait 5 years and we'll have a clearer idea... Though I note that no-one has DISAGREED with you. You could be right, you could be wrong... the only thing that's for sure is you are NEITHER right now.

As for the rising star, Palmer would have to cop a big injury NOT to win it, a la Marc Murphy. And Wonna would need to kick 40-50+ goals... which means averaging about 4 for the last 8 weeks. Rioli has kicked 14 from 14, Wonna 21 from 12... Wonna ahead by a MILE.

My money is on Palmer, but I reckon Wonna would be comfortably second right now.

come off it mate!! palmer is just gunna be like paul hasleby all over again! lack of pace shockin kick yet gets a heap of the ball that turns it over. once morton gets a bit bigger he will become a damaging talent.

morton will be 10 times better!

Good post mate. I agree in part.

I think Palmer will win The Rising Star this season though. For him to in his first season to have such an impact and consistently pick up as many disposals as he does he will be hard to overlook.

Has Cale Morton been nominated yet?

No. Don't know how he didn't get nominated after his 2 gopal 22 possession effort V Geelong. Mind you its a joke Colin Garland didn't get it last week as well.

Wonaeamirri has been one of a few brights spots starting to emerge out of the sludge pit that has been 2008. He isn't close to Palmer for the Rising Star at this stage though. Nobody is.

There's a bit to like about Aussie however. He seems to put himself in the right spaces at the fall of the ball inside 50, which has been lacking since the Wizard's departure.

We must be watching a different Palmer. Im watching the one that gets tagged every week in one of the worst midfields in the league. He also certainly does not lack pace.

Statistically has had a better first year then Chris Judd and Joel Selwood to date.

I have to disagree. From what I've seen Palmer seems to be pretty quick. He is already a gun IMO. He will win the rising star easily.

Having said that, I know we have a good one in Cale Morton. He has more scope for improvement than someone like Palmer.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was
