Who cares about Davey's kicking skills when he only hangs around the back of Jamar and 'dinks' a kick 15m sideways. We need an 80m ball carrier who can deliver into our fwd line. Davey has never done that.

Cam Bruce # 32 announces retirement from AFL.
jnrmac replied to gsmith12's topic in Melbourne Demons
Not the remotest similarity. Viney?? FFS he returned to Captain the side. He didn't change clubs nor hold our club to ransom and then stiff us at the last minute like Bruce. As for grace and dignity there is nothing in my post that is untrue nor undignified, As I stated he can stay away, I don't wish him any ill-will but I don't want him back at the club because he has shown his disloyalty. -

jnrmac replied to mrtwister's topic in Melbourne Demons

Tom McDonald has to be the outstanding positive for the year. Really warming to the role and allowing Garland/Rivers to play elsewhere has given us a lot of flexibility.

Pretty sure I heard he had re-signed with the Aints....

Cam Bruce # 32 announces retirement from AFL.
jnrmac replied to gsmith12's topic in Melbourne Demons
Bruce was offered a 12 month contract, He wanted 24 months. He walked out at a time when we couldn't even nominate him in the draft and get a trade for him. Hawthorn advised him to stay at Melbourne. He signed a 1 yr deal at Hawthorn for less money than he was offered at Melbourne. He was once a loyal servant but he blotted his copy book and its all his own fault, He has trashed any legacy he had and the results show he played 10 games in 2 years. The 2nd year of the contract he wanted he played 1 game and has broken down. As far as I am concerned he can stay away from Melbourne. -
His fwd pressure was actually very good.

Dare I say obvious comments.
-
Yeah. Give him another 70 games to work it out. Brad Miller says hi.

For those suggesting Howe and or Cloke should be given four years or more look no further than A Davey.
-
Yeah a real leader. Not even a good attempt at humour.

The stats don't allow for set shots, snaps etc so don't really give you an accuracy reading. A guide only.

Really? A cursory look at the stats shows that Dunstall had a career average of 66% goals, Plugger 69.7%, Neitz 65% (last 6 yrs) , Robbo 63% (last 5 years). That doesn't account for set shots and the like but I think you are wrong.
-
I clearly remember Neitz and Robbo being terrible set shots for goal in their early days. Both worked very hard to rectify their weaknesses and became elite goal kickers. Howe definitely needs to work on his kicking and we have two of the best past players to teach him.

Trade Talk, Supporter Fatigue and Neeld's Catch-22
jnrmac replied to Range Rover's topic in Melbourne Demons
Agree with most of this. Neeld has shown that he wants a couple of things: 1. hard bodies who can compete fiercely and not get pushed off the footy 2. multiple game styles where players play roles and are interchangeable 3. Leaders. Frankly we have been devoid of leaders since Neitz left. Our senior players have been extremely poor at leading on field particularly when we are getting thumped. Hence his choice of leaders in grimes and Trengove which is costing us in the short term but hopefully will prove to be a masterstroke. He knows you can't draft kids and expect them to compete. Good teams like the Swans and Pies have journeymen types who can play roles. The difference between them and us is that we don't have the elite stars around which these role players do their thing. And we don't yet have the elite performance culture of the good clubs. The Swans and WCE have been able to compete in multiple GFs and rebuild to be a force again. I am always suspicious of WCE and their bottoming out but the Swans I have an admiration for. Our culture is the biggest hurdle to overcome. And with Neeld and Craig we have a chance to build that albeit it will be slow. -
There is the reality however that a players such as this should not be offered 4 years. 3 yrs should be absolute maximum and I think he probably deserves that but the coin is the interesting one. Opposition supporters and commentators love him ("he's incredible") so I suspect there will be a lot of love for him at the trade table if he chooses that path.

Great. Except he has had only 51 kicks from 8 games this year. Do you think he can wave a magic wand and revert back to his B&F year form? Fail.
-
You haven't a clue,
-
Yep we are sooo overloaded with senior players. Juniors sacking was a disgrace and has cost us dearly in terms of culture and stability.
-
Oh right. Your flawed and sweeping argument was that everyone who had a pre-season should have had a great year. All players you name played in Round 1. Your quote the reason they got through the pre season, NAB cup and the first few games without missing a beat....easy really simply doesn't stack up.
