  1. Let's put it this way....if you knew we were going to finish 17/18 in 2020 would you have done the trade? FWIW I'm ok with the trade but in typical MFC mode nothing ever quite works out to plan
  2. I suspect that is the last scratch match we will see. They weren't the best but they were better than nothing
  3. Big difference between 65 and 90. 33 players and 32 support staff sounds about right. As I understand it, clubs were allowed 50 people plus players at a game which apparently was enough to allow a few Board members (Edie everywhere springs to mind)
  4. GWS v Hawks game had a crowd. Not sure what the maximum number is. Strange thing was the broadcaster still used the canned crowd noise. GC v Dees .... probably cost too much to open the ground
  5. So AFL have been in NSW for forty years and we can't find a spare oval... Think on it
  6. My guess is that the NSW border will be closed for a minimum of two months. That assumes a month to get on top of the virus numbers and then a month of verification and political manouevering. (Early reports suggest nearly 200 cases for Melbourne today). You would have to think that if there's a risk of a break out in another State it's NSW which would complicate things. And of course there's still the Essendon catch up match to play.
  7. I always have a second team in which I take an interest. At the moment it's the Giants. Over the years it has included Collingwood, North and the Eagles. The team has to be exciting and offer a genuine premiership chance. While it doesn't help with dealing with the frustration of being an MFC supporter it enables me to maintain an interest in AFL when our season comes to an early end ...which is often
  8. Quite enjoyed the Austrian Grand Prix over the weekend. The countryside surrounding the track was jaw droppingly gorgeous. Oh to be having a strudel in Vienna
  9. It's melancholy times and following the MFC does not help. Did not expect our season to be effectively over so quickly. Was it wrong to be quietly relieved when our game against Essendon was cancelled. Like the virus there seems to be no way out until we find the magic vaccine. Quietly planning a trip to Tunisia and Pakistan for when times are normal. Whenever that might be
  10. We may well beat the Suns but it will be a false dawn. Weideman in for someone and O Mac in for Smith Care factor is pretty well zero May as well get Jones to 300 and improve Bennell so we can offer him a fat contract and... well we know what will happen
  11. You beat GWS by scrapping and playing the boundary.... see North v GWS If you take them on they will take you apart Every line packed with skill
  12. The signs were there last year with his handpassing. In the irrelevancy of the second half of last season a good coach would have worked on that but ... well we don't have a good coach
  13. Well I did open the changes thread last week with the comment that we should not play Lever and Smith in the same backline. I got howled down Time to find an interest in another sport for the season
  14. 1-4... we are alive..just 1-5.... no chance
  15. The bright side is that because our Essendon match was postponed this is not season ending.... yet
  16. Richmond checking out for the day after our regulation loss
  17. Unfortunately there is little transparency by any of the clubs in how their membership numbers are calculated. To a State government it makes little difference whether they pay money or buy memberships so many clubs would be in the same boat to some degree. For businesses it gets a little more complicated due to fringe benefits tax and non deductibility of entertainment expenses.
  18. no way six on the bench unless three were subs The key is trialling it in lower level comps(and of course the AFL defunded the VFL) Must say I liked the Suns colours. Absolutely clear from Geelong. Even the North Bulldogs contrasts were not as clear distinction wise
  19. you can just see that bus warming up outside the MCG so they can hightail it to Albury. I hear there's a local Council there that loves Victorian It does have a certain air of ridiculousness about it On a more serious note my heart goes out to those people in heavy lockdown. They are among the most socially disadvantaged people in our community. It will be a frightening experience on so many levels
  20. the general employment rule is that you cannot be asked to go interstate. Many employment contracts have clauses saying you may be required to travel from time to time which varies this. Few contracts have a compulsory relocation contract. Five weeks in a hub would almost certainly be a breach of contract so the player would be entitled to full payment.
  21. West Coast saving its season against the Swans Back in WA for the next 4-5 weeks at least on front of home crowds could see them firmly back in the eight.
  22. Thanks.... perhaps it just removes the ads There is perhaps room for some young wannabes to provide commentary off the TV via digital streaming. Cannot see that describing what you are watching on a TV screen would be in breach of copyright laws.
  23. mmmm that is because it's coming via the AFL website which causes further delay As you say Kayo seems like the only answer. You can get the foxtel commentary on kayo by using a Kodi add on. It's discussed on the whirlpool forum but I haven't tried it. Share your distaste with the FTA commentary
  24. Ah Blacktown.....site of one of Australia's most famous political speeches. It's Time by Gough Whitlam at the Blacktown Civic Centre Very appropriate location for the MFC given that we have spent longer in the wilderness than the Labour Party had in 1972
  25. The radio signal is analogue (much faster) while the TV is digital. The difference can be anything up to 20 seconds and sometimes more. There is a fix if you can be bothered. Buy a digital radio or connect to the radio through your phone. Using the pause button on the radio you can synch the radio commentary to the TV visual. As the digital radio signal is slower than the analogue you may just luck into a reasonable synch anyway. A cheap bluetooth speaker can be added to improve the audio quality of your phone if desired.) Each time you turn off the radio you have to do it again unfortunately. (In the summer I listen to the cricket on a portable analogue radio with the TV muted. You only have to look at the screen if something interesting is happening as you potter around. The difference in the timing is enough to allow a fast bowler to do a complete run up and bowl the ball. For a spinner you can even be two balls in front of the picture.)
