Revisionist History - Luke Jackson to Freo
Rab D Nesbitt replied to ElDiablo14's topic in Melbourne Demons
Had no intention of staying and some might argue he'd already checked out during his final year with us. Hasn't pulled on the red & blue jumper for almost two years now. Won a flag which will hopefully be his last. Time to let it go. -
Just turned on the footy to see that Carlton are getting humped and Curnow has just hobbled off the ground. As Bruce McAveney might stay. Delicious!

I walked up to Ardeer (rail replacement buses on the Watergardens line) to catch a v-line service and when I boarded they announced that it was a 'football special' service that went express straight to Southern Cross in 15 minutes. It went right past the line of schmucks waiting for replacement buses at Sunshine station. It was also three quarters empty with nobody wearing any football colours onboard. MCG concourse was like a ghost town, just like the Giants game. We had our entire row in N53 to ourselves and no lines for anything inside the ground. It wasn't even cold as I sat in a jumper without a jacket for the entire night. Even the unavoidable replacement bus on the way home was full of sad sack Essendon supporters. It was a Kolt set shot away from being a perfect night.

As has already been said, a great effort but poor execution cost us another very winnable game. Port's skill level was barely any better. I feared we'd get touched up tonight so don't feel too bad. Hard to see where we were going to get our goals if not for Kozzie though. Another pathetic turn out for another home game meant no queues at the bar or the loo again.

Hi WCW. Fortunately I'm within walking distance of Ardeer station on the Ballarat line as well as a metro line so can avoid the bus. At least on the way in. It wouldn't surprise me if we get rolled in all of our remaining games but we all live in hope.

Didn't see the interview you're referring to ET but what you say reminds me of Rick Lever giving off similar media sound bites whilst still at the Crows when in reality our recruiting department had been working on getting him to the Dees six months out from his eventual move.

Unlikely as Carlton will have already won the Fair Play finals spot for the team with the least amount of player suspensions over the home and away season.
-
Carlton v Collingwood knockout final at Traeger Park in Alice Springs. Please make it happen.
-
Collingwood and Essendon likely finishing 9th & 10th this year was the sealer on the deal.
-
Don't forget to put the key under the mat too. Last home game it was my turn and I nearly forgot.
-
Quite happy with that result. Blues now a game and a half out of the top four if Brisbane win tomorrow. Important since they have WC away and St.K to finish their season. If Hawthorn lose tomorrow but beat Carlton the following week they could both end up miss finals. Along with Essendon, Collingwood and of course rock bottom Richmond. How sweet.

Didn't Fitzroy beat league leaders North Melbourne by 150 points at the Junction Oval in the early 1980's?
-
I don't think I've ever seen anything like this before. And I've followed Melbourne for most of my life.

Left early enough to miss all the dogs fans on the train. That’s a win yeah?
-
I'm bracing myself for a thumping tbh but hoping for the best of course. Dogs off a five day break should help but they have their tails up right now.
-
Do you have buffering issues on the international space station CHF?
-
Marvel tomorrow night. Get your lame excuses valid reasons in early.
-
If it has to be a Victorian side then I'll be cheering for the Dogs, although they'll probably have to win every game between now and the GF so unlikely. If it has to be an interstate side then probably GWS as nobody outside AFL HQ will GAF.

Bowie is actually pronounced as Bowey.

Not us.

You're right. There's always a media / AFL wånkfest early in the season about trying to break the round's biggest attendance record helped along by sending the likes of Collingwood to GWS and Carlton to GC.

I don't think I'll ever get my head around this discussion. In the UK, thanks to 14 years of Tory rule there's now a food bank in every town and city. Despite that, just last week my football team took 7,000 fans down to Birmingham on the Wednesday and a similar number to Berlin on the Saturday for two pre-season practice matches. It's estimated that 250,000 of our good citizens (that's 5% of our population) travelled to Germany for the Euros to support the worst performing team at the tournament. I think that sport participation rates here are really high, not so much to spectate.

It wouldn't prevent you logging on to buy your finals tix BA. It would just add people who regularly attend most home games to the mix. I think each competing team get something like 17,500 for a final, perhaps more if it's against an interstate side. I also understand that a lot of category one members have been paying for the GFG over a lot of years knowing we haven't a hope in hell of playing finals. Level 2 in the Northern Stand was three quarters empty on Saturday night and that area would make up a sizeable chunk of our category one members. It's not for me to tell people how to best spend their time and I enjoyed not having to queue for a beer but there's no doubt it's a bad look.

I have a season ticket that gives me access to priority level one finals tickets but I wouldn't be against our ticket allocation being weighted towards season ticket holders of any level that have attended the most home & away games. It should at least count for something I think. Perhaps a minimum threshold of 7 out of 10 home games to qualify? Just a thought.
