  1. It would be a nice irony, particularly were he to play an important rôle in a win.
  2. Desire, focus >> laziness, complacency.
  3. IMO we, that is the team and in particular its so called leaders, we're just bloody complacent and as Roos said thought this would be a walk in the park. Eack and every one of those players, be it two or ten, whoever they are, must play at Casey for the next month. I don't give a stuff if that means we lose winnable (LOL) games. The club management and coaches need to draw a line in the sand....otherwise we are dead and buried.
  4. I have little doubt that he will debut this season, but not yet. Let him get some confidence in the VFL first. To whoever suggested that VFL isn't a good grounding, how many of today's young Hawks have spent several years at BH learning and maturing? Some like Brayshaw, Oliver, and probably Petracca will be ready for an early start but other particularly talks will take time.
  5. I must say I am very [censored] off by Roos' presser. Reminded me of the Neeld "didn't see it coming" ones. "Roos said a number of young Demons, including Jack Viney, Angus Brayshaw, Jesse Hogan and Clayton Oliver, looked tired throughout the day, but said there was another batch of players he thought probably underestimated the Dons." Well, didums. Some of our guys were tired in round 2! Less tired than dad's army who had a truncated preseason and a bunch of recruits? Well, Paul, maybe they need to be managed better! Tired at round 2!! FCS how will they be, presuming MFC is still in existence, by round 22? And as for the batch who underestimated the opposition - well name them, shame them, and send them to Casey for a month. Unacceptable. You and your team have betrayed the trust of the supporter base, and it will be extraordinarily hard to regain it in your final year. It would takes some extraordinary surprise performances against the likes of Hawthorn, Geelong, West Coast and Freo, but how about starting with bloody Norf next week.
  6. Seriously he hasnt lost his ability but maybe McCarthy needs to get inside his head. Appears to have a pretty poor attitude this year.
  7. Remain mentally soft and lost our trust
  8. Even IF we scrape a win from here it will only show that any thoughts of finals are totally illusory. We have a very long way to go. Haven't ever reached Roos' first KPI of being able to defend.
  9. OMG - Karl Langdon said so, therefore it is true :-(((
  10. Well the AFL has to reward Essendon for being such model corporate citizens, don't they? Can't have them suffering for being persecuted by WADA
  11. Care factor = ZER0, and before I get howled down as sexist it has nothing to do with her. TFS was, in the dim dark past, somewhat entertaining at times but ever since Newman had that disastrous face lift failure he has behaved even more like a bitter petulant has-been and I just cannot watch him.
  12. I suspect that this was a poorly expressed thought: it makes us sound like a benevolent home for NQRs.
  13. The past has passed: the future lies ahead. Wallow, or enjoy.
  14. What joy! Watching that again and again brings a tear to my eye.
  15. nutbean - you beat me to the punch. Though perhaps whilst Dawes offers a bit more physicality, Frost offers more leg speed so I guess they are not quite one for one. Whilst I could maybe see Weideman or Hulett getting a game by season's end, depending a bit on just how we are situated and where we are headed (and of course injuries) I suspect (though not ever having seen him) that Smith is more of a long term project.
  16. ....and with JW now coming good with both those attributes, (and always with far greater disposal skills and understanding of the game) is there room for both in the forward line? As I think I may have mentioned, could he be groomed like Biclavs as a RR?
  17. I think you are pretty close to the mark there. Frost in my mind is still a bit of an unknown quantity, but I suspect that he will become a defender / back up ruck if anything at all. Doesn't seem to have the smarts to be a part of a forward team, knowing when to keep out and when to jump in. Needs to tackle if his speed is to be used as a 'defensive forward'. I wouldnt give up on him yet, but he needs to decide where he is going and be told where he is needed. At the moment I think Pedo is a more useful swing man - can ruck, though not perticularly well but provides a contest, can grab a forward Mark and can kick a goal, and can fill in pretty well as a tall defender. Vey much doubt if there is room for both, at this stage, particularly with JW starting to provide a genuine tall option up forward. CP5 hopefully will provide that hard running defensive / attacking option of half forward, who "plays tall than his height".
  18. Jack has been great this year, but as ENYAW points out he has yet to play against a top team in the real competition. His whole attitude and approach looks better though. Only time will tell, and like every player there will be bad or even awful moments and whole games from time to time. It is how he reacts to these moments or games that will show his true mettle and his true worth.
  19. Just how important a part of our coaching panel is Macca? Very underrated I suspect.
  20. Memo to AFL I would really love to go to the MCG and watch my team, Melbourne, next weekend. However having just watched last week's Four Corners I cannot in conscience contribute one cent to the club that has treated its players, for whose care they were entrusted but instead used them as Guinea pigs in an uncontrolled unconscionable foray into human experimentation, with such disdain. Is there any way that I could have my entry fee totally diverted to the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute or a similar body undertaking ethical medical research? If this cannot be arranged I regret that I will be unable to attend.
  21. Quite topical over Easter weekend He was a real livewire - in another thread I asked where do we get goal assist / contribution stats. I reckon he had a hand in four or five.
  22. Oscar is out for 1-2 with an ankle injury Dunn is the obvious replacement - because I don't care I have no idea who the Druggers have as tall forwards other than ND's nephew. IF Gus is ready then could replace a very unlucky Harmes, or more likely Pedersen. Is TMcD ok? There were questions about his shoulder.
  23. There was nothing in it other than a very obvious careless high tackle free kick Still, with the MRP's history one just never knows Move on and enjoy the win.
  24. It really is a simple game that many try to make complicated. See ball, get ball. ?? And add dispose of ball cleanly and effectively, which he also did to perfection.
