Will present interesting scenario for the recruiters, we aren't really in need of Boyd while plenty of other clubs are so we may have a few options trade away one of the top picks for a ready to go mid and a later pick, while we use our other top pick on another future mid take the best two young available players with early picks trade both picks with clubs who finish higher up the ladder for a ready to go mid & their first round pick, giving us two players for 2014 & beyond & two young first rounders for 2015 & beyond who knows always a fine line in knowing what to do but would be pretty sure Freo, Lions, Port, Dogs, Blues & Hawks (if Buddy goes) would like to get their hands on Boyd!

SONS - I seen him play earlier in the year for Subiaco and he was okay, not outstanding but just did the simple thing. I didn't think much of it at the time but when I think about it he made no mistakes and IMO it shows poise for a young man playing in the seniors. He wont play seniors now until after the championships so will be interested to see him again. I couldn't make the 18's game at Lathlain today due to other commitments hopefully a few of the other WA based Demonlanders got there today to see who shined!

I'm not advocating JK I have stated before I'm waiting to see the Ticket and what they propose (although well aware of promises and fanfare), I am not against somebody who is from another club coming in and taking over if it is for the benefit of the club. I think Jeff and those of similar ilk would be professional enough to perform the role to the best of their ability. Sheedy was a through and through Tiger but changed the culture of the Bombers and made them into a pwerhouse on field, David Parkin is he referred to as a Hawk or a Blue (was in fact a Dees fan growing up). I may be wrong on this but Checker Hughes didn't he come to us from the Tigers and set about changing our culture. Furthermore is he not the man who made us the Demons from the Fuschia's. All I'm saying is as we look as a club do move forward, don't be afraid to think outside the square and embrace change

BH you do not know me from a bar of soap and the same goes with my knowledge of you, barring what I read on this forum so lets not get personal. I do not know Jeff from a bar of soap either but I know a lot of politicians and although I vote Liberal I trust none of them, have worked with many of them over the years and see through a lot of them, but they are a necessary evil. All I know is whatever Jeff's or other candidates faults I will see what they bring to the table before I declare who my preferred choice is. Jeff has plenty of positives and there are also possible pitfalls if he comes on board, but IMO we would be foolish not to listen if his intentions are genuine

I think what Fans are saying Tony is play games in Casey against GWS, Suns, Port, Freo & Meth Coast where we don't actually draw big crowds. I think we need to think alternatively to survive, entrench ourselves in a growing area with a guarantee from the AFL of our 11 home games a year 6 or 7 are at the G against clubs who draw a big crowd 2 to 3 at Casey and 1 in Darwin. Any games to be played at Etihad are where we are the away team. I know it is not ideal but we need to think of progressing the club and selling Casey 3 game memberships, to me it is better than seeing teh club forced to play 4 games a season out of Melbourne to survive.

No from me, I want no handouts of this sort, I would rather see the money go towards the Footy dept and whilst it may take time we just need to recruit more mongrels and have a go players. We have a young list and are in desperate need of quality mids. We need to make the right decisions off the field to sell the club to prespective players. If we pick up a priority pick trade it for a player who can slot straight in, target a kid ready to go in the mid and if we can snare another mid via free agency. On top of this resign Sylvia & get an extension from Chip!

Don't mind the left field option of Peter Schwab, by all accounts his downfall at the Hawks was caused by him having to much trust in his players, which was abused in the end. Could be good with the players and the media allowing the coach to be firm if the playing group start taking liberties. The reverend would also be another option as would Balmy but don't think heaven and earth would move him!

I remember 1987 RM when it just happened from nowhere and I would love to share your optimism, but can't see it at this stage. I agree there have been some positives but IMO he went hard early with his plan and our boys have struggled, gradual change in the way we play would have been better

I'm thinking along the lines of the old "you have to spend money to make money" with the forwards we have at our disposal for 2014, Jack is trade bait for me similar to the Judd-Kennedy trade, which ended up being a win for both sides. IMO if someone is prepared to offer us a first round pick for him take it and pass it on in a 3 way deal to get a quality mid ready to go next season

Very good, post, just further re Morton, watched him again today at the East Perth vs West Perth derby, he is terrible, the intensity is always up in these games and was quite physical, surprise surprise he went missing, not 1 tackle or effort to put his body on the line today. No footy development could have made him into a player, he has all the tools but no heart or desire. Stood out at junior level with all the skills where effort wasn't a premium. Another Andrew Mcdougall here top 5 pick who just didn't have the drive to make it at the top level

+ 1 get the MFC right and the amount of kids in the growth corridor, community/coaching events and it will be a big long term salvation for the club. But we must get the MFC right for the full potential to be realised

Depends how badly other clubs want him, Freo for mine will be top 4, so wont have early picks, I said yesterday I don't think he is worth a first round pick but will go 2nd round at least. Freo do not need any more small forwards

Swans are not that under resourced, they have a big indigenous programme, which is backed by BHP Billiton, there is no argument re Garlett not being drafted last year trust me I know a fair bit that went on with him off the field, even the Bombers gave him a training lifeline but didn't select him, they would have seen his talent first hand but they would have also witnessed his lack of endeavour and work rate. As Deanox said the rejection has made Dayle realise it doesn't just happen because you have talent. The indigenous programme at Swans will be helping him but there is only so much they can do, on yesterdays performance right now Dayle seems to want to succeed and prove everyone wrong and is applying himself to the task of playing well with a goal of being drafted. Will it continue, for the sake of his talent I hope so, I will provide further updates when I see him

Have to say Byrnes, based on last year, Garlett thought it was all just going to happen for him, he had a [censored] attitude on and off the field. The rejection may have been just what he needed. Had a club taken him last year he would have been of no benefit

Okay as promised went to the game today, which was a thriller close all day and Swans kicked the last 3 goals to win by 4 points and keep their finals hopes alive. Perth were the better side for most of the day but Swans hung in there and never gave up. I missed the first ten minutes so did not see Garlett's first goal, but he had a good game ended the day with 6 goals and 20 odd disposals First point I will make is Garlett actually looks fit now, he could have been accused of being a bit soft with some skin fold issues before but today was the leanest I have seen him and his pace has improved. Notes I made today First Quarter 15mins: Long ball into Swans forward line several players contest for a mark while Garlett peels off about 5 metres into space at front of the pack as opponents gets caught ball watching the contest, ball breaks to Garlett who quickly gathers and snaps an opportunist goal from 15 out direct in front. Smart play here to get into space this was instinct and not something you can teach 27mins: makes repeated leads, doubling back a couple of times to loose his opponent and create space and receive pass outside 50, plays the % rather than blazing away hits hit to the top of the square, but ball is punched through for a point 2nd Quarter 8mins: Doesn't run hard enough across half forward opponent makes a hard run across half back to receive handpass from CHB and hit a pass to lead up half forward for easy rebound from defence 12mins: Half paced lead opponent runs harder and beats Garlett easily to the ball and rebounds 14mins: Standing still and walking while opponent is free and receives pass to help clear the ball 16mins: doesn't chase opponent hard enough and ball is cleared, Swans end up winning ball back and Garlett continues walking without trying to provide an option or lead with ball only 15/20m away 25mins: shows great pace and determination to close in on opponent clearing form defence lays a tackle just as ball is cleared very unlucky not to cause turnover 26mins: shows lack of urgency when ball is pumped into Swans forward line, attacks ball but is caught behind opponent who attacks ball with venom and marks strongly. 27mins: Gathers the ball outside 50 after finding space and has acres of room, blazes away laconically from 50m and misses when could have easily run closer in and kicked a goal. 28mins: Ball kicked into forward line and decides not to contest mark opponent spills easy mark and Garlett gathers dropped ball dodges through two defenders to kick a quality goal 3rd Quarter 12mins: provides outlet at half back flank and gathers ball, spears a pass between half forward and wing great passage of play, but then lets himself down by jogging through corridor thinking he has done enough, when hard second effort would have provided an option through corridor and again when ball is in hands of Swans player in the pocket Garlett jogs when there is space at CHF near 50 where he should have provided an option. 14mins: Shows his class again crumbing from a spill in a pack and snaps a terrific goal 15mins: Same as 2nd quarter does not chase opponent across half back and allows him to gather from team mate and clear the ball from defence 19mins: Gathers ball around Half back and hits team mate with sweet pass, again jogs forward and does not provide option across half forward when opportunity presents. The ball spills in Garletts direction but is handballed to a defender approx. 20m away, Garlett puts on a burst of speed to run down opponent who manages to get his kick away but due to pressure provided it goes to a contest and gets turned over on the wing and comes back into Swans forward line. 27mins: Again opts to float around a pack contesting a high ball in, ball spills towards Garlett who gathers and goals 4th Quarter Perth are dominant for most of the quarter and get out to what seems to be a match winning lead Garlett is fairly quiet during this period but Swans start to get on top of clearances and through the middle 23mins: Leads really hard from half forward to deep between wing/half back provides option to get relieve pressure on defence, shows poise and waits for option before spearing a pass into corridor and Swans break forward resulting in a point but real quality move from defence to attack 26mins: Stays away from the ball and spreads defence allowing team mate to gather ball after he beats opponent to the ball Garletts direct opponent is forced to leave him and move to Swans player who handballs over the top to Garlett who kicks from the square, Perth lead cut to 3 points 29mins: Swans hit the front and lead by 3 points 30mins: Shows real class to gather ball around LHFF and runs to about 25 metres out and shoots from tight angle for a behind. Showed a lot of class in this move but my criticism here is he had only previously been pointing to his wrist stating time was nearly up and they needed to preserve their lead. Garlett knew the siren was near and could easily have run the ball out as he tapped around the boundary. Perth ended up taking the kick in and managed to get the ball down to their half forward line when the siren went. Went with flare here rather than play the %, but then again it was class the way he gathered the ball. Assessment: No doubt he is classy player, has great sense around goal and has silky skills. Speed is not an issue cover ground really well when he wants to but lacks a tank and does not gut run. Has obviously put in a lot of work in the last few months and has trimmed down to the fittest I have seen him. Whilst I have said he does not gut run today he made a few strong leads and applied pressure to opposing players which was lacking in his game previously so big plus for today. On todays effort you would take him but not with an early pick, AFL defenders do not drop easy marks which occurred today with 3 of his goals but he took his opportunities so you can't fault him. As the saying goes one swallow doesn't make a summer so will see if he can continue this form. I am aware Swans have made real efforts with him off field and it showed with improved fitness, the chase and leads he made today were non existent last year and while he needs to do them more and be more consistent there is a lot to work with. He will be drafted this year and wont slip through to rookie or pre season draft once he maintains his on field performance. Weakness in his game at AFL level will be defenders at that level being able to run off him and hurt the other way, but they will need to be conscious of him on the rebound, he does not need a lot of room and can be deadly around goal. Played today around half forward flank, time at full forward 1 out deep and small stints around half back and wing. Out of 10 I would give him 8 with room for more improvement, but I do mark harshly due to his god given talent
