Farewell Luke Jackson
yes but many of us thought that it was his management saying that his next 2-3 year contract would be higher. Most players max out contract wise in year 5. We were badly blindsided

Farewell Luke Jackson
Must say this thought has entered my mind. I suppose the difference is that JFH is contracted for another year. If this fiasco has taught us anything I hope we sign Kozzie soon !!

Adam Tomlinson on the move?
So if we picked up $300k over that period the recipient club would be paying $300k per year and would release around $700k salary cap space over the next two years. Makes sense PS Hold on...he only has one year ????

Adam Tomlinson on the move?
Assuming a salary of $500k would you pay $150k pa for 2 years to move him on

Farewell Luke Jackson
Freo never had any intention of offering anything remotely looking like a fair trade. They assumed WCE would stay out of play due to contract value and because Jackson had not been directly approached by the Eagles. Could we have played it better by sending clearer messages...who knows

Training Ground?
Off leash dog park and "the Corroboree Tree" in the immediate environs plus being in the City of Yarra Worth a look though

Farewell Luke Jackson
Freo won't crater beyond 10th. They play the Eagles twice and even if they win 70% of their home games plus one or two on the road that 9-12 wins.

Farewell Luke Jackson
A motley collection of mid range picks for a generational pick 3. I know we will be screwed but please let's not sugar coat it Come on down Eagles !!!

Hawks racism allegations (merged thread)
Seems that a few of the impacted families aren't happy with the AFL tribunal https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-10-05/afl-announces-panel-for-investigation-into-hawthorn-allegations/101503386 Responding to news that Bernard Quinn KC will chair a panel including barristers Tim Goodwin, Julie Buxton and Jacqualyn Turfrey, a member of one of the families interviewed by ABC Sport and for the Hawthorn review said she had been caught unawares by the announcement. A member of another of the Hawthorn families said: "Nobody from the AFL has communicated with us at all on anything". She said her family had also been rocked by media reports claiming that former Hawks coach Alastair Clarkson, who has denied allegations against him, may commence his coaching duties at North Melbourne before the completion of the investigation.

Farewell Brodie Grundy
Pick 21 which some were saying we might get from GWS in return for Bedford and pick 27 is going to the Lions. So unless we use part of the Jackson trade... 27 is all there is
-
Farewell Luke Jackson
For the afficianados who is the likely pick 2 and which club has 2 first rounders Geelong at 7 and 18 comes to mind

Jack Bowes Salary Dump
Is this the GCS that was screaming for priority picks. Time to close that club down
-
Whitfield & Haynes on the trade table?
Whitfield was in the top 10 if not top 5 of the league 3 plus years ago. Not anymore. Signed a 7 year deal at the end of 2019. Would be $800k plus pa. Salary dumping is beginning to become the norm. $600k would be tempting

An All Lawyer panel why does this not surprise me

Farewell Luke Jackson
This is the key Ruckmen rucking is irrelevant. It's what else they can do. No team can carry a second ruck who does not demand a top 22 position somewhere else on the ground

The underground basilica... I like it Virtual windows City of the future... (might get funding)

Michael Hibberd & Jake Melksham set to sign 1 year contract extensions
Yawn.... I suppose it makes sense but disappointing that the younger brigade haven't pushed them out. Reminds me a little of Jordan Lewis in year 3. Better than all the Rest
-
Farewell Pick 27
Second half second rounder plus Pies to pay $400k per year. (This is the deal I would do) Pick 27 and Pies to pay $300k plus Grundy to take a $50k pa pay cut is close enough Hell... I hope he's fit

Farewell Luke Jackson
No Just before the apologists argue that a North future second is almost a future first
-
Farewell Luke Jackson
Perhaps they thought the contract money would scare WCE off and we would be left with no choice. It has certainly been less than satisfactory on their part
-
Farewell Luke Jackson
West Coast will be laughing Freo have nothing to trade unless they are prepared to give up a top five player. WCE will split its second pick into say 7 and 10 and we will end up with one of those and WCE's future first. (Not great) The only comfort I will take is that Freo who fanned the flames will end up burnt

Hawks racism allegations (merged thread)
I think the AFL showed us what they thought of external tribunals in the Essendon cover up/ saga. The terms of reference for any inquiry would be a nightmare to agree. I suspect they will be preliminary at best in the sense that they "will look into it" to see what aspects require deeper scrutiny and specific answers. In other words it wont be was there conduct unbecoming but more like was there actions that might in the absence of further evidence reasonably be considered unbecoming. Add to that the usual tendency for mediation and we might end up with apologies, volountary submission to cultural awareness training and perhaps the funding of an appropriate support group. And are there 3/4 groups of complainants or over 15. Not impossible to deal with it before Christmas as Kennet has suggested but probably unlikely PS On a separate but related note there are now murmurings about the appropriateness of removing indigenous boys from their homes and relocating them to upmarket private boarding schools on football scholarships. "The patterns of alleged behaviour at Hawthorn are also at play when well-meaning whitefellas take it upon themselves to “rescue” a First Nations kid by opening the doors to some of Australia’s most elite schools and colleges. Done right, a boarding school education can be empowering and life-changing, in the best ways, for First Nations students. Done wrong, it can wreak untold harm. Many of the young people and parents with whom I worked describe how they experienced or witnessed abuses of power during their time at boarding school. Whether generated by malice or the best of intent, the consequences for the young person were equally damaging." https://www.theage.com.au/national/boarding-school-coercion-mirrors-hawthorn-racism-allegations-20220929-p5blxu.html
