  1. Stuie without using stats tell me how we are worse than last year, I'm not saying we are or are not just want to see the argument provided either way without using stats. As I said before stats can work any way you wish. I heard ealrier today only 4 teams have improved defensivley this season Port, Dogs, Essendon & can't recall the other of the top of my head may have been North but it was not one of the top sides. Just putting it out there
  2. very good post unlike many on here able to provide opinion on players without sticking the knife in or being downright ridiculous
  3. Well if 2014 turns out like 1998 and we turn around as quickly I will be very happy
  4. and we certainly need that against Garlett & Betts, Nicho is not big enough to go with Yarran
  5. Rain Rain Rain and lost of it is our best chance to not get thumped IMO
  6. Jazza it's just modern society politics, the workplace, bleedinghearts etc stats can work any way you wish them to and are worth looking at for a matter of interest, but under no circumstances should they be relied upon for proving anything I hate stats & fookin people using dreamteam/supercoach as a guide to player performance. I know what I see and I also know the type of player & things I like are not measured in stats
  7. Good call is not disimilar to a younger Shane Tuck the way he goes about his footy
  8. I disagree entirely the majority picked up by other clubs have played a few games but done very little which I believe will again be the case with the majority of those you listed. I am from the school of thought we pick the wrong players, I have said it many times give me mongrels and a couple of highly talented players who have the attitude to realise their potential
  9. Stuie I have seen Morton playing for East Perth and it is obvious to me why he can't get a game in Meth Coast's injury ravaged early season side, The fact he went pick 4 even that he went Top 20 says that was a bad draft and once again we had lazy recruiters who went on u/18 carnival form. He has no drive, intensity or will to get to a contest. I'm sure those in Victoria can enlighten us on the progress of Gysberts!
  10. I would argue Freo's best player is Nat Fyfe and they have a lot of coin to target some A graders come seasons end, my mail is Harry Taylor is in their sights and Buddy is also being looked at with Woodside providing a 3rd party deal. Yes Schwab helped them clear a massive debt but what the other two have done is made them a hard nosed club changing their culture, they now expect to win, it's no longer about being competitive and winning just derbies for the Dockers
  11. Brian Cook is the blueprint for what CEO'S can achieve and how they can change a club from the top down, Freo's current executive of Harris & Rosich are another example of changing a clubs culture and making tough decisions, they were the two who grabbed the bull by the horns to blind side everybody and get Ross Lyon. Don't underestimate how much an effect a good CEO has on a club
  12. Just watched the interview in full and a must watch not just for Dees fans but all footy supporters and people with or people close to people with addictions or gambling problems. Speaks from the heart and clearly has a deep love for the club. If he is offering to help the club would be crazy not to take up his offer in any capacity no matter how minor. Has faced many Demons (pardon the pun) and would provide a lot of insight to younger players or anyone at the club facing any multitude of problems Well Done Ox, Red & Blue forever
  13. Not to mention he posted in the changes after the Brisbane game for Shannon Byrnes to be dropped, FMD. If that is his conclusion after the match on the weekend I suggest he trade in the fookin guide dog
  14. Peter Bell & Kim Hagdorn were joking along the same lines a few weeks ago saying any parent of a possible top pick would be thinking let leave him out of the draft this year in case he goes to Melbourne. Belly was laughing and saying why would anyone go there I nearly rang up as my blood was boiling, this is the same guy who left North in 2001 to head to Freo who had won only 2 games for the entire season, short memory he has but I implore you all when the tide turns and it will to never let any of these people Bell, Hagdorn, Healy, Denham, Wilson and the others forget. Criticism is one thing but a lot of them have gone beyond that. Whilst I know we have deserved our right wack I will never forget these people
  15. Stuie as I have said in other posts I am undecided on Neeld's fate at this stage but leaning very much to him having to move on However throughout this thread and others you continually refer to stats, well Stats are [censored] put up an argument without referring to stats. Ben Hur like me was sold by Neelds talk last season and I still believe change was needed, but in hindsight a more gradual approach probably would have been better, than steaming in like a bull in a china shop. BH'S post #1038 pretty much sums up the situation without stats, you can make them work either way. This midfield of ours would not have been as bad had Junior been afforded two years to provide leadership in 2011/12, Maloney shown some respect and the 2009 list management decision seen us lose Mclean and probably be no chance to recruit Luke Ball. That midfield whilst having little speed would not have been smashed at the clearances and would have provided much needed leadership to our young mids. The transition from young recruit to 3rd/4th season player would have been better without having to carry the load. So if you take offence to my post well to bad but offer more than stats, just a suggestion
  16. I am against sacking him at this stage but having said that if it continues 1 reason would be and I am not saying we have a potential Paul Roos in our coaching staff but consider when Eade was sacked from Sydney and Roos stepped in to coach till the end of the season, when Terry Wallace was to become coach. Roos formed a bond with the players and results, the leadership group and other factors meant Roos was installed as full time head coach for 2003
  17. The biggest f%^k up was letting the older wiser mids go, think back to 2010 and the mix of Trengove, Scully with the older heads through the middle. It is for this reason other teams hand teh baton of ledership so smoothly and if they have off years it is only 2/3 max and they don't tend to have so many years of 4 wins. I maintain another year or two with Junior would have been a benefit to the younger mids, everything wrong with the club whether you blame the new coach the lack of development etc a lot points back to the decision to "list manage" and take top picks at all costs. The domino affect saw us lose Mclean, Ball not wanting to come other Vics returning not wishing to nominate us as a club to be traded to. We will get out of the whole we are in but that decision made back in 2009 has put extra years on digging ourselves out and there is more pain ahead. Fook me I just don't know when the pain will ease or end, thank christ for alcohol and junior footy
  18. Re watch yesterdays game and see how ridiculous taking Byrnes out is
  19. Very good point, the development was bad but the picks who were not body type to put on sufficient size and develop, their work rate was not the required level to succeed. Brock Mclean for all his faults was a good mid and another two years of Junior would have provided good leadership and culture to pass the baton at a time which would have been more appropriate. Yes their is a problem with development but I think the likes of Bennell, Morton & Gysberts did not have the physical or make up or mental apptitude to become consistent performers at this level. Maloney after last season was a no brainer he had to go but performed well for us prior to that, yes he had many faults and was a B grader at best but decent size at clearances. Had Mclean been kept and Junior been around till last year the midfield would IMO not be in the dire straits it is now. Viney is a great pick up but still a couple of years away from grabbing games by the scruff of the neck regularly, Trenners has many leadership qualities but his 1%ers mean little with the lack of quality mids we have, Jones is great but needs another good mid in with him. We can all dream about picking up a Dale Thomas or out of contract star but we need to pick up two B grade mids from good sides who are on the fringe, similar to the Mcglynn/Kennedy Hawks scenario. Freo, Adelaide, Brissy & Port would love to get their hands on Tom Boyd, I don't think GWS will take him so we need to make it happen should we finish 17th and in return we need mids ready to go from Round 1, also target 1 of GWS kids
  20. I said it last year when people were saying Port were rubbish and still maintain they have a very very good midfield. Boak, Cornes, Robbie Gray & Cassisi are all top quality mids. Added to that this year Hartlett & Wingard have had injury free pre seasons and Wines is ready made in anyones language a team with mids like that is always going to do well given time. Adelaide finished off well yesterday but they were a rabble in the first half and have been like that for most of this season. In a nutshell people comparing what Hinkley has done with Port, what Sand did with the Crows in 2012 and what Neeld has done is like comparing apples with oranges
  21. Good post C & B Let down today badly by our decision making and turnovers which cost us 5/6 goals directly Our run and spread continues to be a problem We lacked forward pressure when the ball went to ground in our forward half and once they cleared it through the corridor they run hard to provide options and leads
  22. LOL This is hilarious. "and then for no reason at all the guy just hit me" you have said this a few times in your short life haven't you
  23. You potted Todd Viney who was not recruiter for the last 7 years, go and troll somewhere else
  24. ^^^^^^^ Dylan Shiel is a very good mid in the making and probably the only likely target out of this group. Fyfe is no chance he is a country boy so Perth is in no way stale to him, Sloane well don't think he was impressed when available and told we would take him only to be overlooked for Bennell. If you want to go hard for a midfielder from the West go for Shuey but another one hard to get
