PRESEASON TRAINING: Monday 17th November 2025
This data is a bit out of date (I think c2021) but the AFL was: Harry Sharp 5:28 Jay Rantall 5:50 Finn McGinness 5:51 Fraser Rosman (!) 5:52 Dylan Stephens 6:01 This may even be the Draft Combine best but the interesting thing is that none of these has set the AFL word on fire

Jeff White on Dee’s F50 Connection in 2026
No but in fairness the takeaway for me was the focus on Geelong and what hopefully King will bring to us

Jeff White on Dee’s F50 Connection in 2026
Watch Mihocek's goals from 2025. 85% of them are from a hit up kick. Under melbourne's structure he would have kicked 10 goals.. White is spot on. Our fwds have no idea where to run. COuple that with a midfield that couldn't hit the side of a barn we were always going to struggle. Excited for what Steven King will bring to the table in terms of our structures

What does a great or innovative Board look like to you?

Bailey Laurie to half-back in 2026?
He's fit, has good evasive skills, tackles well and his disposal is generally very good. From what I have seen he hasn't delivered at senior level and has looked a bit fumbly but the pressure of not making mistakes when you re a fringe player is massive. Would like to see him get a half decent chance He's basically like Bowey but not as good overhead.

Gee the photo of Heath standing next to Culley shows how big Heath is. Huuuge. And he likes a contest apparently. Good stuff, nice pics

Bailey Laurie to half-back in 2026?
We're at the stage where everybody is starting at square 1. No preconceived biases. Train well show the coaches what you've got and if its any good you play. Goodwin had his favourites and his selection policy was a shambles so it will be interesting to see how King plays it out. I'll take him at his word and say that everyone has an even chance. Those that want to grasp the nettle now is your time. What we do know with new coaches is that at end of year 1 there is usually a decent clear out so the message to our players is simple. If you don't want to be gone at the end of the year show something solid.

Welcome to Demonland: Picks 7 & 8
This gets missed a lot. Your looking at 17yo and projecting what they may be like at 21-24 essentially Always interesting to go through previous drafts and see how many top picks never make it.

Welcome to Demonland: Picks 7 & 8
Bottom age players like Nairn are interesting prospects. They have done it tougher during the junior ranks due to being smaller, less opportunity for rep teams etc due to their lesser physical development. So to see a player perform well against physically bigger teammates is a really good sign. One to watch.

Welcome to Demonland: Pick 30 (formerly 37)
Interesting how we ranked them 1. Rowell, 2 Jackson, 3 T Green, 4 H Young, 5 D Robertson. The actual draft was Rowell, Anderson, Jackson, L Ash, D Stephens, F McAsey, H Young, C Serong, L Henry, T Green, S Flanders, K Pickett, W Day, M Bergman, C Weightman

Welcome to Demonland: Picks 7 & 8
Wasnt Trengove suspended for a 'sling' tackle against Dangerfield who claimed concussion and then played next week and kicked 6 goals? My strong dislike for Dangerfield started them. Its only gotten stronger

Welcome to Demonland: Picks 7 & 8
Interesting call. I was enthusiastic about his evasive skills and speed but he does seem to get rushed. Maybe he puts himself in that position because he seems to double back a lot and cut through traffic. Not sure that will translate at AFL level immediately. Over time though you'd think he would learn to adapt to the pace of the game

Tassie Devils Possible Extinction
I reckon this is on the money The AFL don't really want a tassie team and they are setting the bar high which gives them a face saving out 'oh we tried but the State Govt reneged' Michael Warner's great book The Boys Club lays out in exquisite detail how the AFL run rings around gormless politicians

Farewell Clayton Oliver
We really need to look at the Oliver trade on a net net basis. We got Steele at a cheap rate, the difference between his output and Olivers, the lack of distraction, leadership etc. Net net we're even maybe slightly behind on Olivers present output - well behind if Oliver gets back to his 21 form
