Well this year is another of those Annus Horribilus types. For whatever reasons the QB Monday game didnt quite get up there. But it did highlight again that irregardless of ladder position this is one match not to miss.

With Mickey Mouse's mumblings and rumblings awakening a sense of ungency Paul Mac got it all sorted..well , at least he did his part well. Pert did his part too..lol

Now as a bonefide Mlebourne suporter it is my right..indeed my duty to despise and hate the Filth with a vengeance..Its ours for the doing but its generally done in the spirit of the game and a look over our shoulders at history.

It would seem there's a similar respect for this rivalry at the Lexus centre. In that spirit I say thanks for the leg up.

Yeah, I imagine we will be doing a fair bit of stuff around the QB blockbuster - McNamee is keen to create some 'marquee' games.

That's a massive amount of money for playing in Canberra. Considering our on-field state, it'd be better to sell off three now, rather than later...although that might be counter-productive in our push to consolidate and grow membership next year, on the back of what will be another poor year.

McNamee on the break-even point and stadium deals:

"I put three scenarios to them: either change the stadium deals, guarantee a break-even point, or move the matches," he said. "It's not acceptable to lose money on a home game and have to write out a cheque to the stadium with crowds of about 20,000."

He predicts a loss of as much as $75,000 when the Demons host the Eagles at the MCG in round 20, based on a forecast attendance of about 16,000.

Didn't the ACT minister for sport say he wouldn't fund more than 2 AFL matches there?

So i don't see us getting three unless we're persuasive, and will we have to fight the dogs to get the 2nd game away from them?

Also, if the ACT is already unsure about funding more games, i'm not sure how they'd go listening to hosting a Melbourne v West Coast game at Manuka which only gets 16000 to the game when it's in Melbourne, let alone in another state

The crowd sizes in Melbourne aren't a problem for Canberra - Manuka oval, even when it sets up the extra 'stands' (basically banks of portable chairs on the gravel behind the 'hill') it's maximum capacity is about 15,000. Most people who go to a Manuka game are just AFL fans desperate to see a game for it's own sake. Then there will be some West Coast (for example) fans who make the trip as part of a holiday visit to the capital, plus a contingent of Melbourne visitors, and then the local supporters of Melbourne and West Coast.

Canberra games against teams other than Sydney will struggle to get 10,000, sure, but not to the point of worrying the ACT government - the important thing for them is that people make a trip, stay in a hotel, and buy stuff. WC supporters and Melbourne supporters are much more likely to stay overnight or for a weekend than Sydney supporters who will be back home for dinner after the game.

Melbourne, which is $4.5m in debt and expects to lose between $1.5m and $2m this year, will net about $400,000 from the round 11 match at the MCG, which attracted just under 60,000."

That loss figure just keeps on going up.

I went down from Sydney to see the game on sunday. It takes about 4 hours so not exactly home for dinner, but close enough to after. I would not mind going again, had good seats
