  1. Casey ground could do with a decent long term tree planting scheme. The grass verges behind the goals are pleasant (albeit no shade or wind protection) but the rest of the ground is pedestrian to say the least.
  2. the first four rounds will remain as fixtured.... then it goes to the remaining 13 games One of our first four rounds is interstate. Luckily revenue wise none of them are big crowd draws as they are unlikely to have physical crowds. The fifth scheduled game is the Suns in Qld (??) and then our financial test ??? Tigers on Anzac Eve. Cannot see that one being taken away from us. After that who knows
  3. A 17 round season does us no favours given the biased draw we attracted due to our terrible 2019. so that is no second game against... Suns, Freo Saints Pies and Adelaide..3 of those are potentially interstate so hopefully we lose them rather than the home fixture.
  4. Haven't heard anything from the broadcast rights holders. Not sure they would thrill to compressed seasons etc and would certainly have their hand out for a discount as would sponsors etc etc. Personally I'd move the whole league to say Alice Springs and play in a virtual bubble for the next six weeks. There's a nice big and very secure defence facility just outside Alice that would welcome them all. Thought the way they ditched the AFL "to cut costs" (Eddie's words) was a little cruel.
  5. Not sure that AFL football played in front of zero crowds is any more dangerous than a multitude of workplaces not to mention schools, hospitals etc. If the players want to call it off fine...but it's leave without pay. You can't scream professionalism and then say it's only a game when it suits. Harsh but true. On a somewhat related note how dumb is Queensland insisting on holding its council elections the week after next and fining people if they don't vote !!
  6. Fascinating read.... A vaccine....perhaps next year... https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/mar/15/when-will-a-coronavirus-vaccine-be-ready-human-trials-global-immunisation It’s for these reasons that taking a vaccine candidate all the way to regulatory approval typically takes a decade or more, and why President Trump sowed confusion when, at a meeting at the White House on 2 March, he pressed for a vaccine to be ready by the US elections in November – an impossible deadline. “Like most vaccinologists, I don’t think this vaccine will be ready before 18 months,” says Annelies Wilder-Smith, professor of emerging infectious diseases at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. That’s already extremely fast, and it assumes there will be no hitches.
  7. FWIW I find this interest in these young people unhealthy. Let them grow and if they happen to come our way.... embrace them. Moreover... best of luck in whatever they pursue
  8. PM just announced a NZ type travel ban. All arrivals from overseas required to self isolate. What it means in practice.... who knows
  9. Has there been a credible explanation as to how Italy has ended up with 21,000 cases of CV. After China with 80,000 it is so far above the numbers in other countries. Good news is that China cases are down to between 10 and 20 a day so there's some light at the end of the tunnel.
  10. sorry I didn't realise the ban had hit the Alice. Stay safe to you and your family RG
  11. Definitely worthy of a cood a beens rendition !!!
  12. by the look of the TV coverage there were more people in your car than at the ground. Out of interest why did you not go inside?
  13. See on the AFL site that some clubs are thinking of cutting their VFL players loose for the season due to CV. Would be very disappointing if that happens and it could hasten the end of what is already a highly compromised competition. https://www.afl.com.au/news/385050/no-vfl-latest-developments-on-the-coronavirus-crisis
  14. I remember reading an article on how the Hawks were financing Dingley and there was not much debt as I recall it. Could it send some clubs to the wall? Who knows but if you look at the MFC and remove the gate takings from Anzac Eve and possibly QB it will take a long time to recover on top of the losses of 2019. Bigger clubs like Collingwood will take it in their stride. If it is followed with a drop in the TV revenue it could be the perfect storm. Perhaps we will see the end of GCS?
  15. Possibly but the incremental increase in viewing numbers (equal to ground viewing numbers) wouldn't be that great. If anything the neutral viewing numbers may go down.
  16. Good luck was wondering how you were faring
  17. Statistically one player in the comp is almost certain to get infected in the next two weeks. That puts that team out. What happens to the points etc relative to the rest of the comp. Get ready for the first five rounds or so to be declared null and void along with the resultant outcry
  18. Max is a useful player and in his role one of the best. Unfortunately his role is of declining relevance in the modern game. Grundy is his equal but there would be real debate at the Pies who is their most valuable player
  19. it's okay though he just announced he's going to the football tomorrow (assumes he means NRL)
  20. Agree.. the mere fact that it is being debated demonstrates how disappointing Weideman has been.
  21. so what games will thrive in this new world order. Solo darts perhaps?
  22. you have to love F1 race is cancelled but it's us taxpayers who look like footing the cancellation bill while the mega bore that F1 has become marches along. It really is a sport for dictators ... AFL on the other hand !!!
  23. Sense but if you are arguing TV coverage the faster the game the worse the TV coverage unless they give viewers control of the TV coverage
  24. not sure that AFL exactly ranks as a national priority
