Good point. Maths is the same as its based off the number of years Diamond Jim proposed and a ten year contract which he is actually on. However that does mean that he has in his 6th year and has another 4 to go. That's a long time left to be paying over 1 million per year. Would any club take that contract over? I don't think so

His reported contract is 10 million over 10 years. Under your scenario... 2013-2017 : 5 x 1.1million = $5,500,000 2017-2020: 3 x 1.2million = $3,600,000 Total = $9.1million So yeah, in hindsight not too bad. But you only have him contracted till 2020 when you could reduce it right down or more likely let him retire. Plus you would much prefer this option as a club when signing as you get to renegotiate in 2017. The AFL advised at the time of the trade that Buddy's salary would stay in the salary cap even if he retires prematurely (which they will probably go against). If he is forced to retire at the end of this year (as you say unlikely but possible), he will be chewing over a million per year for the next three years. That's huge. Sydney have been lucky that he has been able to produce at such a high level for so long. It really could have been a lot worse. They took a punt and it has largely paid off, but it was outrageous at the time.

Indeed. It was outrageous at the time. I hope they back ended the hell out of it. He is 32 years old, unable to train, is starting to lose his long kicking and has another 4 years to go.

Funny. I have exactly the same feelings. I had high hopes for the season but I am surprisingly Zen about us having a bad year. A lot has to go right to win the whole thing. I'm not going to worry too much. We should be worried about any team with strong outside run. The Saints should be sh!tting themselves about our contested fire power. They have Ross and Stelle on the inside.
  5. I couldn't work out if he was serious or taking the mickey.
  6. Just showed his highlights postmatch. I would like to look at them again but there were a few moments that didn't look good. Very dubious. There were also some genuine highlights from him that looked great. So hard to stop those 200cm forwards when they put the arms out. He is a ripper.
  7. Oh no doubt. Ziebell has always been a good strong player that you would be happy to pick up. Polec is great on the outside and would have complimented our list nicely. I quite like McDonald too and McMillan has been underated. I'm not saying they are bad. It's just a boring side. I watch most games of footy each week and know most teams pretty well. North just don't have much of interest at the moment.
  8. Just looking at their list and by gosh it is a boring team. Ben Brown, Cunnington, Higgins and then a heap of 'handy' players. No wonder they have salary cap space. Most of their players would be overpaid to meet the minimum.
  9. It's hard to tell how much of Preuss decline during the match was injury or endurance. He had absolutely zero tank at while at North. I won't be expecting him to kick 2 goals every week. He will be very inconsistent and frustrate a lot until he can build his tank.
  10. 10 points for dedication to the cause DV8.
  11. The funniest part of this is that he gets it wrong most of the time.
  12. I have been pretty happy with what i have seen from Corey so far. Very happy for him to be making up the numbers as I think he could improve enough to be a handy player for a number of years.
  13. Jones with a great game. Humble pie for me.
  14. Swan supporters with no idea what the rules are.
  15. Commentary team have finally noticed that we aren't playing too bad. You can tell that they want us to lose.
  16. Well done Frost. Playing a good game on Buddy
  17. The whole commentary team have just been waiting for us to stuff up so they can say how loose and leaky we have been. I don't think we have been playing great but neither have the Swans and they haven't been all all year so far.
  18. I have been hating on Frost recently. But he had been good so far. Of course Buddy will get onto a couple. He is a champion.
  19. Bruce really wants the Swans to win
  20. Oscar McDonald is having a terrible night.

There is something about Jack Martin that doesn't sit right with me. Perhaps it's his consistency. He has this seemingly limitless potential but never produces week to week.
  22. We do. However my view has some caveats. Sam is a straight shooting hard leading type player. He isn't a strong pack marking type player. He needs space to lead into where another player can deliver it to his advantage. Our current game plan does not match this. We bomb it in. Lock it in. It does not suit Sam at all and it drives me nuts. If we change and start delivering into the fwd 50 with a bit more class then Sam will shine. I fear that we won't.
  23. Weid has a lot of development left. He could easily be a 50 goal year kpf. Although I think a number of posters assumed that the Cats final last year was his breakout and that he would just continue to deliver at that level. He has a lot of work to do to deliver at that level consistently. Thinking that he would replace Hogan was foolish. Hogan is a contested marking freak. I would back a 17 year Hogan over Weid right now. Weid will make it, he just needs the ball delivered to him better and a bit more development. TMac kicked over 50 last year. I think I'm missing what you are putting down here. Do you mean that TMac only kicked 50 because Hogan was there? I was very sad the day the news came out that Hogan was heading home. We lost the trade as soon as he decided to leave. No way we're we going to get what he was worth. Mainly because he hadn't lived up to his potential in his time with us.
  24. I thought this when he was 20/21. He hasn't gotten any better though has he? The improvement just hasn't happened.
  25. He is in mine too. I was a fan of his at the Suns when he first started and have kept an eye on him over the years. Even when he was playing badly he would average about 18 possessions a game. He is averaging 8 with us at the moment. He is underdone but will come good with some game time. I thought he was much better tonight than last week. He really should be building up at Casey. Thats how bad we are travelling at the moment. The cupboard is bare and we are forced to play players when we shouldn't.
