Jack Watts - Confirmed #1 Pick in 2008 Draft - Booyah!!!

Kevin Sheahan last night on Fox Sports News was pumping up Jack Watts as a possible #1 pick after an impressive start to the U18 carnival kicking 4 goals for Vic Metro apparently.

He is a 194cm key tall from Brighton Grammar who hasn't played in the TAC all year because of injury.

Kevin sounded super impressed.

After reading the Herald Sun article about the effectiveness and worth of ruckman and from the way Kevin Sheahan spoke, i am now thinking about jumping off the NikNat ship and starting up the Jack Watts bandwagon.

A dominant key tall forward is more valuable than a dominant ruckman IMO.

And we seem to have a vacancy there for a key tall forward at present.

We should pick up Watts with pick 1 and Warnock with the 1st pick in the preseason draft.

1 problem, I doubt we will finish last now, pretty sure the bombers will pip us at the post there...

no go for Naitanui! this is a guy that will pull people to the games. remember buddy was a ruckman when he playing under 18s and now he is a power superstar forward.

Naitanui will be up there alongside buddy in years to come in freakish tall talents.

i think seeing as it is clear that we will not be contenders for at least 2-3 years we should continue to trade some older guys for more picks. My suggestion is trade Cameron Bruce, and maybe one of our 2nd round picks for another high first rounder.....at least i hope the take that approach. Im sure a collingwood or someone would love a cam bruce to help get them over that hump...

perhaps.

But even if we do jump a couple of ladder spots, we will still land one of Natanui, Rich, Hurley or this Watts guy (I know nothing about him though)

So we will pick up quality no matter what.

Wow 4 goals in a warmp up/practice match and all of a suuden he should be the number 1 pick........Naitanui is way ahead of any one else and is a lock to go at number 1.(anybody who has seen him play would agree with this this)

Here here.

You beat me to this one.

Bruce must be traded at the end of the year, before he has no value left to trade.

We missed the boat in trading Yze.

We shouldn't miss the opportunity to get something for Bruce.

Couldnt agree more.

The bloke is on 500K and gives us very little. Some team will be stupid enough to give up a 1st rounder for him.

I really hope Bailey will make the move, and I think he will.

I reckon Bruce would be a good fit at the Bulldogs. If we offer to pay his salary next year we could get their first round pick which will probably be around the 12 mark.

I would love pick 12 for a 29 year old Bruce.

if we finished bottom with less than 5 wins, that would give us picks 1, 12, 17 and 18

Fingers crossed.

Bruce or Green for a round 1 draft pick.

Do you reakon anyone would take jamar for an early third rounder? if we get warnock that is.

Can you trade your co-captain? If the footy department had trading him in mind surely they would never have considered him as co-captain? Trading your captain, stand in or not, could have some pretty serious ramifications around the place.

Dont get me wrong, I'd love to see him traded for the right price, even for a not so right price, certainly ahead of Green who I think should be retained (and should be stand in captain!), I just would of thought trading a captain would be totally off limits.

Teams are very reluctant to give up a first rounder but with Akermanis, Johnson and West near the end the Bulldogs will want to make the most of what is a very limited premiership window.

Bruce can do a defensive job, collect possesions in the middle or go forward and kick goals. He'd be a handy top up player for a team ready to have a tilt (or at least that is how we'll sell him).

Bruce and McDonald are really just interim captains. I don't think it would be a consideration.

Is Jack Watts any relation to Fergus Watts? I still reckon Daniel Rich is the go fellas. He is an out and out superstar midfielder, really can't go wrong. It all depends on the U/18 carnival though, a bunch of us should head down to casey fields or the dome to watch Nick Nat and Rich in action. Some time in July I think.

Getting rid of Bruce for a 1st rounder would be ideal, he's wasteful with the ball in his hands and at the moment his performances don't warrant what he is being paid. Can't believe we are still paying TJ...ridiculous.

Posted

Bruce won't warrant a first rounder, he'll be 29 years old no club will give their first pick up. Brad Green on the other hand might attract some interest. Jack Watts won't go 1 either, is stil a gun though.

I agree. If they did, I'd take it.

Jack Watts ...on the Dragons list...known his parents for years...was hoping he might get to Sandy but the AFL is well within his reach now...

buddy started in the ruck. then ran forward, marked the kick and kicked the goal. if it got to defence, he ran back there and played as a pseudo CHB. when buddy played at school, buddy played where buddy wanted.

Luke Darcy was pumping this kid up this week after watching him in the game on the weekend.

Apparenty he is one of the best junior basketballers for his age in the country, but has decided to play footy instead of taking up a college hoops scholarship.

charles shaw would be a steal as a third or fourth rounder...playing school football at the moment and trying to keep things quite...however, well built, racks up between 30 and 40 possesions each game, a leader and a red head...

watch this space...however, Natanui is the no.1 man for me

for what this is worth I played against Jack Watts for 5-6 yrs in juniors. Firstly to answer someones question he is related to Fergus Watts, I think they are cousins from memory. But anyway Jack Watts is a Jet. I cant remember what year, but he was playing in the ruck. At 3 qtr time my team was up by 5/6 goals kicking with the wind in the last on a miserable day where the heavens had completely opened up. In the last quater Jack Watts single handedly one them the game kicking 2/3 in the last having about 15 posessions, 3-4 tackles, and 2 smothers. He dominated. Remember it was pooring, and he was playing in the ruck. Dont know where in the draft he should go, but he is a good player.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
