  1. I think they'll pick Newton too. Martin's not cutting it as back up ruck, Spencer seems away off - good in the ruck but that's it. IMO, the preference would be for Campbell, but his injury may shunt him to the mid-year elevation or the next LTI
  2. Nice work eth. Would it be difficult to run both systems. Ie. DA's team v team and an overall points system? My understanding is that both require the same info (points per player)
  3. I dont see the point in putting injured players when they're not available: Bartram Warnock Rivers Grimes Garland MacDonald Scully Trengove Davey Petterd Green Dunn Jurrah Watts Maric F: Jamar, Moloney, Sylvia I: Jetta, Bennell, Jones Sub: Martin E: Bail Bate Spencer I'm trying to envisage what Bailey would do: Rivers not playing well but not likely to be dropped Ditto Jones Don't like Martin in the side and not wild about Spencer, but Jamar needs help Jetta and Maric have earned their spots. Bailey loves Bennell Wonna will be missed
  4. I cant see anything working other than a points per player per week (whether it be S-Coach, Dream Team or Fan Footy). Positional stuff and salary cap wasn't part of the draft so shouldn't enter into considerations (IMO - but always happy to penalise the likes of Riewoldt, Swan and anyone else not on my team). The big thing will be injuries which should be fine (for some). Anyway, with luck there's going to be more input so a decent system will evolve if there's interest
  5. Eth - if you're happy to run a spreadsheet, that would be great, but it's not my caper, so would be happy with whatever gets off the ground
  6. Probably whatever's easiest - the League would work everything out for you but probably wouldn't accept teams with only 18 players? Is that right?
  7. Ox, If you want to plough back through a few pages, there was a bit of interest. i assumed purely on a points per week basis - added up over the season. The critical factor would be injuries, as there's no opportunity to substitute - but that's OK - luck of the draft. Might be worth seeing what turns up. There may or may not be an easy way to set this up - hence the call to the computer savvy.

Is someone (with a computer clue) in a position to set up a super coach/dream team? It would be great to see how this pans out. Cheers
  9. Question for those at the game: 1) Where did Jetta play. Someone mentioned Maric and Jetta would be competing for the same spot but it sounds like Jetta played on ball (for some/all of the game. Can someone clarify? 2) I agree we had a second string team, but I have to say, I've barely heard of any of the Vegas players mentioned throughout the game (on this thread). Where was Brisbane's team on the full strength index? 3) Could Tapscott realistically edge out Strauss for Round 1. No offence to Strauss, but he seems to be a confidence player and his confidence is usually about zero. Comments appreciated
  10. They were against Moloney for holding (3 of them anyway). I'd appreciate your feedback on Bail too - thanks
  11. BB - I assumed the following: - There would be a ruck on the bench - It would not be worth taking a player who was a) on the decline (eg.Kerr/Cox) or so injury prone or struggling with injury it's hard to see them on the park too often (Higgins/Petrie)) - If a player has had injuries but is capable of getting back to their best, then they should not be written off eg Petterd with his shoulder reco - If a player is out of form, it is not necessarily permanent, but on the other hand there are players with talent who don't live up to their potential. - The player's potential within the new team. Eg. Gumbleton might be a player with half decent delivery into the forward line and decent support from his forwards These are just my own assumptions and how i rationalised my picks. I have no idea how you go about untried players although that was always going to happen with GC. I suppose with players like Petterd and Wonna, you just have to make a call
  12. The Champion Team B: C Newman (Rich) T Chaplin (Port) J Rivers (Melb) HB D Rich (Bris) S Fisher(St Kilda) N Krakoeur (GC) C R Douglas (Adel) K Jack (Syd) J Melksham (Ess) HF A Didak (Coll) J Roughead (Haw) R Murphy (WB) F M Le Cras (WCE) J Podsiadly# (Geel) E Betts (Carl) R T Goldstein (North( J Selwood *(Geel) D Mundy (Free) * Captain # Wildcard Pick 3 - Joel Selwood: I had only skimmed a couple of posts and didn't really know what this draft was about - just grabbed Selwood. In hindsight I would have done differently but could never be unhappy with him in my team. Gun midfielder and born leader. I have overlooked the experience of Chris Newman and gave the captaincy to JS. Pick 18 - Mark Le Cras. Killing 2 birds with one stone - snaring the premier small forward of the comp and avoiding a West Coast spud later in the draft. West Coast intend using him in the midfield in 2011. So will I. Pick 23 - Sam Fisher: Wanted a quality key defender that was just as good going the other way Pick 38 - David Mundy: Sensational 2010 saw him emerge as the top midfielder for freo. Will complement Selwood very nicely. Also versatile. Won the B & F Pick 43 - Jarred Roughead: Hunting for a key forward with Pick 43 and am happy with Roughead. Averaged 3 goals in 2010 despite goal kicking woes. I expect him to shine without Buddy in his way. Pick 58 - J Podsiadly: Geelong struck gold with J Pod. A proven goal kicker after just one AFL season. Will work well with Roughy Pick 63 - Chris Newman: OK starting to panic now about bottom of the ladder teams. Took Newman before the cupboard was bare. Solid, reliable backman who will relish playing in a backline that isn't bombarded. Pick 78 - Alan Didak: Personally I think he's a tool but his footy speaks for itself. 4th in the B & F in the premiership team. Couldn't go past him. Freak Pick 83 - Kieran Jack: A brilliant 2010 where he stamped his name on the game. My midfield is looking very strong. Won the Swan's B & F. Surprisingly, I found the depth at Sydney to be pretty good. Pick 98 - Troy Chaplin. I was happy to get him as my full back with this pick. Does the job. So regarded, he came second in Port's B & F Pick 103 - Eddie Betts. I'm starting to think I'm in small forward heaven with Le Cras, Didak and Betts Pick 118 - Daniel Rich. 2009 Rising Star winner. Had a quieter 2010 as did the whole team. I considered M Clark based on his 2009 given his 2010 season was largely ruined by OP. Pick 123 - Robert Murphy. I'd wanted Dale Morris for the back line but he was long gone as was Boyd, another consideration. I looked at Gilbee and finally went with Murphy. He had a good year after ongoing injuries. I took him for his versatility as a forward or back and because he can play tall or small. I also like Higgins but too injury prone. Getting very nervous about Essendon. Murphy backed up his year with a 5th in the B & F Pick 138 - Richard Douglas. Very happy to nab the 2010 B&F winner with this pick. He's a good defensive forward and tackling machine. He will also spend time in the midfield. Pick 143 - Jared Rivers. I wanted Garland, then Scully but settled on Rivers in the end (given I was short on defenders). His second half of 2010 was telling and while I'm sacrificing leg speed, I've got one of the best spoilers and last-line of defence, goal-saving, death defying markers of the game. Pick 158 - Jake Melksham. Let's face it - Essendon is a spudfest. I was more than happy to go with Melksham on what he showed in 14 games. He will be a gem in years to come. I didn't want to rule him out just because he's a second year player - considering Collingwood's youth contingency Pick 163 - Nathan Krakoeur. I need more speed and he has it. He's over his OP and doing a full preseason with the Suns. He hasn't been on the park too much but the talent and skill of the Krakoeur cant be taken lightly. I've seen enough to know he will excel and so have Gold Coast. Still up there with the record holders for the 20m sprint. Pick 178 - Todd Goldstein. Like High Tower, I knew I could leave him until my last pick as only High Tower needed a ruckman and had used his North pick. Very happy to have him. He went past McIntosh in 2010 and presents as a quality ruckman. Can and does go forward to boot. 7th in the Roos B&F Backs - Solid backline without being stunning. I expect some creativity from Fisher, some rebound and speed from Krakoeur and that left foot of Rich as the icing on the cake. The weakest area of the team but not a pushover by any means. Can switch Murphy, Mundy and Roughead back as needed. Very happy with the keys. Mids - There's no weaknesses here. I'm completely sold on the Selwood, Mundy, Jack core with cameos from Le Cras, Douglas, Didak and gradually Melksham. Goldstein caps it off after a break-out 2010 Forwards - I've said it before, I'll say it again - small forward heaven in Betts, Le Cras, Didak plus the defensive pressure of Douglas and the goal kicking machine J-Pod. Roughead will give 3 goals a game and potentially more if he finds the big sticks Five B&F winners in my team - Selwood, Mundy, Douglas, Le Cras and Jack (Chaplin 2nd and Murphy 5th) = FORM!
  13. 'and the brilliant Fevola looks set for a big season' Is he even running yet? Nice team, nice spin!
  14. The Roger Mellie Spin Champion Team: Defence - solid and unspectacular. I like both Fisher and Chaplin as the keys. Was aiming for Garland as the 3rd tall depending on the opposition. I had to settle for Rivers with some reluctance. I though his first half of 2010 was horrendous but improved out of site in the second half. Also aimed for Pears earlier but was pipped by about 2 picks. Always happy with his spoiling efforts and fearless, last lines of defence marking. Rich will bounce back from the second year blues and unleash some lethal kicking. Krakoeur missed a bit of 2010 but happy enough with his dash out of defence. Fisher can go forward at a pinch and Murphy can switch to defence as needed Mids - J Selwood, Mundy, Jack - cant argue with that. Jack capable of tagging as needed Can rotate through the midfield Le Cras, Douglas and increasingly Melksham. Essendon are awful - so I took Melksham, who I rate (inside and outside)and could not exclude from a GF side just because its his second year. Douglas - B & F winner at Adelaide - there as a mid/forward and noted for his defensive pressure up forward (a tackling machine) Very happy with the forwards and I hope Roughead will tear it up out of Buddy's shadow. As far as positions go - they are roughly in place but I would never expect a side to play in the positions named - particularly these days At the very least Didak, Douglas and Le Cras would all swap with each other. Murphy would play tall or small, forward and back. Misses: Pav, Garland, Pears, using pick 3 on Selwood Hits: 2011 Premiership Cup

  17. I think it would almost be worth revisiting at the end of the year to give a preseason winner and a post season winner - bringing hindsight, injuries and form into the picture! Immensely enjoyable and surprisingly gripping - many thanks
