POSTGAME: Rd 1 vs Port Adelaide
He is an inside mid who has been pushed to the outside. I have said it before and will say it again. He is an inside mid or nothing. We have a serious lack of outside mids which is why he gets away with less scrutiny. Its the same with ANB really. They simply shouldnt be playing in the positions they do but we havent got the outside players to replace them. Its great that we have been recruiting so many 'competitive' type players over the years but we really need to address the outside mid/flanker issue we have. We cannot simply keep recruiting VFL players to add depth. We see it every year at recruitment time. "Oh good! we have picked up {insert depth players name}, we will really have competition for spots now!" and this is true.... but its Corey Wagner vs Josh Wagner competing for that spot. We now have Corey Wagner, Josh Wagner, Hore, Lockhart, Maynard, and others competing for the same depth spots.

A shame. There are a lot of times I disagree with him, but at least he articulates his thoughts clearly and makes you think a bit. I assume he attacked one of the protected species again.

POSTGAME: Rd 1 vs Port Adelaide
The usual suspects did in the game day thread. While the way they carry on is poor, I shared their feelings today. I've been worried since JLT 1. Our best 22 is great when in form. Our depth players are actually pretty good, but you cant play too many depth players as well as carrying so many out of form best 22 players.

POSTGAME: Rd 1 vs Port Adelaide
No way do we have that luxury. We are playing some depth players who should not be getting a game because they are either too young and should be at Casey or they are simply not good enough. Thank god we recruited May because I never want to see Frost and OMac in the same team ever again.

GAMEDAY: Rd 01 vs Port Adelaide
No way you could put Pettracca in the same category as the rest of those players. He has never played consistently good games like the rest of them. While it looks bad... If you could magically change things so Viney and McDonald were in form the other players wouldn't be playing so poorly. It's a snowball effect, but can quickly snowball back the other way too.

Mid season draft ponderings
Hmm... I assumed that it would carry over from the 2018 national draft. I.e, we passed on our round 6 pick and didn't pick anyone even though we had a spot available. If there is no one who passed before our pick or subsequently have used it in the Preseason Draft then we would have pick one of the mid season draft. Will have a look and see what I can find online. Edit: Link to AFL info article Carlton seem to have 2 spots left. Melbourne, GWS and Gold Coast have one each based on the links in the article although GC may have used theirs by now.

POSTGAME: JLT 02 vs Brisbane
I cant believe I was looking forward to that so much. I'm so happy that preseason is essentially over. Bring on the real stuff. I've been around long enough now to know that preseason form doesnt really prove much but it would have been nice to have a young player really stand up and show something which I thought didn't happen this year. Any win we get early this season will be fantastic as the boys haven't looked great early. I'm still impressed with Brisbane. They have recruited well and have some truly excellent young talent coming through. They are probably a few years behind where we are right now but they will be a hard team to beat this year and personally I will be watching most of their games. They will be one of our main nemesis over the next decade.

GAMEDAY: JLT 02 vs Brisbane
He didnt get a touch for a very long time into the game. Hasn't done anything that I would consider noteworthy. Note: Not bagging him out. It's JL2.

GAMEDAY: JLT 02 vs Brisbane
Loved and hated him as a player. Hated him because he was so good against us. Terrible commentator. Commented early that Steph Martin was clever for pushing forward and dragging Max back with him. Make Max play back which he isnt comfortable with and take away his ability to push forward. Will try to wear Max out. It's like Riewoldt hasn't seen Max play. 1. Max goes back regularly. It's one of the main reasons why he is so good. He goes forward, back, midfield and takes the majority of the hit outs. 2. Max is the fittest ruck man in the comp. If anything Martin will wear himself out before Max.

GAMEDAY: JLT 02 vs Brisbane
This is turning into a rubbish day. I am not a big JKH fan, but he is finally at the point where he is competing for a spot in the 22 and while he would always be depth in my opinion it's a cruel blow to get injured at the best time in his career to push his case. Also a blow to our depth. Hope he is ok.

Rance. Same height as Tmac. 5 kg lighter. Had a great day and barely looked like he was even getting out of 4th gear.

PREGAME: JLT 02 vs Brisbane
I love the way Chris Fagan is developing the Lions. They will beat a few fancied teams this year and gave us a good run for our money in round 2 last year.

POST MATCH DISCUSSION: Melbourne vs Richmond - JLT 01
He didn't play on Nankervis. Nankervis played as a forward. Preuss was matched up against Ivan Soldo.

POST MATCH DISCUSSION: Melbourne vs Richmond - JLT 01
The problem is that his greatest strength is not in the game plan. A lot of posters point out how we lack players who can break the line with pace and carry the ball. Its not what we do. We take possession and move the ball quickly by hand or foot. We bounced the ball an average of 4 times per game last year. Essendon were the clear leaders with 12, Richmond second with 8.5. Most of the time he runs his measure and needa to bang it onto his boot. It looks great when it comes off, but usually allows the defenders enough time to get in a good position.

Who is going to replace ANB? He is very much a meat and potatoes sort of player, but i cannot see anyone pushing him out of his spot this year.

Thought we looked slow. Good hit out. Would have liked it if a youngster stood up. Looking forwatprd to next week

GAME DAY: Melbourne vs Richmond - JLT #1
I was going to say earlier that James Jordan is clearly out of his depth but he has worked his way into the game pretty well.
