  1. What a ridiculous statement. Absolutely delusional about where the club stands in the pecking order of an overcrowded market.
  2. Give them priority pick of assistant coaches. Here, have some of ours.
  3. Last year the club made an operating profit of $506,276 and the NT games bring in a minimum $1,000,000. We are big time on the teat of this deal and are lucky the conditions aren't there for any more games or we'd end up like North and Hawthorn and selling 3/4 games a year up there to make quick cash. It's in a small part paying for increased footy department spend, increased salary cap, for us to take over Casey, dumping the pokies at the Bentleigh Club, fielding a women's team, losing annual Queen's Birthday hosting and probably sack a coach in 12 months. I don't want to play there but the reality is we're a consistently poor club that has relied on charity three times in 20 years to avoid falling into total financial disrepair. I don't think another Victorian club will jump in on this because all the other minnows are selling games somewhere else, and now that Channel 7 has their hooks into the Alice Springs games they're going to want a Victorian club hosting, but if the NT/AFL/whoever did the dirty on us and we lost this revenue stream it would be a disaster.
  4. Poor old Fold Coast still last.
  5. Not as concerned about the surface as the wind. Unless the Western Oval is coming back what a shouse environment to develop players in.
  6. We still did pretty well from country and city zones. Battiston, Richards, Connolly, Grinter, Lyon and Tingay from the rural zone and Flower, the Healys, Eishold, Jackson, Newport etc... from the city. Not all champions but solid hands. Was it Richmond whose country zone dried up and gave them stuff all? Clubs were certainly at the mercy of the talent coming out of their area but at the same time they were expected to help with the development in their zone.
  7. Let's wait until he does it more than once and without the surprise element.
  8. All this for a player who'd never have been given a go if Essendon's list wasn't blown out of the water. Goes to show it might be worth taking a punt on a couple of random players that don't fit the usual draft profile.
  9. So we'd win the wooden spoon if there wasn't a team worse than us. Nobody's happy to be total filth this year but we've obviously run out of ways to express it.
  10. Oh no, I hear the media curse revving up.
  11. We're downhill skiers who regularly veer off the course and hit a tree.
  12. They should reduce the time Hocking talks publicly, he couldn't sell a winning Tattslotto ticket.
  13. At least if we don't win the contest halve it and create a stoppage (while the rules still let you).
  14. It would help if we could keep the ball down there for more than five seconds at a time. When it goes in-out-in-out-in-out within a minute no wonder the I50 count is so high. My easier said than done masterplan is: 1) More poise in kicking to targets - at least go to a contest instead of doing a Brayshaw and just blindly roosting it towards 50 and hoping for the best 2) Tall forwards to make contests even if not in a position to mark, try to bring the back to ground 3) forward pressure when it does hit the deck. Which is all pretty standard stuff (I'd have thought), just need the players to implement.
  15. I'm with you on this. And half the time they don't get in place for a return handball, just dispose of it and drop off the contest. It's terrible. When somebody does one it stands out because they're so infrequent.
  16. Yeah throw another kid in there, that'll help. Maybe they should buy them another NRL player. For a club that's basically owned by the AFL they could do with being taken over by the league.
  17. Still going to the pay window...
  18. Can't be McGovern, we've heard of him. Will be some bloke who has played three games as a defender now kicks five.
  19. They've got to be taking Max out. If they were going to play him surely they'd pick a proper second ruck and limit his minutes on the ball. Smells like a hamfisted scheme to me.
  20. Even just a medium size forward who can rip a ball off the pack and kick a goal. Melksham is the closest we've got and he's not getting any younger.
  21. Enjoyed the spray. Frost will have been over it five minutes later and the only reason there's complaints about it going on for so long is that the cameras focused on. Lewis and Melksham had a ripper of an argument in quarter earlier in the year and nobody noticed. I don't know about captain considering his habit of getting suspended but 100% leadership group.
  22. Maynard has no chance of making it at AFL level but I'd love him to get another go before he's inevitably delisted just for the tackles.
  23. I'd rather wait and see if this happens again next year after another trade/draft period and hopefully a decent run with injuries in pre-season then hit the dump button and go for some mystical tilt at a flag years in the future. Not against necking one big name player to make a statement (and for me it would be Brayshaw) but it's a bit premature to blow the joint up. Is this what happens when you can't exact vengeance on the coach?
  24. Cheers, I had it right on the main page (http://demonwiki.org/2006+NAB+Cup+Round+1) but botched on it that list. Will change.
