AFLX Revamped
More than one mention in this thread about how this could lead to big things internationally. What is the actual strategy for this to happen, is it going to be broadcast anywhere where any decent sized international audience will see it? When Port play in China we hear about how the game is being shown locally but are the same people going to broadcast this, or is the idea to create a razzle dazzle highlights package that internationals will accidentally stumble on via social media and YouTube and decide they want to play the game? International expansion is a noble goal, but let's be honest people have been dreaming about the rest of the world taking up the game for decades and because the rest of the world is perfectly happy with the sports they already have the best we get out of it is a handful of interested people and as near to irrelevant international participation figures. If it hits big and suddenly money starts flowing into the game from everywhere you can slap my [censored] and call me Charlie, but given that we can barely get parts of Australia to get interested in Australian Rules Football you're kidding yourself if you think China, India etc.. are going to fall for it just because it's played on a rectangular ground.

No need, I enjoy manual tabulation. Also like counting votes.

Demonbracket 2019 - voting under way
Let's get past some of the sludgy prelim round games and into the big stuff then go for it. Friends, a reminder that the draw will be conducted live on Twitter @demonblog from 18:00 tonight. The full schedule will be on demonblog.com at 19:00, and posted on here shortly after. The organising committee will then determine what Monday's opening games will be.

Demonbracket 2019 - voting under way
Firstly thanks to @Demonland for accepting our invitation to be a co-presenting partner of the eighth edition of Demonbracket. Those of you who have played before won't need any further instructions, but for everyone else the Bracket can be summed up as your opportunity to make an arbitrary choice about which Melbourne player you prefer based on whatever criteria you like. It's a knockout tournament with some byes due to seeding and seniority (more intricate preview post here), where we work down to the one most preferred player on the list. Previous finals: 2012 - James Frawley d. Nathan Jones 2013 - Tom McDonald d. Mitch Clark 2014 - Nathan Jones d. Jack Watts 2015 - Nathan Jones d. Dom Tyson 2016 - Jack Viney d. Nathan Jones 2017 - Max Gawn d. Jack Viney 2018 - Neville Jetta d. Clayton Oliver The draw will be conducted live on Twitter @demonblog from 19:00 on Friday 25 January, with matches commencing 07:00 Monday 28 January. After that the tournament tree will be updated in this post, and daily matches posted for your voting enjoyment. You can either cast your vote in this thread, via Twitter, Facebook, email (demonblogger@gmail.com) or in the interests of bringing all the people together the BigFooty Demonbracket thread. Only one vote per person per matchup please. Other important rules for first time players: The voting criteria for each match-up is your personal business. It need not have anything to do with football if you don't want it to, but if does then the best of British luck to you. We won't ask questions, and nor should anyone else. Vote shamers will be denounced. Voting will be conducted between 0700 and 1900 AEDST unless otherwise noted You must cast a valid vote for every match that day or none of your votes on that day's matches will count (I'll try and remind you where possible by there are no guarantees). You must pick a winner in every match up. No half votes, no "I can't split them". Yes you can, and you must. In the event of a tie both players will advance to the next round, except in the case of the Grand Final where a replay will be held the following day. If a match features three or more players and two or more tie for the most votes they will advance with all other players eliminated. We reserve the right to refuse an excessive number of multiple votes from the same person using multiple accounts This thread will be updated with the list of preliminary and first Round matches on Friday night, and the first match-ups to vote on will be posted Sunday night. Until then, have at your speculation about potential winners. With five former champions on the list and at least five other realistic championship contenders this promises to be the biggest Bracket yet, and we're thrilled to have the Demonland community join in.

Tim Smith v Cam Pedersen
Great restraint to pick a nickname other than the obvious.
-
Meet Braydon Preuss
He looked more fearsome without hair. Get it off.

2019 Jumper Numbers
Correct. No other changes announced so far. Which is unusual. Hoping one day somebody gets a silly number and sticks with it Shaun Rehn style.

Every day not Sunday?
Good thing I saw this coming in advance and rebranded the site in mid-2018. No good for my actual life, 1.10 games are my favourite.

Best of 3 Grand Final
I've been lucky enough to get a leak of the AFL's future plans: 1 game under normal rules 1 game under BS pre-season rules with 9 point goals 1 AFLX extravaganza as a tiebreaker where teams will be able to import a star player from another team.

Team Growth
He's in the negative for laying zero tackles but giving away one goal from throwing an opponent into the fence.

Official Nicknames
No coincidence that this thread appears after Cameron Pedersen leaves.

AFLX squad
Is that Spargo on the left or a kid about to graffiti a train?

AFLX squad
All the rookies + a couple of homeless blokes found wandering outside.

Random MFC encounters
Good question, but I still have a soft spot for Kowal now. Craig can do one. Same video shop (NB: I was young) where an Essendon player came in with his missus to borrow softcore porn. What an era.
-
Random MFC encounters
In 1999 Craig Cameron came into the shop I was working in, and when I complained about Darren Kowal being delisted he said "get a new favourite player". Never liked him after that.

2019 Jumper Numbers
A player changing name for a number gag would be the best thing since we almost drafted Freddie Clutterbuck

Recruiting a 3rd tall forward to find another 50 goals?
The idea that we just have to find somebody to kick 50 is simplistic - we've just traded a key forward for a key defender, the idea is that we concede less goals because of that so the burden on one player to kick 50 and replace Hogan is a myth.

Rumour File
Remember the first finale of The Recruit when every team was wheeled in to sit there and not press a button to say they were interested in a player. Only Kochie being generous and making sure Port picked the bloke saved it from being the most farcical spectacle in TV history.
