  1. The issue is that the AFL put profit above everything else, including integrity. The never ending drive to wring the very last buck out of every opportunity is the reason we have a compromised fixture and contorted tribunal findings when it's "stars" are on trial. Had WADA not been involved there's little doubt the Essendon drug saga would have been swept under the rug and it's why they didn't insist on Eddie Maguire's removal from the Collingwood presidency after he compared Adam Goodes to King Kong. Also, I'm not aware of any other sports that slap adverts all over it's goalposts, goal square, ball, centre circle and field of play.
  2. Taking unsubstantiated MFC rumours and allegations out of the mix really has seen us struggle for topics to discuss this off season.
  3. Becoming a 'big club' won't necessarily see us avoid trips down to KP. We'll still need to become bigger than at least some of the existing 'big' Victorian clubs and push them down the pecking order. You can probably guarantee that each of Footscray, North and St Kilda will be playing down there for the foreseeable future. Then there's us. Now that Carlton are up and about again we should probably be setting our sights on overtaking Hawthorn. A win for us would be Geelong choosing to host their Easter Monday game at KP every second year with their new increased capacity.
  4. It’s that time of year again when 30,000 nuffies post a picture of exactly the same membership pack on social media.
  5. We could have a round 1 prequel and all participants get a bye in round 9 and 3/4.
  6. Navy blue with a red yoke. Didn't see that coming.
  7. I don't know. I never said I did. It's a thought using Collingwood as an example. Given that small percentages can be the differences between a win and a loss, would Geelong rather.... $1 million profit (ie) & play reigning premiers at Kardinia Park. $1.2 million profit (ie) & play your allocated home game against the reigning premiers at their home ground.
  8. Whilst some other clubs prefer to hoover up all matter of human detritus as a business model being a good person seems a be a prerequisite to join ours. As Goody said this week, culture sits above everything else.
  9. With the increased capacity there also needs to be a larger % of seating assigned to the visiting support. Particularly Melbourne based opponents. There should be a section of the ground where seats are not allocated to season ticket holders and instead are sold on a game by game basis, say 3,000 perhaps. These are first offered to the away side and can be purchased through the club by their own members, one bay at a time. Any that remain unsold by the Thursday of a Saturday game for example can then be purchased by home fans.
  10. With the new 40k capacity down at KP and the enormous match day revenue the Cats rake in you'd think they'd now be at a point where they'd rather play the best sides down there rather than give away their big home ground advantage to the likes of Collingwood, in particular. I'm sure that given a choice they'd play 11 games there a year so the away games at the G thing must be an AFL directive.
  11. Hard not to like the guy. Shame he's no longer a Dee.
  12. Love it. We should have an MFC presence in international arrivals ready to hand over a supporters pack to every ‘New Australian’ emigrating to our state.
  13. WC think they’re kingmakers? Let them keep pick 1 and all their later rubbish picks and we’ll look forward to another 10 goal win at Optus next year.
  14. If this money falls outside the salary cap it might help keep the girls squad together for at least another season or two.
  15. A few passages from the article without copying the entire story. Demons coach Simon Goodwin’s quick thinking has saved a man’s life in Bali, coming to the rescue after the man dislocated his shoulder. Goodwin was in Bali after the end of the AFL season and surfing with mates including 1993 premiership winner Rick Olarenshaw on the island of Nusa Ceningan. The Herald Sun reported that a young man jumped off a cliff into the water but dislocated his shoulder. The Demons coach rushed over to the man and dragged him onto the surfboard and took him to safety beyond the break. Goodwin then flagged down a passing jet ski and helped the man onto it to get him to safety. The father jumped in the water to help his son, and recognised Goody and started talking footy. Goody’s response was let’s save his son first then chat about footy later. Goody showed a lot less bravery when a sea snake came across his path.
  16. If some on here are to be believed it’ll just end up going up their noses anyway.
  17. There's no reason to think that Fishermen's Bend won't end up as the same soulless, windswept, high-rise concrete wasteland occupied by short term overseas students that have little or no interest in our indigenous game, just like the Docklands precinct currently is. Anyone that doesn't think this is giving too much credit to urban planners, developers and politicians.
  18. Sheez. It looks like we're back to debating this again now that the Claz & Smithy threads have been taken down. If Caulfield is the preferred option it would be good to include the facilities required to play pre-season AFLM and in season AFLW games here as well as you'd think it would see a sizeable increase in gate figures on the back of it's far superior transport links when compared to Cranbourne.
  19. Is there an updated ladder for this? It's not even on the AFL website from what I can see. There's a chance that the % difference between us and Brisbane may well be too great even if they beat us in Round 10.
  20. Or perhaps the Great Pacific Gyre (or it's cloud based equivalent) where all the world's rubbish (threads) end up waiting to be collected and repurposed into a less toxic narrative.
  21. What happened to the Cultural Issues at the Dees thread? I’ve just finished a quality sesh at a microbrewery in East Brunswick to find it has disappeared?
  22. Hawthorn appear to be accumulating more NQR tat than the bargain basement at Dimmeys.
