  1. havent seen enough of strauss to really comment. but has plenty of blokes ahead of him so will stuggle to get a game. Having a good kick doesnt count for much if you dont get your hands on the ball, which sounds like is his problem
  2. no one forgets this fact. Some people just wonder why a #1 pick was used on a project/development player not a ready made star (which is the usual route). I dont have a problem with having to wait for him to come good becasue we're still a way off as an entire team anyway, but I can also sympathise with those who cant see why the bloke gets talked up or defended as much as he does. If he was taken at pick 25 he wouldnt be getting a regular game IMO
  3. yeah thats what im hoping for too!
  4. haha i was planning to do this too. Its a long shot, but the bloke is a freak and has proven that he'll kick ~3 per game even without getting alot of chances. Wonder what he'd be payign for most goals at MFC? that would almost be a sure thing if he can stay injury free?
  5. thats the fun of venting your thoughts online though isnt it?! If we all agreed 100 of the time then discussion boards would be boring places! I'm sure Jack Watts will come good. He's starting to show a bit. But i also agree with C&B that Wattsy gets an easy ride from the supporters these days for no other reason that he was a #1 pick and that he has started to show small glimpes of what we he'll be able to achieve. No one gives Morton, Maric, Jetta,Bennell much slack and they are only a year older....and most of them have showed just as much as Watts, not in terms of promise/future worth, but in terms of actual good signs on the field some of them have showed more IMO
  6. I'm looking forward to seeing Watts improve, im sure he will BUT im going to back what curry and beer said in principle. Everyone talks about how Watts is a great mark, great set shot, has great agility, great footy IQ, great passing skills etc BUT really from what we've seen over the last few years, has he really shown us that? Or is that just what the club say and what his draft profile said? For every good mark he takes he also drops a sitter. His goal kicking is nothing amazing really (or is it just me?) Every time he passes the ball to another player people say "wow what vision, great pass" but if Jones did the same pass we'd say "about time he hit up a target and just didnt bomb it long". Every time he makes a second effort we're all pleased and prasie him for doing the 1%ers, but we expect that type of aplication from every other player without exeption. I thin kwhat C&B is really saying is that we cut him more slack than most other players becasue he is likley to become a great player. We dont cut other players slack whilst they are finding their feet so why do we do it for Wattsy? Guess its the upside of being a #1 pick?
  7. i understand that they'll play in the same team when they are both mature settled players, but in the mean time Im guessing the forward line will include the likes of Jurrah, Dunn, Green& Petterd, throw maric, JB, Wona and maybe Bate into the mix and you've got competition for spots. If Watts isnt showing as much as Cook i see the most likley scenario as a direct swap
  8. Fair point, although im still interested to see who cook has to compete for positions in the 18 with? My guts feel is that it would probably be Watts unless they resign themselves to watts being more of a half forward flanker / wingman for the next few years? ie Cook was drafted as back up for Watts not being the clubs next power forward?
  9. I used to like the way Ward went about it! anyway, Buckley & Vilenti were in the same boat for mine - younger midfielders who were allways going to struggle to get a run if/when we got some high draft picks and used them on mids.
  10. Great work - i'd buy one of either designs. Agree with those who say that the 1st design has the most charm due to the air jordan connotations etc In terms of copy right, im not expert in the matter but there are plenty of shirts sold in shops like "crazy Tee's" etc which are parodies of popular brands etc? Not sure if simialr shops exist in Vic, but they are around in Perth. My point is that these parody shirts that you see around and are sold in shops; Vaginamite (Vegemite), Nofriendo (nintendo) etc are basically the exact same logo as the well known brands, but they just change a few letters or words. I'd be interested to find out what loopholes they go through to presumably be able to print the shirts without copy right issues?
  11. who cares about hurley? I'm interested to track the development of Watts Vrs Cook, seem like similar type of players and importantly both play for the MFC!
  12. all in all its not too bad, but i doubt whether we'll see that side picked at any stage throughout the year?
  13. i reckon garland would be our best bet if goodes plays as predominantly a forward. He's got good speed, and go-go-gadget arms for the spoil Unfortunatley i think Bailey will give the job to Jones, who will get demolished and then tweet about how it was such a great learning experience...
  14. agreed, big loss
  15. No doubt, but you get all types of characters in a team.Blokes like scully are few and far between. Giving up Drinking completley isnt a choice many people are willing to make. Watts is 19, so he'll be enjoying life. He'll come good in a year or two i'd say. Everyone needs to chill out and stop posting about which players are "core players" and which ones could be traded, or which ones should be dropped etc - its a futile discussion. Every year somone steps up and we're supprised. Dunn has been at the club for 6 seasons or so, and in that time has played 1/2 a good year. Sylvia was also a under achiever until a couple of years ago. Frawley only really came good in the last couple of years. Jamar the same... how many of us would have written off Jamar & Dunn a few seasons ago, and theyre older blokes.
  16. just read that article too. Dont disagree with what he way saying, but my word people over analyse stats and figures these days... another article on MFC.com.au which didnt really tell us anything we didnt allready know. The worst feature is that "chat with Matt" they had last year after team selection - his responses to questions were basically good for nothing. Ie. Q: How far away is Tapscott A: Dont really know, but i hear they are taking a conservative approach with his injury. That chat set up would be alot more interesting if it was one of the coaches taking part
  17. agree. Alot of pressure for the boys to deliver this year, based on hype
  18. i'm based in WA, so apart from the game at Subi against West Coast i'll be heading across to see some games at the G to make the most of the entry to 5 home games
  19. Agree with BLWNBA, might make us look silly for pushing Jr out of the door.... I thought Jordie's season last year was more impressive than both Scully & Trengove's. No doubt we'll miss him in the middle. Hopefully we'll have another few promising player come through again this year, like Blease, Tapscott etc
  20. agree with alot of the sentiment, but you've gone overboard IMO Everyone knows he needs to start showing the goods. Being "promising" isnt going to cut it and i'd say Jack knows that more than most. We just drafted a heap of talls so theres no doubt Watts, Bate, Petterd, Dunn & Martin will all be keen to show their worth this year when they get a chance. Players like Warnock or Bate might not be in our best 18, but it only takes a couple of injuries and they'll be donning the red & blue and playing for the club. As supporters we should try to avoid bagging any player on our list
  21. very good point. Im waiting to see if dunn can back up this year As for Bate, the guy can play a role for us for sure. i wouldnt be suprised if he gets picked on a "horses for courses" basis against the bigger bodied teams
  22. agreed, i could see him getting some games in teh forwad line purpley for his tackling pressure though
  23. to me it comes down to the need to work out wheteher he's trying to get rid of the ball, or bust through the tackle... I'd prefer him try to pass it before the tackle ratehr than get half way to the ground before trying to dish off a dodgy handball
