  1. Just finished watching The Toiges and the other mob. Nearly 3/4 of the Toiges are " irrecognisables". Yet they play really well as a team. This reinforces (to me) that sometimes we are banging our heads and hopes against the wall in thinking throwing the Southern Stand for someone to come in and save us. Apart from our Senior citizens every player on our list has an upside 10 % or even 5% improvement in the ability to run both ways AND TO SEE THE NEED FOR IT would mean we would need a massive amount of flag poles to put all the flags. Look at the improvement of Harmes, ANB, Fritsch (1st yr),Spargo .JKH,SMith and Smith The upside of Hunt Stretch, Pretty,Baker, Balic,Hannan, Weidemann,McKenna and others unknown . The nucleus of our list is top quality. We just need the link men . Most important recruit would be a running coach or Strength & Cond person . Less money than a player and we keep our keepers, not shove themout the door because of Salary cap pressures.
  2. I am warming to Frost. He seems to be a lot more confident with ball in hand. Evidence was last week when he took mark and ran the line late in LQ. There is a bit of upside in our defence. We are constantly thnking Gaff is our potential saviour. We have already got one in Fritsch and Salem who will do what Gaff can do and have a fair bit of improvement in them (positively). Fritsch has been an absolute revelation and has taken to AFL very well. I just wonder where he fits on the chess board long term. I say this because I remember Roosy saying that Gus (playing on HFF) was not going to be playing there all his career , meaning he was just being blooded into the tempo. Maybe young "Sparky" is doing some prepping for a long term role
  3. I am noty going to say a thing. This is absolute great news. Gun Player and seems a great young man.
  4. Bit harsh on Tyson. Had 21 possessions working as 4th Midfielder and minimal time on ground. Personally I felt his game was an improvement on earlier in the year. Maybe it is just lack confidence in JKH because he tackle well ,delivers well (most times). I reckon he feels he is hanging on by his fingernails every time he plays. DIfficult position to be in.
  5. Cannot agree more. Just a couple of weeks ago the same people were lauding the bloke. Fair go !!!!
  6. I think the Harmes situation was a worse decision, because Harmes was running back and was a yard from the plyer. He immediately put his hands up to indicate he was not in play ,but got pinges. What was he supposed to do !!! We have two examples of rules that are not good for the game in their present form. Dangerfield is so proactive on rule changes for next year, surely his judgement is very self centred and at the best hypocritical..
  7. Recruit a spcialist running coach to teach our players to run both ways and increase stamina. That would solve a lot of our problems. Wallis covers a lot of ground, BUT does he dispose of the ball really well. Trade Dom Tyson and JKH for him. Plus a straight swap forDangerfield for Oliver ( Sorry , 2nd bottle of red kicking in).
  8. Well done with that analysis of stats Rusty Nails. Interesting that in another topic Nathan Jones is being "downgraded"but in a statistical sense still stands up very well , as does Jordan Lewis. Also worth noting that our first year "star" Sparky Fritsch is ranked 9th. Pretty good effort !!!!
  9. Agree with this assessment rather than the one that intimated we got done by 186 points. Oscar appears to be back as the fall guy again, but he is the last in line and their midfield played the last quarter really well in the way the Fwd line was so open and the delivery was to die for. Why didn't we draft Kelly ????? He is exactly the player we need ( a midside midfielder with silky delivery )
  10. Would have to agree that Omac is being blamed for the sun going down last night and failing to rise by 7.30 this morning. I can think of 5 of the goals Hawkins got NOBODY BUT NOBODY ( even Ch 7 favourite in Rance) could have stopped the lace into the middle of the sponsors logo delivery that Hawkinns got from Kelly and his mates. In one other Hawkins got a goal whilst in the ruck (so it is Omacs fault he did not go up against him and then we would be criticising him for giving away the free kick. I think Omac has been very good this year and would have learnt a lot last night (as would all our defence. Goodwins summation of the last quarter was spot on in his Press Conf.
  11. 1; Geelong's midfield 3 Brownlows, 385 All Australians . , 2018 Mature aged recruit of the year and Duncan. MFC Midfield Average 50 games each ( Clarrie Gus and Trac) and Harmes (hasn't he improved) 2 > Goodwin is right we are nearly there (which is further than we have been) 3 Fritsch ( is a fatter Robbie Flower) and Salem are potential guns. 31/2 My theory relating to Umpiring related to the demands of CH 7 has been reinforced.
  12. We need to bring our second half skill level to all our games coming up. In that way we will win at least three which will get us there. I see the Toiges rate us higher than GWS by letting them run over them and put more pressure on us to hold our spot, because that result was not what we were looking for.
  13. Do not get me wrong . How good to see top six not including Jonesy ,Lewis andJettas Good to see Trac & TMac playing good games and still not cracking the big six There are no token 5th and sixth place getters here
  14. I have not been a great fan of Frosty, but have never ever doubted his efforts. He has been better since returning because he provides abig strong bloke ib defence. However his disposal does leave a little bit of improvement. Maybe we learn to use his good points and cover for any deficiencies

    Mr Jones

Just few weeks ago we were lauding the bloke. 10 minutes is a long time in football. Jonesy now has some backup and does not have to carry the team now. Let him enjoy the ride. Ring up Gus and ask him if Jonesy is stuffed.
  16. Not often (if ever) I agree with Lloyd's summary . At last he is showing some knowledge of the game ( admittedly he has 200 pls games and 900 goals more than me, but that only proves he had the physical skills and also the fact I did not play well the day the VFL recruiters turned up at Donald U 16's) I reckon the blame is not with Tyson because he is one of the see ball get ball blokes. He is 4th in line so cannot have a big bearing on things. When he was high in our B&F he was No 2 behind Jonsey so our depth in that area is strong . It is the blokes like JKH, Stretch, Fritsch, Salem etc who we need to be moving the ball. As for getting rid of Gusa, Why would you put the three yeas of dsevelopment and rehab into a player just to trade him when he is starting repay the investment. ( I still cannot get over the Scully situation which was similar. Maybe Scully could come back and repay MFC for the chance they gave him.)
  17. Thanks for that Rusty Nails
  18. I know this is not a MFC related thing but what a pity to lose a player like that. When you look at what he has achieved : 4 Premierships, 1 Norm Smith and 3 All Australians, you have got to feel the game is poorer for such a player to leave at a relatively young age. He has changed the role of the small forward in modern football with his Lower Possession, High impact, Team things and Tackling (actual and perceived. In my opinion he is one of the games greats. Well done Cyril ( at least we have the highlights to be viewed)
  19. Once upon a time you could get statistics from the MFC site fairly quickly after the game . Early this year you had to go to AFL site, but now it has disappeared. Is there a deal between AFL and Media to hide the game stats until publication on Monday (or day after) ? If not , how can we access basic stats from the game , PLEASE !!!!
  20. It seems so have North !!!!
  21. I am sorry ,but your suggestion of making Tmac a CHB goes against one of the tenets of our current improvement. The combination of Hogan and him is our strength at the moment. The game on Friday night has been hailed as one of the best of the season because of its intensity and pressure. There is a vast differnece in playing in that environment and a game against a lower VFL side. The weakness from us on Friday was twofold : Bombing into fwd line especially in first half. DId the I50 stats good ,but only provided and a launching pad for PA Not paying the umpires the required amount.
  22. Agree, there is more to a players worth than winning the 100m sprint. One other poster suggested bringing Frost in and freeing up Jetta and Hibberd. With all trsprcts to Frosty, Lewis' footy IQ is far superior . You are not a key member of multi premierships without having a lot of footy IQ. Until we get some experience down back Lewis (in particular is a required ) Bernie is struggling stats wise ,but provides an experienced body.
  23. I think the free kick against Melsham (and the 50 m penalty) was one of the worst decisions I have seen. So by implication Melsham must stop and wait for the defender to catch up with him and then they are to race to the ball . Crap !!!! 1 on 1 contests are an iregral part of our game and the kicking to your advantage is an important skill. I usually think umpiring evens out, but ............ not otnight josephine !!!
