Name three good things
1; Geelong's midfield 3 Brownlows, 385 All Australians . , 2018 Mature aged recruit of the year and Duncan. MFC Midfield Average 50 games each ( Clarrie Gus and Trac) and Harmes (hasn't he improved) 2 > Goodwin is right we are nearly there (which is further than we have been) 3 Fritsch ( is a fatter Robbie Flower) and Salem are potential guns. 31/2 My theory relating to Umpiring related to the demands of CH 7 has been reinforced.

Run home to Finals - 2018
We need to bring our second half skill level to all our games coming up. In that way we will win at least three which will get us there. I see the Toiges rate us higher than GWS by letting them run over them and put more pressure on us to hold our spot, because that result was not what we were looking for.

Mr Jones
Just few weeks ago we were lauding the bloke. 10 minutes is a long time in football. Jonesy now has some backup and does not have to carry the team now. Let him enjoy the ride. Ring up Gus and ask him if Jonesy is stuffed.

The Need for Outside Midfielders
Not often (if ever) I agree with Lloyd's summary . At last he is showing some knowledge of the game ( admittedly he has 200 pls games and 900 goals more than me, but that only proves he had the physical skills and also the fact I did not play well the day the VFL recruiters turned up at Donald U 16's) I reckon the blame is not with Tyson because he is one of the see ball get ball blokes. He is 4th in line so cannot have a big bearing on things. When he was high in our B&F he was No 2 behind Jonsey so our depth in that area is strong . It is the blokes like JKH, Stretch, Fritsch, Salem etc who we need to be moving the ball. As for getting rid of Gusa, Why would you put the three yeas of dsevelopment and rehab into a player just to trade him when he is starting repay the investment. ( I still cannot get over the Scully situation which was similar. Maybe Scully could come back and repay MFC for the chance they gave him.)

What the Fritsch
Thanks for that Rusty Nails

Cyril Rioli
I know this is not a MFC related thing but what a pity to lose a player like that. When you look at what he has achieved : 4 Premierships, 1 Norm Smith and 3 All Australians, you have got to feel the game is poorer for such a player to leave at a relatively young age. He has changed the role of the small forward in modern football with his Lower Possession, High impact, Team things and Tackling (actual and perceived. In my opinion he is one of the games greats. Well done Cyril ( at least we have the highlights to be viewed)

Jordan De Goey
It seems so have North !!!!

Jordan Lewis is absolutely cooked, never pick him again
Agree, there is more to a players worth than winning the 100m sprint. One other poster suggested bringing Frost in and freeing up Jetta and Hibberd. With all trsprcts to Frosty, Lewis' footy IQ is far superior . You are not a key member of multi premierships without having a lot of footy IQ. Until we get some experience down back Lewis (in particular is a required ) Bernie is struggling stats wise ,but provides an experienced body.

Delisting, Trade and FA discussion 2018
I am afraid you have either found an early drinking hole or have not been taking notice of Brayshaw's efforts. He is our outside mid !!!!! and we would be mad to lose him.

What the Fritsch
I can remember when Robbie Flower came on as 19th Man against Collingwood reserves at Victoria Park and the comments were "look at the shiela !!" because he was pretty thin and wore those "äthletic glasses ". 5 minutes later he had the ball and showed it to half the Collinwood side as he floated down the ground . The comments then changed to "Kill the shiela ". Robbie Flower was the reason to go to the footy from then on. Compared to Flower in his first year Fritsch is fat . However there is a lot about him that reminds me of Flower in that he floats rather than moves and is a lot tougher than his build indicates. A terrific young player.

Dylan Shiel
I would say we need to look after a few people currently at MFC and aim on keeping them considering the development work that has gone into them .( i.e. T@OMac, Hoges etc who are key players. From all accounts we have sold the Southern Stand for one of our "newies" Is Gaff better than Oliver, Viney, Brayshaw, Petracca ? Plays a different role than Jones . ANB , Hannan could develop into a 2020's Jones.( Remember that Harmes is probably just as good a player as Jonesy back at the same age. Our immediate problem is replacing Vince & Lewis in a couple of years.

Is Brayshaw more rounded than the Trac?
Trengove WAS NOT a disgrace. He had a horrid run with injuries which seriously hindered his development. No one could question his efforts for MFC. A Quality young man who got dealt some bad cards. Scully still rankles me (as does O'Meara). Goes to a club in draft. Shows potential, gets injured and the Club gets him back on the park patiently and then they up & leave .( Partly the AFL's fault though

Gerard Whately is a Moron
Taylor is the worst. Because of Ch7 doing the fixture he only has to know the names of Carlton,C;wood, Essendon, RIchmond and he could get by. However he cannot even do that. Last night Ch 7 "Commentators" carried on their own ïn house discussion"and forgot to even call the footy. Turn the sound off and it was marvellous. The biggest problem with Footy currently is the wall to wall commentary/analysis with an entire cohort of people trying to get their minute of media time and fame. As a result the Sport itself (grass roots) gets no coverage because it is swamped by AFL

Angus Brayshaw
Would have to agree. He is starting to get some confidence in his game. Worth noting in the last couple of weeks that we have l;ifted when Gus has been in the middle and up & about.

Come on optimists, sell me hope
Does this mean they actually read Demonland posts in the rooms at half time, because that is what they fixed. You are a virtual genius Bizkit!!!!

2018 Contracts and List Details
Three Essential players. Noted from original thread list 11 of these player had less than 50 Games at the start of the season. Time for some patience about expectations

Jack Trengove signed by Port Adelaide as a Delisted Free Agent
Gee, I hope he does make it again. Hopes with him for accepting the challenge, rather than playing "What if ??" Long term this is Port's gain because they get a quality person. Good Luck <JT

Jack Trengove signed by Port Adelaide as a Delisted Free Agent
If Jack Trengrove does not get picked up by another AFL Club, is there any chance he could Captain Casey in 2018. He would be a sensational role model for younger players coming into the game at a higher level. It would be a pity to lose a person like him from the Demons, although I could fully understand if he wanted to start a new life outside the "Goldfish Bowl "of AFL. EDIT: As of 3/11/17 Jack Trengove was signed by Port Adelaide as a Delisted Free Agent.

Glaring weakness in defence
Food for thought According to AFL Stats: Disposal % : Jetta 88% (Highest ranked MFC Player) Next OMac 79% 1% : OMac 160 (Ranked 7 in AFL) TMac 128 ( 13) : Frost 96 (29) : Jetta 87 (39) : Hunt 76 (56) : Hibberd 59 (84) Overall Player Rankings (AFL Rank up to 100) : Oliver (6),Jones (21),Hibberd (22), Lewis (34), Tyson (45), Viney (76) Contested Disposals : Oliver 344 (Ranked 2 in AFL), Petracca 236 (26),Viney 212 (38), Tyson 190 (60) and Lewis 174 (75) Hibberd (14), Hunt(20), Jones (84) and Tyson (89) were all ranked in top 100 for metres gained, but that does not necessarily include quality of disposal

Welcome to Demonland: Jake Lever
He may have good disposal /decision making skills, but wait until we put him under the microscope of Demonland requiring nothing less than perfect in 23/23 games. Then he will be tested especially when he made mistake while playing for Crows.

Glaring weakness in defence
Yes blame the defenders, when it is their opponents yesterday who were getting the ball lace out. Goody preraches a full team defensive structure, so the blame should be shared as to why Collingwood were so free in the first Q especially. On 8/1/2017 at 8:12 PM, binman said: "Probably lost in my my long posts on this thread but i have said in this thread and others that Lever would be a brilliant pick up. He would be a great addition to our side, indeed a great addition to any side. Blind Freddy can see he is a gun. Lever would improve our backline, for sure. But do i think our back line needs shoring up? No. I reckon all in all we have a pretty good back six at present. Can they improve - yes of course. Probably only Jetta and Hibberd are playing close to their optimum. What do all the others have in common? They are young players with less than 55 games under the belt and all have huge scope for improvement. With another pre season and another 6 months of perfecting their synergy and understanding of Goody's zone they will be a formidable unit. The back six are doing their job pretty well. At the risk of contradicting myself Adelaide, who have a pretty handy defensive unit, has, despite winning 3.5 more games , conceded only 108 less points than us. The back six have done well enoughl that the coaching staff have not felt the need to move Tmac back there despite the fact they have had that option, for example by playing Pederson up forward rather than at Casey. As has been mentioned by a number of people on this thread our ability to defend would be greatly improved by the whole team applying the level of pressure Goody demands - week in week out. Every bloody game. If anything our mid field needs shoring up with a player or two who can apply pressure every single game and can regularly hit a target. " We have young defenders who show a lot of promise and until yesterday peop0le were praising them however after 1 loss we are throwing them to the crocodiles.. TMac or any other defender make a mistake and it directly costs us. A poor delivery or a hooray punt into our forward line does not count as a goal against us ???? It still causes the same result in modern football. We could get Lever, Talia, McGovern, Rance, Harry Taylor etc, but that would not solve our problems. We need a Scully, Kelly, Zorko, Sloane or Ross to improve our delivery. Get Jack Watts Trac and Christian Salem on the running track now and make them the outside mids we desperately need. If we had one ofo those blokes around the stoppages, we would slaughter the AFL.
-
Josh Kelly
St Kilda will have a bookies bag to throw around with Riewoldt and Montagna retiring . SO do not count therm out. Maybe we could get Seb Ross as an outside Mid.
-
Welcome to Demonland: Jake Lever
I do not know why we should be trading our first round pick as we already had done that this year. I f we keep trading out our First round we will lose a base for our development. Having said that we must recognise that TMac,Omac, Jayden Hunt all were lower draft picks BUT Oliver ,Petracca and Brayshaw,Salem and Tyson were all high draft picks. I just do not see why we should be throwing the Southern Stand at a defender when we really need an outside mid. But then we have Brayshaw potentially , Salem &Watts if they were tried in that role and Stretch, ANB ,JKH as possibles

THE BOMBERS' DOPING SAGA - THE FAT LADY SINGS
Gee we are all so sanctimonious about a person who stuck to his beliefs and wore the penalty to his detriment. Leave him be and reflect on his football. He has been a bigger credit to the game than many of his harshest critics.
