What are your feelings towards each opposition club?
Pennant St Dee replied to P-man's topic in Melbourne Demons
Adelaide- Love watching Dangerfield & Sloan, think nothing of them Brisbane - don't mind them really to much, it's good the Lion remains in the AFL in some form Carlton - Don't hate them as much as I used to the early part of this century knocked them down a peg or two Collingwood - My eldest follows them so I take interest in their results. I have hatred and admiration for them, they are what we should be had we not been mismanaged for so long Essendon - Hate them since the 80's and again after 2000 Fremantle - I like Freo their fans are very loyal and have a bit of footy knowledge unlike those chardonnay fookers up the road Hawthorn - Hate them but also admire them for the way they turned their club around after 1996 Geelong - Like watching them play true professionals, but I have hated their arrogance ever since James Kelly did a mock sleeping on a teammates shoulders while yawning as they sang the team song after beating us around 2009/10. I have never forgotten that vision it is burned in my memory forever Gold Coast - Hate them we didn't need anymore than 16 teams GWS - AFL'S lovechild and I despise them North - I admire their culture, loved watching Glen Archer go about it on the field but must say I hate Brad Scott, he is a whinger and I hope they crash and burn this year so he falls on his sword Richmond - we share birthdays and I don't mind the Toiges Saints - long suffering like us and felt for them in 09 & 10 Sydney - admire the way they go about it and love their culture Meth Coast - Im an Irish Catholic and I hate them more than I hate Rangers, living in Perth only makes me hate them more, they and their supporters are absolute scum Western Bulldogs - like the Saints I feel for their supporters -
NAB Challenge 1 - Richmond v Melbourne

FMD how much did I drink last night, I watched the replay this morning and nothing changed, we still played good footy with run and a bit of composure in the back half. For those having a pot at Jimmy T, what I liked was he did nothing for first half but Roos didn't shelter him and left him out there he kept having a dip and was better in 2nd half. No passengers last night, been a long long time since we had an alL round effort by all 22(or whatever the NAB Cup nmbers are -

Not sure if he will but I think a few of those 6000 members we lost over the last 2 years will -

and can name you half a dozen best 22 Dockers who can't kick. Coaches like Roos & Lyon play to structures and players strengths, he will see many positives in Bails running capacity and desire to do anything he can for the benefit of the team -

Seriously bud if you want to see someone soft go and have a look in the mirror FFS keyboard warrior if ever I saw one. His skills you can fault but never question Nicho's endeavour. -
Fyfe will never leave WA, smart move by his manager, Freo has a war chest which they saved up for unsuccesful tilts at Clarke & Cloke, Sandilands, Mcpharlin & Pavlich all coming to the end. I can see Fyfe getting a very big front loaded contract and believe me they will come big for Jesse next season. A ball park figure of around $400-500k for him returning home after two years was spoken about last season (not revealing source) but I trust them. The source does not believe the offer was official and was just a matter of contact and discussion point. Source also stated Hoges is currently very happy at the Dees
-
Ross Lyon is doing the same as he did to wake up Michael Walters, has the media hounding him and publically making him aware a spot in Freo's best 22 is earned and not a given. Sylvia will be a good addition to the Freo side and by midway through the season I expect him to be firing

Stuey it is simple Scully was a different case new team uncontratced player, they paid overs no team will offer that to Frawley Maloney was different as the footy department felt he was surplus to requirements Frawley is very much a required player Again I am not confused, I and others who have commented know exactly what we are saying
-
They want Frawley to stay The end
-
Totally different scenario, but lets not let facts get in the way

I have fond memories watching Micky Conlan on the Winners running through opposition players with his head. May be wrong but wasn't he the one who kicked the winning goal in an elimination final possibly to put the Bombers out in 86?
-
FMD well in that case Alan Johnson - Perth Demons Earl Spalding - Perth Demons Alan Jokovich - South Fremantle Shane Wowoedin - East Fremantle Jeff Farmer - South Fremantle Alistair Nicholson - Claremont Steve Armstrong -Perth Demons Dean Kent - Perth Demons All must be not worthy, don't recall West Perth being a good production line for us

I am also a garlic muncher long time Cardies fan but attend at least 1 WAFL game every week. He stood out at Peel because he found his own ball which I would argue is harder to do in a bottom side. As others have said he was trying to break into a very very good midfield. I don't think anyone is talking him up as a Brownlow medallist but IMO we have picked up a hardened big bodied mid who has a few good pre-seasons behind him coming from a good culture and who's club really did not want to let him go
-
Did you see him play any WAFL games last season Demon Frog. Saw him 5 times last season and must say very impressed to get him. Really stood out in a side bereft of talent. On what I saw he was best WAFL midfielder last season.

The AFL has stuffed up the Western Sydney experiment
Pennant St Dee replied to Yeats8's topic in Melbourne Demons
PRB -it would not work IMO for the simple reason of the loss of big dollars to clubs who were relegated would see them putting development of young players on the back burner and the focus would be on maintaining your status in the Top League. The draft would not work and we would end up like the Premier League where the power clubs maintain a hold at the top and the smaller clubs just have mediocre sides who would keep them in the top flight IMO we had it right with 16 teams and going to 18 stretched the resources to much, NRL is a sport for TV and I don't think we needed to try the Western Sydney experiment. -

Sydney of 05 had a very handy back up ruckman in Jason Ball & from memory he retired after the GF and Stephen Doyle was back up the following season. Pretty sure Ryan O'Keefe played mostly as a forward back then and as you say Hall & Micky O were the two main targets with the resting ruckman. Amon Buchanan & Schneider were two small forwards they had. -

Improvers Viney - the kid just has that desire to succeed and put in the work to get the best out of himself Toumpas - puts a lot of pressure on himself but his second pre-season will be a bonus and he has the tools to become a very good player Howe - will be played as a forward and if the big 3 play regularly he will get off the leash and be an absolute nightmare as a 4th forward to man up on TMac - like Viney he has the desire to get the best out of himself and I expect Frawley to get back to his best form and the midfield to improve resulting in less pressure on our defensive half, which will help Tom Sliders I Hope none of our players slide and they are all champing at the bit to break into the 22 each week. If any players are to slide I hope the reasons are due to age catching up with them and/or our younger players maturing to a level where they must be played most weeks. The only sliders I want to see are Regular beltings Inability to run out quarters and allow opposition to run over us in time on Inability to play a competitive brand of footy for 4 quarters

Thanks a million for the training updates I have been overseas for the last 5 and a half weeks so not across everything, which has been going on. Best thing about coming back in January is Australian Open is on and once that is done Pre-season and build up to season all starts. Just looking forward to seeing us turn up for 4 quarters regularly for the first time in a long time. -

They missed out on the main draft - PSD or rookie?
Pennant St Dee replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Tom Shanahan if he is still available with our 3rd or 4th pick in the rookie draft, North, Hawks, Meth Coast & Bombers may also have him in their sites -
Saty, D34, Mcqueen and all others who provide training reports much appreciated by a fellow Demon living in the West. Probably my last training report read for a few weeks as I head off to Ireland Friday for 5 weeks and god knows when I'll manage to get back on Demonland. But to all Dlanders, wishing you all a merry christmas and a happy new year. Here's to hoping 2014 is kind to us and the start of an upward climb
