WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB – JAKE MELKSHAM
Ron Burgundy replied to Theo's topic in Melbourne Demons
Just another element that Roos nailed for this club. Goodwin could very well be the league's next Clarkson - different style obviously, but equally as effective. Already love the bloke and what he has contributed to this club thus far. -
Realistic Trade Week Results (Wish List)

I actually think Matt Jones is worth something. To us only though. -
The Jesse Hogan Panic Room - all contract talk here

Thanks for the update GNF. Between the absolute carp on this thread, it was good to read this. -
Exactly. The difference is shown in their recruitment of James McDonald. We let a club Captain go so that we could play kids. That proved to be a top strategy.

Absolutely. The Kangaroos would love our YOUNG midfield talent. They need to regenerate their list. We've done that. We, however, could do with a couple more experienced mids for a period of time.

Would expect Hanley or Zorko to be thrown in as well. Surely.

I think Jesse is probably a bit beyond receiving this type of award (even though he is obviously still young etc). I suspect they also wanted Hunt to get some recognition, given that he did not receive a Rising Star nomination during the season and Petracca, Oliver and Harmes did. I seem to recall that Roos commented on this a few weeks ago in a what that suggested the club thought this was a bit unfair.

Mitch Clark - did we dodge a bullet?
Ron Burgundy replied to thesleepinggiant's topic in Melbourne Demons
I probably know a bit more about banking and capital allocation than I do about AFL list management. -
Not sure if this rumour is true, but, if it is, I think it makes perfect sense. I want to see us play finals next year, and we've repeatedly heard how young the side we've fielded each week has been, and how this has probably been the difference in certain games. Has to be some short term room in our list for a quality player with a lot of experience right now. Pretty confident GWS don't regret recruiting Stevie J. Hope we land him.

Mitch Clark - did we dodge a bullet?

I thought we nailed it by trading pick 12 for Clark. Before he mucked the club around, I really rated him. He was unbelievable before he was injured. Don't agree with the venture capital metaphor though - VC is spent on the speccy trades for not much outlay and the rookie draft. Higher risk settings on return on investment in that zone, but, if it does, it could pay off royally (albeit unlikely). Playing a player mega bucks and trading a first round pick attracts the tier one capital, not venture capital - there shouldn't be that much risk at the very top end of the trading spectrum and the return on investment in this zone should be pretty secure/safe. Ultimately Geelong and we spent tier one capital on an asset with big wrinkles. Not a particularly sound investment strategy. -
Interesting that we bid on Mills and Heeney. Taylor knows what he's doing.

It's just horrible watching that. Truly cringe worthy stuff.

The Jesse Hogan Panic Room - all contract talk here
Ron Burgundy replied to Grapeviney's topic in Melbourne Demons
I reckon he'll stay. That said, he should watch Open Mike with Paul Roos and check out the bit on Roos' time at Fitzroy to see what club loyalty and good character looks like. And IMO this stuff is important. It's why movies like Platoon, Gallipoli and Breaker Morant still make the heart beat faster - certain people can't be bought. Their character is what defines them. Just sign up to the cause Jesse and be done with it. -
He's no longer the coach.

Scott Thompson - Would we welcome him back?
Ron Burgundy replied to The Backyard Charizard's topic in Melbourne Demons
Yep. -
Particularly when the guy is super well regarded by the players and staff, and he has expressed his strong desire to stay at the club on a significantly reduced contract despite interest from other clubs, presumably on more lucrative terms

Grimes and Trengove future rests with Goodwin
Ron Burgundy replied to dazzledavey36's topic in Melbourne Demons
Could not agree less. I would absolutely offer them both one year contract extensions. Not on very much coin though. -
Nope. He's a required player. For the MFC.
-
Understand the sentiment rjay, but I can't agree. That was a pathetic loss. They weren't switched on from the opening bounce. It was a very important game and they failed to deliver - a win is exactly what we needed. Everyone had a shocker including the match committee. The list is obviously young and talented, but it's a reminder that it's still young and inexperienced.

Dropping Pedersen was the wrong decision. -
Geez I hope Pedo gets another year.

MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 22
Ron Burgundy replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Ditto this post. -
I agree. The interesting issue is who exactly we now have in our sights. Our recruiting strategy is pretty astute/considered these days. And some of the holes we clearly had this time last year seem to no longer to be as apparent anymore.

MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 22
Ron Burgundy replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Perhaps Michie to get a run this week (replacing Harmes) - he's been exceptional by all reports at Casey. And ANB the week after - he had a belter against Geelong at Kardinia last year and has been the form player in the VFL all year. I don't want to see too many changes to this list at the end of the year. It's in pretty damn good shape.
