  1. Pessimism must be very Therapeutic !! The two blokes that left were becoming so self- centred (Remember Petracca tried the same stunt at the end of last year and Oliver didn't turn up ....) I will cut a bit of slack on Petracca's attitude at the end of last season but talking of "the Brand" gave me the "irrits". I have a question as to when he (Petracca) had his "exit" interview, because he announced he was seeking to move "the Brand" somewhere else at the same time King was fully involved with Geelong GF. (Note : At his (Kings) announcement "party he stated that after the "announcement party" he was going to be 100% Geelong until AFTER the GF By this time "The Brand" had rebranded !! Would that show that they thought the Club did not matter ? ? The Good thing is we have two (plus) new players who are the epitome of TEAM PLAYERS (Mihocek & Steele) coming to us which is going to make us a better place where the young blokes can learn to be part of a TEAM instead of having to bow whenever one of the "Brands" or "yesterday's heros" walked past them. Up the old red Rooster !!!
  2. No.... it just means AFL Players need to grow up and realise that they are not the hardest done by people on earth. Look at Max & Jack V . Gus Flower etc for models rather than "Brands" & Boat rides
  3. But I cannot see why a player can sign a contract and then " in a huff" walk out on it AND the Club has to pay !!! This applies to both Oliver & Petracca Whaaaaat ! On one hand we are lauding Oliver as if he is the second coming then ........the above. Does it get him off our books $$$$ wise. Look at what Pendlebury , Sidebottom & Howe have provided to C'wood. Oliver & Petracca could contribute in the same manner if they could thonk of anyone but their own egos
  4. But I cannot see why a player can sign a contract and then " in a huff" walk out on it AND the Club has to pay !!! This applies to both Oliver & Petracca
  5. The meeting would have been part of an introduction to the player, with the coach outlining his game plan and the requirements of the roles to be played inside the TEAM. If Oliver took offence at that , just WHO is going to coach him !!!! Time he grew up !!!. He signed the contract in the first place, then got to the point where he found it difficult to exert the self discipline required to remain an elite footballer. Why in the hell are we having to pay part of his contract, when he is the one opting out. If he is prepared to go onto the open market (with no $$$ support from Melbourne then let him go. MFC are not the ones putting on a "tanti ". As employers, they are setting the workplace culture just like in "the real world"
  6. If the two Prima Donnas do not get what they want elsewhere, maybe we need some child care workers or kinder teachers..
  7. I reckon I noticed the same thing. It was the first time I had noticed a bit of "fun" about his play. Even to the extent his disposal improved ( indicating his fitness improved enough to give him "time"as well as his "clearance efforts" Looking forward to the rest of his career at Melbourne.
  8. I am really confused about how a person can sign a contract for x amount of years for $$$ . He the wants out , BUT the Club (i.e.MFC in this case) are duty bound to continue to pay that player. Could someone please explain how we could be paying a "wantouta" or "renegger" his salary and getting nothing back. What is the point of a legal contract ????
  9. HOWEVER ....... The bloke signed a contract .......got nursedf through a pretty severe injury (which limited his "psyche" for nearly half the season . Then turns around and probably will want MFC to "top up his Adelaide (or any other suitor) salary . What is happening at AFL Land where contracts are conveniently ignored . Petracca was not forced to sign for mega $$$$ but in two years (out of8 ) has change of heart !!! I have stuck up for him due to his injury but the AFL is fast becoming the wild west for legality and committment. The way things are going Grand finals will have Brisbane playing "Cotton on" ad nauseum because Brisbane's good footballers have brilliant footballers in their next generation and "Cotton on " seem to be outside the salary cap.
  10. I think a few players (Brisbane) today went into the FGF category of players. Dangerfield was not as dangerous today but is still a FGF. McLuggage and the Ashcrofts have now joined Andrews in the category. Somehow Smith went missing when the heat was on . I think he must submit his own stats. Actually his "performance" today throws the concept of judging the Brownlow with Stats to "Help" the umpires to make judgement RIGHT OUT THE WINDOW !!! ANother [censored] isa WHY DO We HAVE A F#### AMERICAN ENTERTAINER At OUR NATIONAL GAME's MOST IMPORTANT EVENT OF THE YEAR. [censored] !!!!
  11. Hey, the "Media" are going Ape ***8 over this. Buuuuuut Viney was sensational over the first three quarters (so it wasn't some bloke in the car park). FGF was absolutely brilliant in the last. However it did not alter the final result one iota !!! The way they are carrying on you would think it had cost someone the Charlie
  12. Senility is rampant at my place !!
  13. HEY !!!!!! This is a world record for the Doubters . The Bloke hasn't even started and people are into him. Even before his appointment, the bloke has a terrific reputation around the AFL, Do you honestly reckon the person is not professional enough to follow through his comittment to his current employer i.e. Geelong until the end of the season. I assume we have picked him for his competence and loyalty. Based on the arguments of some, Assistant Coaches cannot apply for a Head Coach job UNTIL the season after He finishes. This was brought up in the Media conference where he said that Today is Melbourne Day and then I am are locked in to Geelong for the rest of the season !!! Get real !!!
  14. I think it shows how out of kilter society is when there are more important issues than a persons sexuality (chosen, apparent or otherwise). Without starting a dog/cat fight why is the sexuality of a player not such a big issue in AFLW (because they are more tolerant !!)
  15. Agree with nearly everything said. Last Qtrs require confidence and our younger brigade need learning . I reckon Oliver & Petracca have been pretty good the last few weeks. Tracc is getting confidence back in his body and Clarrie is kicking better and LESS bombing. Seems fitter and happier. Provides a good base for next year and bring Rivers (after improving decision making) Langford , Lindsay and Windsor with another pre season under their belts back AND maturing bodies Feel confident. JVR puts in, and WILL make a very good player. We were beaten by a side who are well drilled, experienced and have an extra umpire (the crowd).
  16. Maybe we could extend this "precedent" to Spectators as well. (I think they are part of society). In which case Collingwood , (Carlton, Essendon,etc.)......would not be able to have many people at their games at all if it was based on the way they talk to opposing (and sometimes their own )players based on the the "standards " they now expect of players (who often are not the brightest tools in the shed, unless they have a footy in their hand). For what it is worth I do not condone speaking to people like that, buuuuuuut some perspective please !!! So......in this new world it is more dangerous to call somebody a F....t, P.... than to deliberately/carelessly charge into a player after he has kicked the ball (and put that player out of the sport.
  17. Yeh, Lindsay too. (Herbert is a smokey from Patchewallock U16's)
  18. Or have to come back from their holiday OS !!!!
  19. I think you are under-rating: Culley : Good size matured body. Seems to have ticker !! JVR : Good Size has still a bit of maturity to go (Probably has had more asked of him as a young player) Windsor & Herbert : still in "boys" bodies , but lots of potential Langford : a quiet "gun" Bowey : is a gun (albeit a pocket pistol) Chandler: has really had his first year without ANB & Spargo so is a VG small Fwd and has a degree of toughness Howes: has improved markedly , but is a little limited McVee : Still here ??? (I hope) Turner : has a bit of Sicily about him insofar as his ability to intercept. Has arrived as a regular !!! Jefferson : Don't give up on him . He needs a few feeds !! I feel he was just starting to get into the tempo required (until VFL duties took prededence ??) We need to be patient, especially the taller blokes. . Gawn was a match stick !! Kalani WHite could be potentially anything , bbbbbbbuuuuuuuuuutttttttttttttttttttt must be given time and must eat at the same restaurant as WIndsor,Herbert, Jefferson All is not lost !!!
  20. And then we criticise Howe/Melbourne defenders inability to match up on Gunston and Hawthorn forwards. Get Breuss as our Forward line coach and leave chapman as the defensive coach
  21. From afar i.e. TV It appeared that Melbourne bomb the ball to the tallest target and get over run in return. Whenever Hawthorn got the ball via mark /free kick there were 2 players running past BEFORE everyone settled down. The result was Melbourne were not in a position to defend. We rely too much on Max being able to mark. I see the previous poster has hit the nail on the head insofar as leading etc
  22. I think you are a bit harsh on Chandler & Sparrow
  23. But he copped the end result of the free run that was going from their HB, so a bit harsh. (Our forwards would make a killing if they got the delivery they got through their running in waves.) I also thought on few occasions that our blokes did not move the ball (especially in the first half) and that gave Hawthorn a chance to set up the rebound. The way they played today ,they are a really good side !!!
  24. Disposal disposal disposal. Check the numbers, because Hawthorn always seemed to have someone free AND they were aware of it. A good lesson for the younger players.
  25. What motivates/irks Buckley is that he left Brisbane thinking he was going to a Premiership Club like Collingwood buuuuuut..................... Brisbane done him in . I feel Buckley is a fairly self oriented person and the real good coaches have a broader "institutionalised" perspective. Really good footballers often fail to measure up really well as Coaches because of the inate "arrodensity" ( Yes I know Leigh Matthews was a VG/Exc Player) Chris Fagan a non player (AFL Standard) & Alister Clarkson (battler) are examples of what we need. My recollection is that Goodwin was a more team oriented player than Buckley . Furthermore he had to deal with career ending/ potential decline in 3 generational players which is pretty hard to cope with. Mark my words, a player like ANB would make a brilliant coach and for what it is worth Chapman comes across as a very team oriented person. So I would go for Enright or King !!
