  1. It isn't exclusively Vic Kids, Polec (SA) & Yeo (WA) also headed home. Not enough resources put into the retention of and support for recruits
  2. Hankook would be the tyre company
  3. Are you ever going to grow up or just keep having us Deelanders thinking, "This guy will cop on when he gets into secondary school". FFS I'm getting down to his level of Juvenile posts
  4. Acres is nothing like Cale, trust me Blake knows how to get his own ball
  5. Agree very safe bet with Sheed there are better players but he will be 150-200 game player
  6. North will take Garlett at 30 having missed out on Eddie Betts is my tip for the draft
  7. As others have stated I have watched him very closely and honestly don't know the answer whether to take him at Pick 40. He is a very different player this year to last year and the change off field is even bigger. My doubt on him is being hurt the other way and he was found out a little in the lift in intensity in the WAFL elimination final. Do you take the risk and put him with a mentor, I'm not talking about an indigenous mentor I am talking having him run with a Jones, Cross at training in the way Sydney did with Jack, O'keefe & Jetta. The talent is undoubted and the disposal is fantastic, he has Lewis Jetta well and truly covered here but does not have the speed of Jetta. To weigh up Garlett if you take him at 40 you are getting Pros: A kid with the talent of a Top 10 Pick at a vastly reduced price Elite disposal and a gift of making players go to the right spot with the weight he puts on the pass Goal sense that would cause headaches for defenders - on the right day he is certainly capable of kicking 5 or 6 easily He was jolted at not being selected last season and got his body & attitude right, so there is some hunger there Cons: Question mark on work ethic, whilst there is marked improvement it needs to be maintained and even step up a gear at the next level. Can he do it? He does not have the explosive pace or tackling pressure of a young Aaron Davey or Cyril Rioli so defensive pressure is not big for him. Having said that there has been occasions when he corners and harasses defenders, without lunging in blindly and forcing turnovers when they second guess themselves. In 2012 when the ball hit the deck that was the end of his effort. At this stage he is only a forward, the tank is nowhere near AFL ready but he is not Robinson Crusoe there Summing up it is a toss of a coin, if there is a player available at 40 you didn't expect then I would go for them over Garlett but that is just my opinion. The rewards for taking the punt on him and it paying off are massive. But we are taking a punt with a third round pick big loss if it doesn't pay off maybe there are always Farmer's, Swan's, Sloane's and others who get overlooked but he may be one of these. Roos & Stone may be able to get the best out of him, time will tell. North missing out on Eddie Betts will be looking at him now. Barring an off field relapse he will be drafted just a matter of by whom and where
  8. Watters inherited a list at Subiaco which was the best in the WAFL and had been built by Peter German. Under German they were runners up to West Perth in 2003 before winning in 04 & 06. Watters took them to flags in 07 & 08 with the same list. I know you still have to make changes and moves on match day but not sure how he would have gone with a less talented list. Even back at Subi there were rumours of issues between him and the players and I do know there were issues with other coaches at the club. I think Saints have made the right move Watters was a dead man walking and they would have been no chance next season. The playing group would have been aware of this and been like the Dees of 2013
  9. B: Terlich Mcdonald Garland HB: Toumpas Frawley Grimes C: Watts Tyson Vince HF: Howe Dawes Trengove F: Kent Clark Hogan R: Jamar/Gawn, Viney, N. Jones Int & Sub: Cross, Mckenzie, Michie, Pick 9 Emg: Strauss, Fitzy, Dunn Think Roos will go with a side that has plenty of run all across the ground, therefore Terlich gets in despite his knack of turning it over, Roos didn't bring Clark to the club so playing solely as a forward was no promises of his. He is the back up ruck and should do the tap work in the forward half. Trengove, Watts, Cross, Viney, Jones, Toumpas, Michie, Pick 9(will be a mid), Vince, Kent, Tyson and possibly Terlich all have the ability to rotate through the middle. Mckenzie gets in to get a run with role on Montagna or Steven. Strauss is an outside chance for a spot off halfback if Roos wants a player with a good kick like Malceski to set up play unless he wants Watts to play this along with Toumpas. Whilst I don't think we are near Top 8 material one thing we have is options with mids with Matt Jones and Evans missing out. Speed is something Roos likes in his team so what happens Blease is something to consider.
  10. I think Meth Coast will take him at Pick 11 and IMO is a better mid than Sheed and would fit in well to their midfield. He would slot into our side rotating through the middle and can set up play off a HBF. Gets plenty of ball at West Perth colts and they look to play through him all the time, hence the high possession counts. He has been a good player through his junior career and had a shoulder injury this year, which affected him a little and otherwise I think he would have played seniors at West Perth. Is he worth pick 9 possibly as you will get 150-200 solid games out of him at AFL level and he is a safe pick, don't believe there is any x-factor in him to become a game changer but then again would fit in very nicely.
  11. I heard stories of players being brought over from Victoria who had one look at East Fremantle Oval, saw the size of it and thought no this is not for me. Red & Black the pig pen with the can bar is probably still the best place to watch suburban footy. You two boys I would assume are southsiders or from the country zones, northside boy played at Ocean Ridge & Warwick. It was the West Perth District in the old days but by the time I hit my teens it was the Subi zone
  12. Anywhere any place anytime, I am over this looking at the draw and predicting how we will go, Saints and GWS fans are probably thinking the same. FFS lets just knuckle down and worry about week to week
  13. He can run but that is about it, gets plenty of ball at WAFL level due to superior fitness and also finds a bit of the ball on the wide expanses of Subi. Oppositions sides man up on Shuey Hurn and Gaff. Priddis get the ball on the outside and Dalziell and Masten are allowed by opponents to get as much ball as they like because they are not good enough to hurt you. They either turn it over, give off to a team mate under the pump or go backwards looking for another player to set up. A no from me he is no better than players we already have
  14. Guarantee he will with teh new WAFL host club arrangement he will head from East Perth back to his old club Claremont
  15. Where did you play your Junior footy DDRAKE & what vintage are you I played Colts late 80's
  16. Not really it doesn't show us anything we don't already know, I have no doubt Morton has skill and always did, that is what the highlight package shows him receiving the ball without working hard and then disposing of it with plenty of time and no pressure. He can still do this at WAFL level but is also found wanting there in workrate and toughness. Not once in his highlight package does it show him putting his body on the line or working hard to run into space. Good recruiters know what to look for but sadly this was in the time of Prendergast who clearly did not look at this as a pre requisite for a spot on our list
  17. Salem looks very good by foot but have to say what impressed me most was the way he ran into space to provide options. Seems a player very much in the Swans mould who can rotate through the middle and has a bit of pace about him. I will trust the footy department but he looks a player.
  18. MCG In September week 2 of the finals would be good!
  19. More inspirational than any of us WYL now that is effort and dedication, just to get out and don't let anything get in your way. Please don't think I am being patronising in anyway, I really take my hat off to you. Most inspirational thing I ever saw in my life was John Mclean doing an Ironman race, I raced that day and was just blown away by his zest for life and never say die attitude, he was a former top athlete (was playing rugby league in NSW I think) who was hit by a truck whilst out training and left paralysed but never let it get in his way of competing and providing inspiration to others. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NKh32NIuTJM Also Team Hoyt a father and son from the United states, they race in marathons, Ironman races and if you are not inspired by their story you have no heart http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rF7Bv9Rjl0E
  20. Not even just a long way to go but no idea about fixtures, injuries, drafts, rookies etc but this long out and open to a lot of possibilities 1.Sydney - Still were there at the pointy end this year with a lot of injuries and no chance of freshening up some of their mids 2.Fremantle - not to far off and very hard to beat, last role of dice almost for Sandi, Pav and Mcpharlin before they take a couple of steps back 3.Essendon - barring some ASADA intervention were a very good side for much of the year and only dropped off late 4.Hawthorn - will miss Buddy who always takes best defender but still have plenty of talent and some good kids coming through from Box Hill 5.Richmond - expect further improvement as they have every year under Dimmer, Cotchin is an absolute gun 6.North - will improve and were close last year in many games, midfield has plenty of upside but still very suspect on their defence 7.Collingwood - Defence may be an issue but they still have class through the middle and I think they have sorted out some dressing room issues 8.Adelaide - finished the second half of the season off well, only issue is going to be on the scoreboard while waiting on big Tex to come back _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 9.Geelong - just think after so long with sustained success something has to give whilst they have turned the list over, the older heads of Kelly, Enright etc are almost there 10. Carlton - still not his list yet and they need a forward and big gorilla defender from somewhere 11. Port Adelaide - play hard running footy and are honest which will see then win plenty of games 12. Gold Coast - Quality midfield and undesirable conditions at Metricon will have them winning around 8/10 13. Melbourne - may take time but game plan will evolve and we will be better as the season goes on and win games by managing to put things together for 3 to 4 quarters 14.Meth Coast - side on the slide, Natainui is still having groin issues and there best players are getting a bit long in the tooth 15.Bulldogs - I think they may be found out a bit there midfield was really good at the back end of last season but I think teams will do their homework and 2013 will be like our 2010 16.Brisbane - plenty of off field problems which we know all about at MFC no doubt it effects the players 17. St Kilda - as above Scott Watters is a dead man walking, players no this and will be like ours were under Neeld 18.GWS - may win a couple more games but I still think they have issues The top 8 doesn't change that much there are always surprise sides who fall out and always 1 new top four side and a bolter. All depends on injuries and form a good run of luck could see you finish 7th and a bad run could see you as low as 14/15th. I just expect our boys to show plenty more grit and whilst finals for me is an absolute long shot I think the foundations will be put in place for the future
  21. Started playing both codes (Soccer & Footy) as a kid after immigrating from Ireland not much of a change from GAA, played juniors in Perth playing at Subiaco's development squads and colts. At 17 was forced to make a very tough choice between the two codes. Fathers influence saw me choose the round ball game and headed to Europe and played over there for 4 years before starting an apprenticeship late and playing in local leagues. Returned to Perth with my wife in 1996 shiftwork played havoc with team sport and played amatuers before doing a knee, which resulted in me taking up triathlons as part of the strengthening process. Ended up getting involved off field and just do non impact sport myself, the body is shot. Have to say love watching young kids playing now and watch WAFL, local development squads, PSA (Private School footy) colts and anything I can. Great following kids from a young age and watching the progression you are always surprised with who ends up making it and 90% of the time it's not the kid you think it will be. I do often think back to what would have happened had I made a different choice back when I was young but that is life, would not have met my wife and had two wonderful boys had I made that choice.
  22. Fook it if it is Freo at Subi, it's Freo in Subi. We were all happy the last two years thinking Brissy & Port at the G and how did that turn out. I was there in Round 1 98, we lost but were fairly good for most of the day, it was really hot and we just struggled on the big ground with the heat. We got better as the year went on and I seriously don't mind us getting a hard game first up in 2014 either. The list needs to learn to play against the best and the odd belting of mediocre sides in the last 7 years wont cut it anymore.
  23. St Kilda did it with a ruckman a few years back can't recall his name and Freo did it last season with Jack Anthony. It can and has been done
  24. Looks good in theory, but taking a lot of off field issues with him, very similar to a former Brownlow/Premiership player at a similar age. The issues never went away and are still there in retirement. To much risk
  25. Hawthorn springs to mind
