  1. Paul Roos admitted after the end of his first year that Gus had played the year in a position that he would NOT be long term. He was easing him into AFL (but admitted that the season was too long for Angus as a young player and said he would be careful of doing it again). Unfortunately Angus was injured (and that was what it was) for the next season and a half. His return is a big boost for MFC and for Angus. Next year we may see the talent and desire that is there. I hope for his sake he gets a good run at it.
  2. And we have got the Macdonalds, Tyson,Watts ,Lewis,Vince, Jones, Oliver , Weiderman , JKH, ANB, Stretch, Brayshaw etc etc . It is a wonder we won any games at all..
  3. Let us acknowledge we are all experts in hindsight. At least he stuck with his selected club and has shown loyalty (albeit well compensated), which is more than Scully. He could not seem tho look anybody at MFC in the eye whilst he was here almost as if he knew it was temporary. Plus nobody would have wished the bad luck with injuries to one of our most loyal players in Trengove
  4. Yeh......but one with brains. Lewis was not the reason for our failure to finish in finals. In fact without his experience we would have lost a couple more. As Jack Dyer would say ,the ball travels faster in the air than carrying it. Now we have to upgrade our skills to constructively get it in the air !!! i.e. Get Dom Tyson, Hunty etc to Hodgeys kicking coach
  5. Actually I thought Watts was far from withdrawn in the 1st Q and contributed well all day. A vast improvement pre VFL games.
  6. Well in reply to stevethemanjordan IMO we need a radical change to a few areas and here's a lineup that will no doubt cause a ruckus and sometimes I genuinely think this could work. B Jetta Hogan T-Mac HB Hibberd Lever Lewis C Hunt Jones Salem HF Motlop Pedo Watts F Garlett Weideman Petracca Foll Gawn Viney Oliver Int Brayshaw Hannan Vince Harmes I feel Hogan and TMac to backline is taking away 2 of our strengths in Fwd section. Should stick with Omac as KPH and Lever (if ??). OMac is only 21/30 odd games and holding down KPD. Let him develop. 3 years ago we were hailing TMac as an AA (until Cloke stitched him up ) . now he everyones everyman. He is an elite spoiler. Has an excellent closing speed in defence and can run all day. When in FWD line he led well and is a big unit to dislodge. He is also a GREAT team man.( yes I know he makes the occasional mistake, but I will bet he bleeds over them like nmobody. Pedo (bless him ) is a depth player going forward. Should be either Pedo/Weidermann Lewis is a Poor mans Hodge role in Defence ( a floater), but I feel Maynard could fill a role on HBF) Watts/Salem/Brayshaw as outside Mids or rotating wingmen. If Hunt could refine disposal the three of them could provide enormous drive from the middle. Otherwise get him to be more accountable with his tackling and he is a Metres gained player. Petracca is too important to be hidden in Deep Fwd. Needs to be in Middle. Let Jonesy start there. Will give us a lot of grunt and be easier for him to play there and could be used as a burst player.. Angus (& Trac ) going into 3rd seasons (Yes I know they were drafted one before but both have missed full seasons) become Mids. Angus more an outside. Do not need Motlop (at his price tag) . Watts could play there (and use him !!!) or ANB as a resting fwd/mid ( He did improve markedly this year. Hannan & Harmes are great backups. JKH is still a very young player. Bulking up a bit so we could see a different player in 2018 Where is Dom Tyson? When he controls his disposal he is an elite player as well as a tough in and under . Oliver needs to handball > 1 metre. Viney needs to tighten disposal as well. I have extreme confidence in the capacity of our inside mids to match it with anyone, but they all need work on their disposal skills. That could bring them all to elite level Gawny has got to work pretty hard during preseason to get that fitness back that made him AA. Finally I have great confidence in our future despite some recent hiccups !!!
  7. What are we going to use him for --a race against Frosty. SImilar type of players although I was really impressed with him until he lost his way a bit in 2017. He got passed by Melican. That is who we should be chasing.
  8. He may have good disposal /decision making skills, but wait until we put him under the microscope of Demonland requiring nothing less than perfect in 23/23 games. Then he will be tested especially when he made mistake while playing for Crows.
  9. So far we have alluded that : OMac: is to blame for Saturday and every .other loss we have had TMac :is to blame for Saturday and every .other loss we have had Jack Watts: is to blame for Saturday and every .other loss we have had. I thought he was our only Fwd in the first half Angus B :is to blame for Saturday and every .other loss we have had. The kid has come back from nearly having to leave the game altogether. He will be good Dom Tyson : is to blame for Saturday and every .other loss we have had because he cannot kick it straight Clarrie :is to blame for Saturday and every .other loss we have had because he does not handball it far enough ANB : Because he is not fashionable . He is a developing player Hibberd : His disposal on Saturday was not good. Max Gawn : even though he won more hitouts than the Collingwood combined. I WILL REPEAT : NO DEFENCE COULD STOP THE FREE RIDE THAT COLLINGWOOD FORWARDS GOT FROM OUR TURNOVERS AT HALF FWD THROUGH POOR DISPOSAL. F i x that and we are right. We cannot trade 8 players out and expect immediate results. Lever was a part of a losing defence on Sunday so he is not a saviour in his own right which we expect our young players to be. With that wisdom out of the way, I am now into cricket season !!!
  10. Trengove could be captain at Casey. It seems his AFL days are numbered. However we need people like him around our development players @casey. . Too good a clubman and football brain to let go . Sad, that injury slaughtered any chance he had of showing his natural skills. Besides he does not desreve to be treated like *&%$ by some posters. These young men ARE Humans
  11. Gee, the knives are out aren't they. Maybe some people should let the dust settle before blae game really begins.
  12. What about the injuries to Gawn , Watts and Brayshaw (that was nearly a full season injury) as well as Hogan,Jones& Viney . Frost's strength was running, his weakness was getting rid of it. He is still a young footballer. Stretch , Weiderman and JKH are still development players Brayshaw, ANB and Hannan are also development players, but have moved ahead of a few. Tyson (Delivery), Petracca ( where does he fit ?) and Hunt (defence and disposal) TMac (as a Fwd) or settle him into defence where he rates pretty highly in AFL ranking. In our haste to crucify any player on the list we have forgotten the efforts of Watts and Peddersen & TMac who shouldered our ruckwork for over half the season. Jack Watts is not exactly built like a ruckman and must have placed enormopus stress on his body in that time. As our Coach says, we are a developing side and has consistently said it where we finish AFTER round 23 that gives us our ranking. There are still 8 sides who would like to be in our position. Already I can see next year as being better because we will learn from this experience. Let's be fair
  13. WHY ????? Yesterday he was one of our few good playersa in the 1st Q
  14. Yes blame the defenders, when it is their opponents yesterday who were getting the ball lace out. Goody preraches a full team defensive structure, so the blame should be shared as to why Collingwood were so free in the first Q especially. On 8/1/2017 at 8:12 PM, binman said: "Probably lost in my my long posts on this thread but i have said in this thread and others that Lever would be a brilliant pick up. He would be a great addition to our side, indeed a great addition to any side. Blind Freddy can see he is a gun. Lever would improve our backline, for sure. But do i think our back line needs shoring up? No. I reckon all in all we have a pretty good back six at present. Can they improve - yes of course. Probably only Jetta and Hibberd are playing close to their optimum. What do all the others have in common? They are young players with less than 55 games under the belt and all have huge scope for improvement. With another pre season and another 6 months of perfecting their synergy and understanding of Goody's zone they will be a formidable unit. The back six are doing their job pretty well. At the risk of contradicting myself Adelaide, who have a pretty handy defensive unit, has, despite winning 3.5 more games , conceded only 108 less points than us. The back six have done well enoughl that the coaching staff have not felt the need to move Tmac back there despite the fact they have had that option, for example by playing Pederson up forward rather than at Casey. As has been mentioned by a number of people on this thread our ability to defend would be greatly improved by the whole team applying the level of pressure Goody demands - week in week out. Every bloody game. If anything our mid field needs shoring up with a player or two who can apply pressure every single game and can regularly hit a target. " We have young defenders who show a lot of promise and until yesterday peop0le were praising them however after 1 loss we are throwing them to the crocodiles.. TMac or any other defender make a mistake and it directly costs us. A poor delivery or a hooray punt into our forward line does not count as a goal against us ???? It still causes the same result in modern football. We could get Lever, Talia, McGovern, Rance, Harry Taylor etc, but that would not solve our problems. We need a Scully, Kelly, Zorko, Sloane or Ross to improve our delivery. Get Jack Watts Trac and Christian Salem on the running track now and make them the outside mids we desperately need. If we had one ofo those blokes around the stoppages, we would slaughter the AFL.
  15. Are Adelaide tanking ??? AFL Inquiry tomorrow. Will shift the blame away from us ... or will Tmac still get blamed for the weather in Perth.
  16. Agree, if you were looking at this thread you would think we had done nothing ALL year and ALL game. The boys got back in it. As SG said we are a work in progress, and will learn from this.
  17. We were exposed two weeks in a row by sides that moverd the ball quickly down the ground. This made it really difficult foro uur defenders to cover the flow especially when many times we were outnumbered when they hit the 50m mark. Two way running is a very important part of modern footy. I felt Lewis was our best player today, because he covered a space and used the ball constructively by hand (rather than the dinky 1 m handballs that do not clear the area). Jayden Hunt was a lot better after 1st Quarter becvause he covered his man. Jamie Elliott was BOG in first half, but i think Hunt or Jetta shut him down a fair bit. Pretty hard for our defenders when the ball is coming lace out to you from an uncontested possession JW was very constructive with his ball use today and was amongst our best players. OMac stuck tyo his task very well. I feel very sorry for TMAcx, because he deserve a better reward for the efforts he puts in. ( Yea I kno he made mistakes (2) but they were made with the best intentions. As Simon G has said all the way along, we are developing side and evne if our season ends today then we have made progress.
  18. Gee, we get on the bike pretty easy. We only lost by 19 points so there must have been some positives. Petracca: Brilliant at times/Missing at times TMac : playing without confidence Midfielders : too many easy entries into Cwood fwdline ALL : 2 ay running required Watts : DId something constructive with the ball
  19. Explains his low possession /tackling (for him ) last few games. ( he did not get a kick last week ) Could we trade him for Seb Ross until the end of September. Then he could come back and if Seb liked us , he could stay. (Would take some negotiation)
  20. Good quantitive stuff !! I do wish Metres gained was included in MFC Stats sheet. One of the first stats I look at are 1% ( Defenders ijnvolvement) and Effective disposal %. I bet there is a Cyril Stat (which Mitch Hannan is working on) in taps to players ,not hanballs. SHepherds seem to hjave gone out, but commentators aften remark on a player making it easier for another to take mark, clear the area etc.
  21. St Kilda will have a bookies bag to throw around with Riewoldt and Montagna retiring . SO do not count therm out. Maybe we could get Seb Ross as an outside Mid.
  22. I do not know why we should be trading our first round pick as we already had done that this year. I f we keep trading out our First round we will lose a base for our development. Having said that we must recognise that TMac,Omac, Jayden Hunt all were lower draft picks BUT Oliver ,Petracca and Brayshaw,Salem and Tyson were all high draft picks. I just do not see why we should be throwing the Southern Stand at a defender when we really need an outside mid. But then we have Brayshaw potentially , Salem &Watts if they were tried in that role and Stretch, ANB ,JKH as possibles
  23. Maybe Brayshaw plays the role Salem does. Hense In : Watts to gi ve us better link to Fwd line ,Viney (IF FIT!!!!!)( cause he is captain) Out: Wagner ,Stretch
  24. DId you notice Pedo put his hand over Tracs mouth at one stage when he was getting frustrated with umpire decision. He just has to realise that AFL footy is more than pure talent.
  25. Eventually with Hogan and Weeds in Fwd line ,they will work together and the misfield will have to decide which is in a better position. NOT two of them in the same spot. Geelong had a good win earlier in the year where Hawkins was the "decoy" and Harry T kicked the goals. This works if there are crumbers at the feet of both. We have got to learn that. Part of the development phase.
