I've become a believer in compulsory trading such as the NFL. The only thing is if you're traded interstate you get a one off resettlement allowance of say $150k. Academies should be run by the AFL and players should go into the normal draft. Father sons are nice but they can distort the system. Not sure how you can keep them going unless you limit them to say second round and below picks. That makes the superstars available to everyone. Free Agency probably deserves a tweak. Richmond, Essendon, and Eagles spending the next five plus years at the bottom while Tasmania raids the draft pool isn't great for the competition.

One of the worst games of the round looks like being the only close one. Richmond showing that the draft without being able to get in name players as well is a tough route

Agree Depending on weather I'd change the balance. One too many talls if not two. Petty back and TMac rested. AMW in place of Salem. No reason to punish Gawn in a losing match. Bring in Heath as back up. If we can win two quarters next week it's a good result

Plus with the State of Origin carnival weekend (we know it's coming) the Season is almost non stop. But what about Indigenous All Stars etc you say. States with their "Event" budgets are a big source of revenue. You can feel the tension re Gather Round as to how many dollars SA is willing to offer compared to the other States such as WA. Nothing to stop Victoria bidding for the Wild Card games but I don't see it.

All sports sell their games these days. NFL, F1, EPL... you name it. The Olympics and the Soccer World Cup are sold to cities. Hawthorn are desperate to keep selling games to Tasmania after the Devils join. Melbourne purchased the GF. Add in the Wildcard Games being limited to pay TV and sold to a one off seller and you have the new model

In the Collard homophobic slur case the AFL are asking for a ten week suspension rather than a ten match ban. Reporter says he doesn't understand why the distinction. Obviously never heard of the VFL excessive bye policy. Adelaide really needs this win if they're to challenge for top four. They should win easily (40-50 points) First quarter should be a good watch Would be nice for 186 to be eclipsed by the magical 200 but Blues aren't that bad

Needless to say there have been books written on the ticket selling industry. No system has ever been perfect and a computerised selling system with windows open for such short periods is complex to say the least. If it means anything we're a lot better off than USA where scalping is legal. Just have a look at sites like StubHub and Viagogo. And yes there are programs run by large subsellers that give them priority. Would they have been operating in a one off event like this. Who knows. One thing is that there would be a large number of tickets sold to tour companies. The international and interstate demand for this game is quite high
