Whilst I am opposed to censorship, this thread almost warrants permanent deletion from the site. Jones is one of the best Captains in the competition. He is a fantastic Demon, a great leader, and he deserves/commands our respect. And yep - he had a poor game today. Unfortunately he wasn't the only one.

Was Dave Misson the fitness coach back then? I seem to recall they had a simply ridiculous run without any injuries to key players for the entire season.

Jack Watts signs for three years (21/7/16)
Ron Burgundy replied to dazzledavey36's topic in Melbourne Demons
I don't agree. Watts is closer to AA selection than either of those two this year. Not hard in the case of Hurley this year, to be fair. -
MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 17
Ron Burgundy replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Need runners this weekend. Must select a very fit team. -
Yes. Even if some may argue that he's not been our 'best' coach, I think it's hard to argue that he's not been our most 'important' coach since Norm Smith given the circumstances in which he came to the club, what he was briefed to achieve, and what he has actually achieved in terms of culture, stability, the personnel that he has brought in etc. Roos has turned around this club quite incredibly. We were an absolute basket case when he came in, and in no time at all he's transformed the club such that we now have an exciting young list, an elite coaching group, and, most importantly, genuine HOPE for the future. I love the bloke. The Reverend next.

How do we get Prestia AND Hibberd to the club?
Ron Burgundy replied to watchtheeyes's topic in Melbourne Demons
Kent's clearly a required player. He's also good mates with Hogan, so splitting up the brigade may not be the most sensible thing to do in order to attempt to get a player like Prestia. Would be super happy with Hibberd for a second rounder. And I'd rather the club target Rohan over Prestia if we're about to make a play for a high profile mid. -

Yep, I regard this as one of my greatest life achievements. To date, at least. -

I'm pretty proud of myself on this one. Like a few others here, I have been a huge Watts' fan for literally ages, through thick and thin. On balance, mainly thin. He was rated the first pick by the majority of clubs in 2008, despite the derision he has endured ever since. I'm confident he will prove himself to be the number one pick from the talls in that draft. With Hurley second. And Nik Nat and Davis after that. A whole stack of super handy mids such as Sloane, Hannebery, Hill, Hartlett, Rich, Sidebottom, Zaharakis, Motlop, Beams, Redden also came out of that draft. Can't help the observation that we absolutely stuffed up that draft. Except for Watts and Nev. Sign up for 10 Jack. -
This reminds me of that hilarious Alan Partridge skit involving Domingo from Little Oakley ...

The Jesse Hogan Panic Room - all contract talk here
Ron Burgundy replied to Grapeviney's topic in Melbourne Demons
Most people in the village are idiots though. So, this means nudda. It's just stupid people talkin' stupid. Hardly remarkable stuff. And not much turns on it. I reckon he's a certainty to re-sign. -
I think Matt Jones is a handy player and he is underrated by many here. I hope he gets another year. He's quick, he's fit, he's hard at it and he generally has clean hands (that one horrendous fumble aside). He just needs to eliminate the odd brain fart from his game when he gets slightly indecisive and delays taking the first good option. Frost and Oscar McDonald do much the same thing. Perhaps it's just inexperience.

Absolutely agree. For an 11 gamer, he looks like a top 5 draft pick. He's got a lot of the required attributes.

Seen any footage of Jeffy Garlett?
-
I agree. I hope they're looking super closely at Gary Rohan.

Two more years. Great news obviously.

I really hope Jack Grimes gets to play 100 games for this club. There are very few players before him that deserve it more.

Almost brings a tear to one's eye.

We did. His name is Nev Jetta.

Greater Western Sydney (a dynasty to rival the Hawks)
Ron Burgundy replied to Diamond_Jim's topic in Melbourne Demons
Exactly. There's a lot of small-minded parochialism here which, if you took it to its logical conclusion, would have the competition still firmly rooted in the VFL playing at suburban venues throughout Melbourne each week - and, relevantly, being absolutely irrelevant given the competitive landscape that is football in Australia. I've been impressed with GWS. They have been ultra professional and have done well in unfamiliar, indeed hostile, territory. Their club song is one of the best (composed by a Demons supporter) and they seem to have developed a decent club culture from a blank canvas. In short, they are a competent organisation. Until the Roos/PJ era, they made us look like the completely amateur, laughing stock that we actually were. So much for tradition simply getting you a seat at the table, which many here seem to think is good enough. Yep, GWS have had a leg up. But honestly, what do people think it would actually take to pull this off - simply relocating the North Ballarat Roosters to NRL heartland and saying good luck fellas ... -
The club is clearly well managed now. The club now has a competent and effective coaching group which has a clear focus on the correct things: developing a strong and competitive culture, player development, building a modern and sustainable game plan, recruiting competitive players etc. We also now have competitive and talented list. Albeit it is super young and, across the list, it does not yet have the benefit of a lot of AFL games and, relevantly, many AFL games together. I suspect the coaching group is secretly very pleased with the progress thus far this year i.e. that this group now has so much depth and that the team has been more than competitive in several games this year against much more experienced opposition. This year was always another development year. The future of this list, and the club, is still in the years to come. The foundations are now however in place.

I was at the game on the weekend. The conditions were horrible. Garlett was a simply terrible omission. It was one of those games where a midfielder could simply have kicked it into an entirely empty forward 50 and it would've been a clumsy sprint between players to get the ball. Sections of the ground were literally unoccupied for big chunks of the game. The conditions and the small ground would've suited Garlett perfectly, irrespective of his form over recent weeks. In fact, it probably would've been the game that would've got him back into form. We had a stack of forward 50 entries for no return. Garlett kicking two or three of these type of goals would've been want we needed - and I have no doubt he would've done this on the day had he been selected. He kicks these types of goals without even trying. We pick the wrong team all too often.

Bernie Vince can accept $1,000

Put your house on Bernie for the 3 Brownlow votes against the Crows. -
Salem will be a gun for us. For many years. He's such a clean player. And he's brave. He'll be back. In a big way.

Yep, this is absolutely crazy.

No thanks.
