  1. i've seen this "core" player term used in other threads and dont agree with its use. Cam Bruce may not be as good as he was a few season ago, but i would deffinatley say he's one of the core players on our list at the moment. I'd say that all of the more senior guys make up the core of the playing group/are the core of the team - Cam Bruce, Brad Green, Jimmy Mac, Riv, Beamer etc I remember a few seasons ago when Cam Bruce would have been a shot for the brownlow had he not gotten injured - absolute star in his prime He sat on our table at the Western Demons function earlier this year and he's a Great bloke too
  2. if you have a chance to make finals you take it. We might not get there this year, but we should sure as hell try. Next years results should be improved from this year, but you never know when you might have an off year (ie. Hawks after their flag year, crows this year). So you take any finals chance that you can and give it a red hot crack regardless of any grand long term plans
  3. 6 Sylvia 5 Mckenzie 4 Garland 3 Jamar 2 Bartram 1 Davey
  4. if joride goes the whole season without a nomination then its a disgrace!! also, i think the football public want watts to be a key forward - due to this fact alone he wont get a nomination unless he kicks a bag of goals liked his game on the weekend - probably could have been close to getting a nomination if he backed himself to kick some close range goals instread of dishing them off to others?
  5. Jurrah to come good and kick 4 Jordie to run with Dustin Martin and smash him everytime he tries a fend off! B)
  6. i dont mind the white strip so much now that we've had a win wearing it!
  7. Nathan Jones?! Dont get me wrong i like the way he goes about it, and the effort he puts in, but id say his twitter updates have been better than a few of his games!
  8. Moloney to come in for Jones Trengove to come in Bennell or a general soreness ommision for Sculls/Jordie I reckon Jordie is one of our most important players at the moment so would hate to see him rested i think LJ and Watts will not be dropped even though Watts needs to back himself and take a few more shots at goal instead of dishing of handballs when he is 20m out, and Jurrah needs to do more in general!
  9. pfft what a load of crap!
  10. its stupid to not want the boys to get a taste of september action....
  11. yep, and not sure how hawthorn fans can vouch for the intent of the club come trade week!
  12. i reckon he's worth another year - maybe without the role as skipper? i also think that trengove has a spot in our best 22 regardless of what position others are playing. PJ hitting some good form has kinda kept us from playing him this week i reckon? When Beemer is fit i reckon Jones will make way - beemer is a better player, and i reckon jones in holidng on due to his size.
  13. nathan2jones "So I spoke to Aussie!! His goal celo was a tribute to a mates 21st b'day back in Darwin, he made a K sign with his fingers haha!! Legend!!" from twitter
  14. Jeff Farmer was an absolute Gun! wasnt quite the same player at freo, but living in west australia i used to get great pleasure in seeing him do the "purple jesus" pose when he booted goasl against the eagles!
  15. i wouldnt compare them, but am glad with our decision Just like people were quick to write of jack watts, i think people are now writing of Natinui way too early. Id be very suprised if he didnt imporve to be a good player. Its not often that a ruckman is any good with out a fair few years of experience behind him - think about how long it took sandilands to be the player he is today? Looking back at the draft, Watts and Natinui were both taken as long term prospects (as key position forwards and ruckmen generally are). Danel Rich had a great 1st year, but being a nuggety midfielder its seems that he hasnt had much room from improvement? Steven Hill has improved quite alot thanks to bulking up a little. I'm sure Jack Watts and Natinui will be more valuable than both of these players, if only becasue KPF's and ruckmen arent as common as good mids...
  16. This game will let us a lot about the dees; where they are at as a side, and how far they have come from two years of receiving back to back timber cutlery. On the back of some promising performances over the last 3 weeks, the more optimistic Dees supporters can look towards this weekend’s game with the belief that snatching a win against the more fancied Swans is a realistic possibility. Hard fought, competitive losses against top four teams in the saints and Freo, along with the solid win against the struggling bombers, seem to indicate that our form is on the up. Dean Baileys men will yet again go into the game speaking of the need to start well and the desire to play four quarters of competitive football. Key youngsters Grimes & Trengove look set to miss again through injury, and as such the fitness of Brent Moloney may be a key to the dee’s hopes, with the big fella’s work at clearances being all important against the tough-at-it swans. Sydney have been in very good form themselves in recent weeks; duel brownlow medallist Adam Goodes has made a return to the midfield and his impact in these games has been telling. The running halfback flankers, Malcheski and Kennelly have been firing of late and can also be contributed to the swans recent form. With Nath Jones begin used as somewhat of a tagger in recent months I wouldn’t mind seeing him go to either of these half back flankers. This would allow him to have a few more oppertunities to contribute on the scoreboard, and any free kicks awarded to the opposition would be less likely to result directly into goals! There are a few key matchups; the ruck battle between Jamar & Mumford which could be the difference between who gets the nod for a possible 2nd all-australian ruck position, and they way the dees go about trying to minimize the impact of Adam Goodes (perhaps a Dunn / Frawley match up depending on what part of the ground Goodes goes?). All match ups aside though, the winner on the weekend will be whoever can play competitive, high pressure football for the longest. Hopefully after last weeks disappointment the lads will bounce back with a sustained, high intensity effort. The dee’s play their best footy at the MCG, which is a trend they will no doubt be hoping will continue to ring true. Dees by 16 points
  17. I reckon most of our small forwards are likely enough. Until we have a big target that creates enough crumbs for the little fellas, or start delivering the ball in to the forward 50 to their advantage i reckon its hard to judge. Guys like Bennel & Jetta show enough good signs IMO - they tackle and chase and generally dont waste their touches to often. i agree Wona may struggle after all of the injury set backs, but he can take a decent grab for his size and his set shot is decent enough to persist for another year. All these guys have a bit of X-factor about them; infact i think the "X-factor" tag suggests unpredictability, and with that often comes inconsistancy!
  18. Goodes to kick 3 goals and have over 30 touches in a loosing side B)
  19. PJ did well enough against Sandilands, no reason why he couldnt do allright against mummy. Also sydney played alot of talls on the weekend, if PJ loses his spot i'd say Warnock will need to come back to play on on of the swans talls?
  20. 6 - James Frawley 5 - Jordie McKenzie 4 - Colin Sylvia 3 - Tom Scully 2 - Joel MacDonald 1 - Jamie Bennell
  21. i think guys like sylvia, rivers and beemer are still in our current best 22. I think the message to "take the game on" on all accounts somtimes gets over done and results with blokes being reckless and making poor decisions! You can see it with Jones quite often - rather than give the easy pass, he'll tuck the ball under his arm and take on a player and get pinned holding the ball etc. Im sure at times he just feels like hes doing what the coach askes of him!
  22. Beamer for trengove looks quite likley this week. Pity though cos we could use some toughness against the swans. I think both Bate and Jones shouldnt be dropped although they both can frustrate me to no end! Seems like they both give their all, but somthimes get carried away with the "take the game on" message from the coaches and run them selves into trouble. Dont think dropping them would actually help them at all - probably better off siting them down and letting them know that maybe for a week or two they should make the easy passesinstead of trying to blaze away brilliantly. Also, if beamer misses due to the cork, then jones should stay in for his bigger frame around the clearances. Bennell played well yesterday - keep him in the side for sure Cale Morton looks like he needs to run a little harder or somthing? Might be a toss up between him and Dunn for the match up on Goodes though?
  23. yeah i think dustin martin has played some very good games and would win it if eligible. Trengove is a very good chance, he has been very consistant and very good! I thought Jammie Bennell deserved a nomination for his game against Port in Darwin - 3 goals etc. Fyfe got the nod taht round, but JB's stats were better. Guess that becasue he's not a high profile draft pick he doesnt get noticed ? Yarran's nomination in round 1 was laughable....
  24. yeah i know mate, maybe i, like alot of others see all of Jack's potential/talent and want him to be the complete package now!!! Hopefully in a few years he'll be crusching players in between kicking bags for us!
  25. he made it look that way didnt he! B) The hit was made by a lovet murry (or someone similar) and there was no head high contact
