  1. Seems that the Grundy subsidy was circa $250k whereas it was certainly spoken of as $500k at the time. If we can offload Oliver at $325k per year take it and run UNLESS you think he gets 100% better form wise in 2026 (unlikely). The Petracca deal is much harder to do but we know how it's going to end. Mediocre Melbourne is back big time. Boy it was a short ride at the top.
  2. Funny you mention Deep Purple... I heard an ad for them playing in Asia while I was there. Got me thinking as to whether there were any original band members left. According to Wikipedia we are now up to version 6 or thereabouts of the band. Got far too complicated for me. Is there anyone left?
  3. Surely he's not on more than $600k. That's easily digested by most clubs and I suspect he'd take 2 x $400k from a new club. Something needs to be done with our "contracts" process. There's just too many bad deals.
  4. I don't think we're being offered that good a deal. I'm sensing $500k or thereabouts
  5. Not seeing the logic of both paying a significant chunk of his salary and taking a worthless draft pick. Suppose it comes down to dollars but what a haircut
  6. When Grundy moved to the Swans the Pies made noises along the lines that the deal to pay part of his salary died if he left the MFC. This suggested that we had signed Grundy for the full amount and separately Collingwood agreed to pay MFC the greed annual supplement. Anyway Collingwood backed down and all was sweet. The "learnings" for the lawyers is that this time the contracts will be tighter. My guess is that the player looks only to one source for payment and that the supplement is an inter club arrangement. To do otherwise would be messy from an income tax/payroll tax/insurance/discipline viewpoint
  7. Perhaps they could change the song from the cringeworthy prayer to the star spangled banner. Banshees... ,maybe
  8. Just not seeing the value proposition in trading CP for picks unless we want to clear the books and handle the Oliver and Brayshaw shortfalls. The money savings are nice but with Tasmania in 2027 having both draft picks and signing bonus money we will have difficulty attracting a 25 year old star at end of 2026 with the money. No Oliver or CP will also hit the membership/attendance figures. MFCSS is very much alive
  9. I'm starting to like that guy, Chad Powers Go Catfish !!
  10. He had no idea that MFC were interested. He'd been playing down back in the Reserves and was not starring whereas he had played his junior football up forward. He definitely would have gone because at the time we weren't a bad team. It was circa 2000. It was a different time. Things were much slower and trade season wasn't a real thing. Now days the manager can sign for the player.
  11. How does Hipwood fit into that side with Allen, Morris and Gallop. Surely one misses out
  12. Do we know if WC would take him? We really need to get them into the picture. Had we achieved this with LJ the deal could have been so much better. We could of course let it be rumoured that if WC doesn't pick him up in the PSD we will. Can't see Judd standing out for 12 months
  13. Players can't be traded in the AFL without their consent. At least they don't need to physically sign their trade papers anymore. True story.. A player's father told me that a manager did a deal to trade him to Melbourne but as the player was bush camping (early mobile days) he couldn't be contacted to sign and fax the papers. So we missed and the player went on to play in a premiership with his existing club.
  14. Attendances aren't important for TV money which is where it's all at. NRL are about to re-negotiate their media rights deal. My guess is that for the first time they will equal if not exceed the AFL deal.
  15. The NRL GF outrated the AFL GF by around 10% 4.46M to 4.18M. Definitely a message there to the AFL. The NRLW GF had 1M viewers compared to last years AFLW GF with 354k https://www.theage.com.au/sport/nrl/nrl-beats-afl-as-grand-final-sets-tv-ratings-record-20251006-p5n0dc.html
  16. I think we're heading to a payout with May. You don't go through this type of virtual delisting and come back happy. Tom Mac went through a similar delisting a few years back but nothing like this one
  17. He's a required player = He has my full support as leader of the Party
  18. Sad indictment of Casey when you're considering VFL Park. The training ground saga continues If we were an NFL team we could have a few helicopters and use Gosch's as a pick up point. Where's old Reg Ansett when you need him
  19. Doing the "how many of our best 23 would get a game in a top 8 side" I would have difficulty coming up with say 12 players. In the back six Bowey Turner and Rivers Midfield.. Gawn, Petracca, Oliver, Langford Windsor and Lindsay Forward: Kozzie Fritsch You could make a case for a few more such as Viney, Melksham and Salem but each only has 1-3 years left. Lever is an unknown. TBH I have no idea as to the correct answer posed by the question in the thread title. I like what Richmond has done but I'm not sure it's the answer to our dilemna
  20. Underwhelming win on one of our bigger stages.
  21. Do they still have that Draft show on TV that they try to keep a few deals back for. We could be big in that hour or so. Could do wonders building the Brand Barbecued Bugs on the Beach with a dash of Pernod perhaps
  22. Agree (bottom 6 maybe) Last draft before Tassie. Low picks will carry a premium and who knows how they will tighten up the Northern Academy rort
  23. and of course a ten year deal !!!
  24. There was ample precedent for the AFL allowing concussion settlements to reside outside the cap. We were ambushed with a change in policy... that's our complaint
  25. As an aside we need to lobby hard to get Gus' contract outside the salary cap. We really got done over on that one.
