  1. this should be the reference point, and we're taking on more wage too... but the personal challegnes and perceivable output might push against that compared to treloar, but he also wasn't an AA or award winner at all at the time
  2. whats his tackling pressure like? i always thought at GC him and lombard would play the gryan/mannagh/close role at the suns with the mids theyve got but seems he doesnt want to settle for that. do we see him as nibbler/spargo or as viney or does he have butters gulden potential? we're good at doing this and then pies/hawks/blues swoop in please not again
  3. i think he slides way further back than that
  4. i think what seperates good sides and average ones is when you can draft ahead of your needs, lions already had morris and even henry smith on board when daniher left and already had gallop when hipwood went down, or already had fletcher when kiddy did a knee and had the ashcrofts when berry does a shoulder and neale does a calf. geelong did it with shannon neale into hawks spot, he was already 3 years in and ready to go. so i look at our list next year and we have mcadam, sparrow, melksham, fritsch, chandler, mentha, johnson and hederson out of contract, so we should be adding small forwards this year like dovaston or latrelle pickett so they are second years when we move on a bunch of those names (obviously some stay) we didnt do this well with ben brown handing over to JVR and El Jefe and we aren't doing it well in the rucks either. We may get away with it for our key backs because petty did his apprenticeship and was right to go when tommo went down initially but also finding turner was a saving grace otherwise we would have been in some form of all sorts there too. the most important part of a rebuild is the spine, the roos did this wrong in the last 5 years and until they picked whitlock last year they were relying on stop gaps and NQRs in key spots, coleman-jones, teakle, pink, corr, dawson all busts. they took one tall in the first round shotgun dawson and he's struggled to come on after a good first game. dons got unfortunate with injuries to reid and hayes and i suppose to cox (hes just not very good too) they still paid up for caddy but need him to be two years more advanced than hobbs/perkins/tsatas rather than vice versa so probably need to reassess there so that when the talls are peaking they have what the blues had with weitering tdk curnow mckay and then build around that with walsh cerra and co, thats obviously burnt to the ground now however i think they followed the process correctly
  5. nope this thread has been derailed to be just heresay now unfortunately, will need to find a new bible to refer to if you would like the facts of our list
  6. think its definitely on par, a player with 6 games of 21+ disposals in 65. he is afl standard yes but has a ceiling, for an OOC player i think its clean enough business, the notes about first pick of second night are definitely interesting adds more value to it, can comfortably slip 2-3 spots and get a pick in the 30s next year as collateral, over to you JT
  7. geez you're a melt, honestly your reaction just about rivals his, not sure how many times you've found yourself the centre of an entire countries media for 9 years running, critiquing your every move, clearly its taken its toll on the poor guy, u have to feel for the human element of it, end of the day hes just a bloke who wants to play footy and he's cocked up once or twice and being ran through the absolute wringer for the umpteenth time. i hope he lands at the giants and has another 5-6-7 solid years, get him in with hoges he'll look after him. the redemption could even be better than the original
  8. i reckon LJ might still be in play you know, i think with all the collateral and picks we get we could throw something big at freo, also could make another play at harley, its just so Lamb coded to move for old targets, just look at the humphrey pursuit. otherwise i still think the play for pick 1/2 and duursma is on, played for casey, victorian, versatile HB/Mid it just is on brand to push up the board for that type of player
  9. It is interesting how deep we are cutting the list in the weakest draft on record* Oliver, May, Petracca, McVee OUT on top of the exits already confirmed and with only Heath and Mihocek coming back the other way (given such deep cuts Woewodin probably gets 12 more months) We're looking at 31 Senior 4 A and 1B (ok two B for the berry believers) Meaning we have 7 spots still to fill (5+2 OR 7+0) and I'd be shocked if we wanted to take more than the minimal 3 draftees (2 + Kalani or MAYBE could see it being 4 if we take Sinnema in the ND if we are likely to think he would be given a 2nd year as a rookie anyway to properly develop) So even if May doesn't leave and with White locked in that would still be 5 more spots to fill. thats ALOT in a weak draft. compared to some years when players are chopped early clubs will be more willing to back what they have this year (meaning next year they'll probably cut deeper if the draft projects better providing better DFA opportunities) this year theres just no delisted players who intrigue me at all. so where do we find 5 players from? do we carry 1 or 2 spots into PS or even the MSD?
  10. probably we swap selections around and get some going forward or back or futures or what not to help them get the hand they need to do what they need and us to get up the order or an extra higher pick next year or what not so almost certainly will take time
  11. too much like spargo, the HF that doesnt really impact scoreboard or with ball in hand but bobs up every 6 weeks with 3 goals to keep the selection heat away
  12. shame we missed out on gresham when he moved, would perfectly replace spargo at HF
  13. Clarry out paying 700k for a top10 pick in ala bowes and pick 7 trac out top 10 pick and later first rounder next year go to WCE and say heres 2x top tens this year tell them those duursma's hate being interstate youre wasting your time taking them he'll leave in two years like X did and Yasmin. draft Willem (has the casey links) OR they think Duff-Tytler has LJ type potential and he's our man we know Lamb only shops at the top of the order i think this is what theyre thinking
  14. je ne sais pas 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️
  15. weitering very stiff here, worse than himmelberg and hipwood is laughable, probably better than mckay too
  16. for comparison on how Lamb spoke, i think he actually was more honest and open and gave more away than Freo did, having said that we probably have more to do than they do this period therefore making the video naturally more open and easier to discuss
  17. good write ups and explanations on the clubs choices and why he's taken them where he has, not sure if you missed it or not but he actually has us making the Zac McCarthy bid from the filth first and then falling back onto hertherton, i think id rather pickett then and curtin or hetherton (they think he'll slide given injury affected year) later and then at the end of the draft have a look at Voss or McFadyen as mature age rookies
  18. The overall rankings based on an average across the main predictors
  19. i dont think there are any players left this year that are overly appealing in a trade sense, we should be looking at what we can do for next year. If we can get Answorth, Bailey, Lewis, (all FAs) add another 1st rounder or 2 suddenly we have resolved the 22-28 age gap on our list and puts us in the market for 5 years of success, maybe see if we can get to Bergman 12 months on. Gardiner, Justin McInerney other options who should be on our whiteboard. Lets take first round picks and then we can sell them on to academy teams, FS teams or use them at the top of the darft
  20. i completely disagree, its necessary to grow the game in multicultural backgrounds, the ability to list non drafted NGA prospects from other clubs is huge too as you arent entirely being shafted by a poor zone. also talk about conpromised when the afl is handing west coast mid round picks that perfectly amount to what they need to execute pre-established trades and these tassie handouts where they must trade picks even if they can't find a player they like and might prefer to draft players and then get to roll them if they dont like whats on offer, could be 2035 before they actually use them, thats compromised. NGAs you now pay fair value and are responsible for having significant contributions to their development, they have corrected eligibility to take out the aussies whos parents worked overseas and were pregnant and have added South american and pacific eligibility giving us Ah-Mu's brother as an option down the line. then theres the locked Cat B spot for NGA rookies meaning we can have mentha and berry as B and still list Sinnema as B too therefore having 3 Bs (how i read it anyway) or maybe mentha also being NGA and not irish/basketball instead cancels that out im not sure
  21. afl.com.auAFL cracks down on player eligibility in NGA revampClubs must spend more time with Next Generation Academy prospects and register their interest earlier in order to get priority draft accessthese are positive changes
  22. such a shame about the bounce, it was unique and historical. a few whinge and moan and get their way and spare me on the umps backs and "improving decision making" give us one to open every game that thump of ball into turf is pretty special and isnt going to do them any significant harm beyond what the roles and responsibilities they sign up to as umpires demands
  23. again, not a single word from anyone at the club, that is an article from afl dot com and doesn't have a single quote, i get it i see it but i want to see the club announce something
  24. nail on head, all this talk of we should be finalist, we are a finals list, we want to play finals, it sounds like they're trying to convince themselves because the truth is we aren't otherwise we would be, and its now been some time since we were and so we need to start working out how we can be again and for the XX year in a row our net outs seem to be outweighing our net ins pre draft and drafting takes time and patience, and it is a 5,6,7 year process to reach the summit so how can we best position ourselves to get there
  25. i'm still waiting for any sign of official confirmation from teh club, we havent even hinted to his signing
