Okay....where does the improvement come from?
Roger Mellie replied to jumbo returns's topic in Melbourne Demons
Tag Moloney and your three quarters of the way to beating Melbourne. I didn't see any improvement from Moloney in handling the tag. I didn't see any players blocking Beams or giving Moloney a hand. Didn't see any moves to shake the tag. If Moloney plays next week, he'll get Selwood and it'll be same old same old. -
No Nicholson in that line up

The Swans are a recycled player machine
Roger Mellie replied to Ron Burgundy's topic in Melbourne Demons
I like to think of this the other way around - like how have ex-Melbourne players fared in recent years at other clubs. While we can stretch the memory banks with Earl Spalding etc - in recent years ex-Melb players excluding the current years crop (jury out) have been somewhere between spuds to fringe players with the odd outright disappointment: Brockster Buckley Chris Johnson Paul Johnson Cameron Bruce Travis Johnstone Kyle Cheney Pia Miller's husband The last gun to leave the Dees was Scott Thompson (IIRC) I think we've fared well in retrospect with the ins and outs PS - Andrejs Everitt has not hit his straps at the Swans and that Irish kid looks just as bad at the Swans as he did at St Kilda (could be an absolute gun if only we played international rules) -
Huh? I was talking about Rory Taggert

I believe we have a few of those players already - such as Tapscott, Moloney, Clark and big Spencil; We have players who have it in them - Sylvia, Jetta, Trengove, Rivers We have players who play hard footy but are totally focussed on the ball and the game rather than taking out/owning an opponent - Bartram , Jones, McKenzie,; We have players who are good footballers but are none of the above - yet?
-
That's disappointing for Rory - I think he's gone from 3 or 4 weeks to indefinite

Anyone know what happened to Tom McNamara? That's not him playing for Williamstown is it? -
It looks like Peter Walsh

Liam Jurrah: charged, on bail and discussion closed for now
Roger Mellie replied to dee-luded's topic in Melbourne Demons
I don't think anyone is making light of the situation at all. You choose to believe the sky is falling in - I'd rather wait for the facts -
Loved the work of Magner. Also liked the games of Davis and Couch. Jack Fitz was impressive (note to JF - do not kick the ball)
-
Unfortunately he's up against it. He's in his 3rd year and yet to do a preseason.
-
WRONG - While some fall for Eddie's clap trap - he does not do the fixture (in spite of his rants to the contrary). Collingwood have an agreement with the MCC (endorsed by Vlad) to play 15+ games at the G. They cant all be home games. Each year we make certain requests for the fixture. One is that we have a home game v Collingwood on QB. The AFL have gone with it to date. The only thing Eddie Mc Bullyboy can do is request against this in 2013 - he cant demand it. We don't have exclusive rights to this day and neither to they.

Roger Mellie replied to demonoid's topic in Melbourne Demons
Dunn is flakey? Don't think so. He has his fair share of footy smarts and skill. I look forward to his year under Neeld as I don't think he'll get away with what he has done in the past. Edit - response to Ben H -

I believe Neville Jetta has been injured every preseason so far - that's 3 out of 3 I believe Luke Tapscott has been injured every preseason so far - 2 out of 2 I'm not sure who you're responding to, but they and others are worth a mention. -
Gysberts would be nice

You can add Evans to that list and Williams. Evans - post season surgery on hip (i think). Looks a way off Not sure what is wrong with Williams. McKenzie has an achilles issue

Great report thanks Dirty. How were the spirits of the ousted members of the leadership group? Is Martin rucking/playing forward or a bit of both? Cheers -
Leadership group announced; Grimes and Trengove co-captains
Roger Mellie replied to Striker475's topic in Melbourne Demons
Not sure about you but one thing I have noticed in the past, is that no Melbourne player has handled a tag - they never knew how to - hopefully that changes this year -
Leadership group announced; Grimes and Trengove co-captains
Roger Mellie replied to Striker475's topic in Melbourne Demons
Don't know if this has been mentioned earlier, but has anyone noticed the change in our relationship with the media very recently. When Gazza was at the helm the MFC was vault like - no press leaks, not one - just drummed up speculation by hack journos. Suddenly now Jay Clark from the Hun has been on the money - co-captains, announcement today about the captaincy, AGM & Jimma. Not suggesting a conspiracy theory - just interesting. Maybe they could replace the Age as shorts sponsors. -

So players know not to tackle him because of shoulder injury -
How would it work? Would mods shunt their posts to relevant player thread? I assume they would have to as posters usually ignore requests to get back on topic and continue to bang on about player x or themselves.

Mark Jamar – free agent end of 2012
Roger Mellie replied to Tyson4Brownlow's topic in Melbourne Demons
Listening to Jon Ralph on the radio today (don't think much of him but he made a good point) suggested that teams without salary cap room (ie Geel, Coll, Carl) would make hefty plays for players dangling post footy careers (ie outside the salary cap - Judd style). He suggested that such clubs have much greater resources in these areas than your demons, dogs, roos.
