I never thought I would meet David Neitz in person...

It happened today in Melbourne as we were both paying to leave a restaurant...

I had never planned for this meeting, so I found myself flashing my membership card, smiling stupidly, extending my hand and saying "thank you".

"No", Neita said, grasping my hand firmly, "thank you".

He walked off, leaving me bemused and wishing I knew what he meant.

(Mental note: make a plan for the next chance meeting with one of the team)...

I don't think I have met a nicer or more genuine bloke. Took time to speak to supporters at the game Sunday including my daughter and despite it all is still smilling.

He is such a legend. Genuine nice guy, and loves the supporters and the club. Sounds like a really good exchange, little things like that stay with you forever (even when the player doesn't remember!!)

Probably thanked you for being team manager of the only Demon team to win a game by over 100 points this year and for bringing back the Big Carl Cup to Demonland (and Demonology!)

I made a point of meeting Neita after the game against Hawthorn to say thanks.

When I did see him I said "Thanks for a great career and you are a legend"

Now most player would probably say thanks half heatedly and be on there way, but not Neita

He stop looked at me shook my hand and said “thanks mate that means a lot to me”

He then asked me what I thought of the game and if I played football, what possie and who I played for

I love this bloke and he is an absolute legend

Simlar story as mine at the Heroes dinner. When i saw him i started saying mate you're then just said look i won't bother because you probably hear it all the time, but you really are a legend of the club and thank you so much for everything. And very sincerely looked at me and thanked me very much

When I met Neita at a training session in early Janurary i asked him for his autograph which he happily obeliged to and then he asked me how my christmas was and what i did, he was incredibly polite and was the nicest bloke i spoke to at the training session.

Hey Rollo,

I've had several similar experiences with David both at the Gabba after match functions and at the 150 heroe's dinner. He is a humble champion.

I was hoping to catch you at the Dinner ?

Maybe you accidently paid his restaurant bill as well? :o

good to hear.

I was fortunate enough to catch up with some lads who where not playing during a match day function late last year.

Rivers is a champ, real genuine excitable bloke to have a beer with, a total gun. Davey was really forthcoming as well, Yze didn't want to know anyone and Matty Whelan wasn't looking too impressed with life either (I don't blame them who knows what they where dealing with at the time).

it's good to find out blokes you admire on field are genuine dudes off it as well.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
