  1. I have to admit i am warming to Melsham for his lock down work and goal kicking. Hannan is the real bonus to us ANB was BOG in 1st half with the way he competed and DELIVERED. Even though Jack had a durty day, when it it was all hands on deck he di somther a clearance whic shws that the whole side was committeed to kepp at it. In the past heas have dropped and intensity waned, but not now it seems. Terrific sign. Should build that statue for Jetta and put it 30 m from goal just to remind us how many times he has competed and won in that crucial area, but which does not show up in stats sheet. If only Tyson and Hunt would lower their eyes somtimes. Plugger became Royce today just show his versatility. Has a brilliant tank and heart.
  2. Not often I agree with , but you were pretty close this week ( or was I ). ANB and Hannan have been the surprise packets for me this year.
  3. I really think the umpires were not just on the plane, but on the team bus for PA
  4. I like the bit where Goodwin said they had a "contested marking drill" . We used to call it kick to kick at school. How dumb are the coaches . If they had rung me I would have told them he can run all day, at a good pace and mark anything he gets his hands on. AND he is competitive !!! I am now officially a genius. As for my other favourite in Jetta . Well I cannot recall his being beaten in 1-on- 1 contests unless the ball is coming in at great height and the opponent is standing on a step ladder. What a terrific example to younger players to see a bloke who had his bags packed (and then unpacked) to develop the confidence in his game like has now. An opponent may beat him once, but never twice.
  5. Neville Jetta : build a statue Plugger Mac : David Neitz reincarnated
  6. I think that Simon's press conferences have all been excellent in that he has lucidly explained that: we are a developing team. often teams have injuries our group is learning to have trust in each other and their role in the group he will have a little chat to whoever and.... not throw the player to the wolves (Media) we have criteria by which we guage how we are progressing our idea of culture is formulated amongst our group ,not in the CH 7 /Newscorp running sheets. Well done to many unsung blokes All in all he comes across as a manager of people. Well done.
  7. Maxy had more hitouts than Cruizer (so we were lucky we won the Cruizer Cup ) Jetta : Build a statue !! Wagner improved today . Contested well Oliver : Did real good !! Petracca : 15 Contested Possessions. Did a lot of grunt work Plugger Mac ; says it all. We have had a strong marking key Fwd all along. OMac and Frosty are starting to play with confidence ANB ; best effort We had : Jones,Viney, Tyson, (Hard nut Midfielders) Watts, Salem (ball deliverers) all out. The strength of a side is the standard of its bottom 6 players. Considering our side contained some of our bottom 12 players, we held up extremely well.
  8. 6 Clarrie 5 Trac / Jetta eaxh 4 TMac 3 Frosty 2 ANB 1 Omac/ Lewis
  9. Because there were no one else available. We did very well to get out of it.
  10. You cannot believe this , but I turn on Ch7 (2) for VFL and Essendon are playing Richmond . I now have evidence that CH 7 do not know Meolb,Fcray and Sainters exist. However their commentary tem is mile better than what we copped last night !!
  11. I agree wholheartedly and the rest of your post highlights that these players need to perform at their very very best (at the moment) for them to be match leaders. When you put them up against TMac., petracca, Watts, Salem Viney etc who have that little bit of extra class , they are the icing one the cake and sometimes the icing is the best part of the cake like last week against WC (because i thought our "Lesser lights" were terrific last week but it was a bit much to realistically expect then to front up next week for a blinder. Hopefully that will come with development and I think our Development and Coaching is in very good hands indeed.
  12. At least Simon Goodwin has been upbeat (in public) about the 6 day break blocks. Part of development etc.etc. But the guts of it is that Ch 7 commentators do not even know our players and get a surprised when Jetts shows just how good he is. CH 7 determine the draw . Equity does not compete with profitability. ( I really do assume that BT and Lingy do it because they do not get paid otherwise .....) Imagine the hue & cry if C'wood , Richmond, etc got the draw that Melbourne,Footscray and Saint get.
  13. I thought Jetta was magnificent (again) Even Joe boy thought OMac was good (reading into post !!). Petracca : needs more ball => quality personified Development is a curse is it not ?
  14. You have already forgotten about Plugger MacDonald !!!
  15. If Nathan Jones was "fashionable" (or Channel 7 actually broadcast more of our games): he would be AA and could probably retire as a bloke who never achieved that, . External to Melbourne criticise his kicking ,ball handlig etc, but never his heart. When he first became Captain , he found dealing with issues pretty hard based on interviews. In many ways he really took losses to heart and personally. He seems a different person now. I will admit that Nathan used to be a two grab player and did not have the confidence to kick consistently well. However that is the thing we now notice about him is, he is now definitely a one grab player, rarely loses a one-on-one and if he does he makes sure it is earnt. Plus he now emerges/lifts at crucial, big times . The players must love him. A sign of a champion !!
  16. But let us give credit to him, because he gave everything he had for the Club. He and Jack Trengrove are quality people and we need people like that.
  17. What a disgusting thread, purely reacting to clickbait from a media type who wants to get noticed. Angus would be in our best 22 IF FIT,please let him recover wiithout the idiot element taking over. I hope the poster who suggested trading Plugger Mac to Lions has had a rethink in the last day.
  18. If I had my way (and I haven't) Ireckon the match should be between Melb and St Kilda or Footscray. Collingwood, Essendon ,Richmond and Carlton ( even when they are not winning) get all the big "blockbusters" Channel 7 do not know Melbourne and St Kilda exist hence they send BT to "commentate" and all he can do is talk about the Ice slide and Collingwood cheer squad etc, but not the footy.
  19. Let's be happy for the kid and his future !! We are too often quick to highlight certain players deficiencies ( Watts has copped it for years) The two McD's will be part of our P'ship team. TMac's bullocking efforts in the 2nd half got us into the game because Pedersen could play up fwd. OMac held up or defence As I mentioned on another post TMac only took one mark yesterday which is way down on his usual, but his work in the Ruck as a big body rather than as a ruckman got us into it.
  20. His efforts have been fantastic. He is to be admired for the efforts and team things that he does. There is a spot for him in the best 22 as 2nd big Fwd /Backup ruckman. This means that our Fwd line would consist of Petracca, Pedo, Jack W , Jeffy , Hoges, Hannan . Pretty good I reckon because it has mixture of toughness, quickness and class.
  21. A few notes from the stats: Jack Watts also laid 4 tackles today. Plus the efforts at both ends of the Ground. Everyone is excited with the return of Jesse, but having Watts as the 2nd or 3rd tall forward will be the big bonus , with Tracc as the biggest small fwd, we have got the icing on the cake. Love Hannan's endeavour OMac 2nd half in particular was great. Evn in the first half a lot of mistakes made by others get overlooked or get labelled onto OMac. Showed a lot og mental guts today. TMac only took 1 mark today, so the wuicker we get him out of the ruck the better we will become. This not to downgrade his effort in the ruck where he operated as a huge midfielder rather than as a ruckman. Grundy was close to best on ground today because he gave the C'wood midfielders a free ride in the 1st half but Tom's bullocking efforts around the sdtoppagers enabled our mids to get back into the game. If only Jayden Hunt lowered his eyes , because opposition sides have their pants down when he carried the ball into the 50m area. Just needs to assess his options better. See Point 1 above. Nathan Jones will retire as one of the best players NEVER to have been an AA purely because he is not fashionable. If ever a player has been loyal to MFC, he has. Well done. Jordan Lewis provides structure. Stats wise today was not one of his brightest, but he knows the areas to cover and marshalls people very well. We need the old blokes in Nathan, Bernie, Jordan and Cam to let our younger brigade play an exciting brand of footy. Today's game was a terrific contest which ever way you look at it.
  22. Agree with everything written. What a terrific role model. You can see that the players respect her when she interviews them.
  23. His pieces on "everything", not just footy were the highlight of my week. I hope the Age recognise this in some way.
  24. My set play for Kicking out : Vince to Salem to Watts/Petracca to Gartlett/Hogan/Hannan . Clarrie/Jack V and Nathan J could stand in the middle and smack anybody interfering or practicing their centre bounce drills. Simple game really !!
