Fixture 2020 (COVID Edition)
If the State Government had been a little more pro-active we could have based some teams in country Victoria. The biggest problem would have been air connectivity but with the boost that it would have given to the regions the State gov't could have picked up that tab. Instead we have allowed Anna to declaim Qld as the "safe haven". Mildura, Wang and Albury would have made great hubs along with Wagga and perhaps Renmark.

NON MFC: Round 07
yep....like newspapers the club is slowly dying OD. We're there to make up the numbers these days. Going to be hard times for a few clubs post 2021 and the power clubs will show their teeth. Kennett has already had a go.

GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Hawthorn
Assuming a loss against Brisbane this is pretty well our season defining game. If we lose the next two we will 2-5. Assuming you need 9 games to make the eight we would need to maintain a 70% win rate from there on in or in other words a 7-3 winning record. That Geelong loss really screwed us.

That loss means it's the season over for the Swans. Same for North if they lose to Richmond. Freo v WC is a bit of a cut throat final as well. Wouldn't do our slim chances any harm if Adelaide could knock off St Kilda

Dees on Brink of Another Trade Disaster
May probably needs to play for another five to six years to make the trade worthwhile. Full backs have traditionally had great longevity. Fingers crossed.

Ablett going home to Geelong for 2 weeks due to injury. Not sure how that works when he tries to return to a hub. Being in Geelong may make it easier but Greater Geelong could easily be added to Melbourne in this lockdown. Given the degree of commuting between Geelong and the CBD I was surprised they weren't included in some form.

NON MFC: Round 07
Just heard on 3aw that Bruce calls from Adelaide with BT in Melbourne and the boundary rider Hodge in Brisbane. No wonder it's so bad. I thought Hodge was both underutilised and underwhelming. Calls out for local commentary but as many have mentioned Ch 7 seems to think that the callers are the stars !!! Surely WA has excellent commentators for example as would SA. PS.. was watching the Hungarian GP practice session. Track nowhere near as scenic as Austria. Whoever was mixing the sound had no idea.Commentators could hardly be heard over the cars. My natural reaction is to turn up the sound and well.... that didn't work. Hope they fix it for qualifying tonight.

NON MFC: Round 07
Time we had some "truth in broadcasting" 1. Location of commentators 2. Crowd noise.... real or supplemented And while we're at it gt rid of Bruce and BT. Bruce has notes a la his old Olympic days about favourite players. It's boring. I don't need them to tell me "he kicks the ball forward" etc etc

TEAMS: Rd 07 vs Hawthorn
Good analysis by Binman above. This selection only makes sense if we are going to play Gawn forward a lot more and use Jackson in the ruck for extended periods. If it works it will be a selection masterstroke

Fixture 2020 (COVID Edition)
The R factor is a little illusory but in simple terms it's a measure of infection progression. If Victoria had a R factor of 1.5 we would be in big trouble in a short while. At an R rate of 1.1 a thousand cases becomes 25000 cases in 60 days https://www.weforum.org/agenda/2020/05/covid-19-what-is-the-r-number/ By lockdowns you depress the R rate simply by limiting the exposure each infected person has to others. Without lockdowns the R rate of this virus is estimated to be between 2-2.5 and by some as high as 6.(enormous numbers) BTW measles has a R rate much higher than this virus but vaccines prevent infection. Stay safe all.

NON MFC: Round 07
Another low scoring game. It was wet so a slight excuse but the absolute dominance of defences and the seemingly constant out of bounds is so boring. Add to that the commentary that can even get excited over a rolling maul and........

Fixture 2020 (COVID Edition)
Must say I'm not sure that the season needs to be rushed. We have hubs and we have a relatively clear way forward. Rolling byes and games every night just kill season momentum from a fan perspective I can see the advantages of shortening times in the hubs but it's starting to resemble a desperation run rather than being simply agile. GF clashes with the Cox Plate etc are largely irrelevant as the GF will be played at night/twilight interstate and the Cox Plate can be run earlier if needed as the Asian racetracks will probably be shut.(Whether the good horses will come is also questionable.) There's some promising news on vaccines in the Age. They have found the T cell.... (fingers crossed.)

If I was Tassie I would be a little upset about paying Govt money for those two matches. Would have expected games between Melb teams this year
