Our midfield is clearly the worst in the league and whilst we get smashed in the midfield and clearances we will continue to get smashed on the scoreboard. Garland has attributes that could really boost our midfield ie. he has the bulk and strength not to get pushed off the ball, he can read the play, he has the speed to break lines and he is a booming kick. We have plenty who can replace him as a defender who plays on quick smalls but desperately lack his attributes in the guts. I'd play him in the midfield next week we can't do worse

Any supporters expecting our players to make leads in between the oppositions zone you're in for a very frustrating year. Our kick in strategy to counter zones is to remain stationary in unguarded areas. It makes sense too. If a player is leading you need to kick it out in front of them, this plays into the zones favour because an opposition player will be out in front of them as part of the zone. The only movement or leads you will see are before the opposition sets up the zone in which case we will kick it out quickly to a player in space or outside the zone where cluster of players will lead and we will bomb it to that area.

Prior to today's game I have heard Josh Mahoney say LJ will (barring injury)get a game this year. After his 4 goals today I dare say it will come sooner rather than later.

Our selling point is the dire situation we are in. The closer we get to the start of the season the more dire our circumstances become, our sponsor will be seen as a saviour and get more exposure the closer we get to the beginning of the season.

I thought Bailey made the players work for their spot more so than we've seen in a decade. Yze and White certainly weren't given a spot on reputation. Bailey gave the kids a go, I have no reason to believe they didn't work exceptionally hard for their spot, it's pretty hard to come into the worst team in the league with little experience and have an impact.

Currie is a 19 year old man mountain of a kid who's had an outstanding year in the ruck. During the finals the Syndey reserves were limited in the number of sydney listed players they could play so they rested him in the forward line instead of taking him off. He kicked 10 goals in 3 games while he was resting up forward including 3 in the grand final. They wont sneeze at Jeff White as an option.

It's the same people that hated Garland. Having watched a fair bit of Newton at Sandringham I'm confident that once he kicks a bag for Melbourne he'll start believing in himself and become a special player.

Let's not get too carried away. Trav is a best and fairest winner who copped the oppositions best tagger every single week. Chris Johnson has had 1 good game in 5 or so years.
