Conditions and match ups would definitely have been a factor. Beamer & Bate would sweat 12kgs in that heat.

I hope you gave a statement to the polivce. Its the only way these scumbags will get what they deserve. If not its not too late to contact the defence team and offer to assist. On another note it is interesting to see they have denied they were at fault and are going the self defence option, If this is found not to be true (ie there are plenty of witness statements to the contrary) then the sentence they will receive will be much harsher. I expected they would pull out the "I was off my head and didn't know what I was doing" defence. Or I was abused as a child defence. Or my mum wouldn't buy me a BMX defence.

Tom McDonald contributed significantly to his own injury by turning back into the pack. That said, I wish we had a player that other opp'n players feared when going for the ball. Mitch Clark probably has defenders worried because he is somewhat reckless when contesting for the ball. I think its a good coach that tells players to bring an opp'n player to ground when they are contesting a mark. You have to ensure body contact is made so that: A) the player cannot run off and at the very least it will hold up play B) the player may miss/spill the mark C) the player will hear footsteps next time Of course our player needs to keep heir feet as well otherwise it becomes a shambles. I keep thinking back to Justin Blumfield in the 2000 GF taking an easy mark with 2 Melb players bearing down on him. Zero body contact from our blokes and Blumfield ran in to score an easy goal. Sheedy would have told Ess players to bury a Melb player in the same situation. We need more mongrel.

Ironic given we are playing Freo in Freo. Everyone on the list should play because its likely we will only have 22 to choose from the way we are going...

The last 5 years we have had woeful pre-seasons that have carried on to the season proper. Momentum is huge n football and we should be aiming for the mother of all pre-seasons. According to Misson and others we have been woefully unfit and largely unable to play Neelds game plan for more than a few quarters here and there. Last year we had a false dawn with a win over Coll in the pre season but the rest were shockers. We want momentum and we want wins. The planning starts now. This season is stuffed.

The really good players get the ball and sprint 3-5 metres as a minimum before dishing off. Ours by and large don't (other than maybe Blease). We handball consistently to stationary targets 2-4m away (and often stuff that up). Players need the confidence to take the game on and they don't yet have it.

Who cares about Davey's kicking skills when he only hangs around the back of Jamar and 'dinks' a kick 15m sideways. We need an 80m ball carrier who can deliver into our fwd line. Davey has never done that.

Cam Bruce # 32 announces retirement from AFL.
jnrmac replied to gsmith12's topic in Melbourne Demons
Not the remotest similarity. Viney?? FFS he returned to Captain the side. He didn't change clubs nor hold our club to ransom and then stiff us at the last minute like Bruce. As for grace and dignity there is nothing in my post that is untrue nor undignified, As I stated he can stay away, I don't wish him any ill-will but I don't want him back at the club because he has shown his disloyalty. -

Tom McDonald has to be the outstanding positive for the year. Really warming to the role and allowing Garland/Rivers to play elsewhere has given us a lot of flexibility.

Pretty sure I heard he had re-signed with the Aints....

Cam Bruce # 32 announces retirement from AFL.
jnrmac replied to gsmith12's topic in Melbourne Demons
Bruce was offered a 12 month contract, He wanted 24 months. He walked out at a time when we couldn't even nominate him in the draft and get a trade for him. Hawthorn advised him to stay at Melbourne. He signed a 1 yr deal at Hawthorn for less money than he was offered at Melbourne. He was once a loyal servant but he blotted his copy book and its all his own fault, He has trashed any legacy he had and the results show he played 10 games in 2 years. The 2nd year of the contract he wanted he played 1 game and has broken down. As far as I am concerned he can stay away from Melbourne. -
His fwd pressure was actually very good.

Dare I say obvious comments.
-
Yeah. Give him another 70 games to work it out. Brad Miller says hi.

For those suggesting Howe and or Cloke should be given four years or more look no further than A Davey.

Yeah a real leader. Not even a good attempt at humour.

The stats don't allow for set shots, snaps etc so don't really give you an accuracy reading. A guide only.

Really? A cursory look at the stats shows that Dunstall had a career average of 66% goals, Plugger 69.7%, Neitz 65% (last 6 yrs) , Robbo 63% (last 5 years). That doesn't account for set shots and the like but I think you are wrong.
-
I clearly remember Neitz and Robbo being terrible set shots for goal in their early days. Both worked very hard to rectify their weaknesses and became elite goal kickers. Howe definitely needs to work on his kicking and we have two of the best past players to teach him.
